Chickens on the Move!

It's time to move the laying hens out of the hoop house and winter digs in the Front Pasture to their summer spot in the Back Pasture. Unfortunately, the Back Pasture is still too wet to drive the tractor on so we will park the girls behind the house in the New Pasture for a couple of weeks. This will give them a fresh area to dig around in until we can start them on their regular rotations around the Back Pasture for the rest of the year.
We unhook the automatic door the night before so the girls are kept in the coop. Early the next morning, we race around to pick up fencing and all the necessaries for their new spot before hooking up the mobile coop to our tractor for the quick journey across the road. My favorite part of the whole process is opening the coop door in the new spot. The girls are in a BIG hurry to get out...except for those few stragglers busy in the nest boxes. Chickens are so fun to watch.
