If this team had a del piero an inzaghi a di Natale a iaquinta a Luca Toni a gilardino a Francesco Totti and even a balotelli they would win more games. Immobile needs more space to score . Italy has like 50 midfielders and one striker. (Jorginho, verrati, barella,Bove, fratessi, locatelli, pellegrini,Rovella, fagioli, pessina, miretti, tonali, cristante, gagliardini, madragora, bonaventura, castrovilli pobega etc. Even the attacking players are all wingers (orsolini, politano, chiesa, berardi raspadri etc) If Italy had 1 striker slightly better than immobile or even a striker with goals on his feet and different characteristics they would be contenders every year. Those who watched the full match..I just have one request..just rewatch the video and focus on below 2 people alone 1. Zidane (France) 2. Pirlo..(Italy) These 2 are really a class apart...Their tactical gameplay with ball is outstanding..Their playmaking skill is nothing short of a case study.. Missing this kind of football !!!

This definitely brings back into my first football memories. Watched it together with all the neighbourhood fam on a big screen, i still remember i have to make sure my eyes wide opens bcs this match was at 4am in the morning during Malaysia time, i barely watched it while being sleepy & that Zidane’s moment make me stay to watch the match till penalty kick. Later at school i proudly telling how ive witnessed the epic game bcs most of my friends are not watching it as at that time it was hard to watch for live broadcast and it is somewhat a privilege😂😂😂

2006 was my earliest WC i remember. I was 6 years old back then. The matches used to be around 10pm in our country. We used to watch those matches together. I didn't know what football was back then, but i just wanted to be a part of those family gatherings. This match literally took me back to my childhood 😧😦

I was 14 years old back then and as a Frenchy, after that game, I cried and cursed the Italians for winning dirty. But after rewatching this game for the first time tonight, I realize Italia had a slightly better organised team. It's very mild but visible. French team had a gap between midfield and attack, and Zidane could barely express himself as he used to, because the Italian defense locked him up very well. Although it was not a spectacular game to watch, it was technicaly but especially, tactically a pleasure for the eyes. This French team probably deserved to win the tournament, that's for sure. But Italia had a legendary team and they won the game you need to win in order to be crown. And this italian team surely deserved to win a trophy. I mean, look at those names, everyone is a legend in this team. France only clearly dominated beginning of second half and during after time, before the red card. That's it. I can't believe I'm gonna say that but well done Italia, you won it fair and square. My heart is now at peace. It will forever remain a French tragedy tho.

@@lalatendunayak112 If there's one World Cup where they deserved to reach the finals, it's this one. You can't kick out Spain, Brazil and Portugal by luck. It's rare for a team to have such a bracket. Also if you watch the games, especially Spain and Brazil they are beautiful. Only the penalty against Portugal could be discussed and still, it's foul anyway. France 2006 was a great team and that World Cup overall was one of the best.

French here. I’m still a staunch believer that we were superior on the paper but this match was another proof football ain’t an exact science I guess. Nonetheless, very enjoyable to get through all theses memories again even though the Zidane-Materazzi episode is still hard to swallow. Hopefully Italy strongly comes back in 2022, because it’s full of great talents

This World Cup final that just felt bigger than all the other ones before or since. Maybe it was the stadium having a track making it appear larger, or the drama with the headbutt, or the fact it went to penalties, just the stakes seemed so much higher in this one, even more than than 2022. Comparing the World Cup Final penalty shootouts, in 2022 the 'over the shoulder' camera view made it seem smaller, but the wide angle view, used in 2006 made it seem huge, and thus more important.

As a French, even with this end, this world cup is my favorite one. We had all feelings mixed up. But this is the best route we had. Beat Spain, Brasil and Portugal back to back... waw ! And then... this happened in final.. Honestly France did not deserved to win against Italy in 2000 Euro... so i think it was just the karma for us. Too much remember. A pleasure to see that again ! i come back to watch this every four years, two years after each world cup. never has a game been so well played, and so well thrown away. that said, i watch this game like i've never seen it before every time, and it is just as mindboggling every time. every minute is tense, especially knowing how it ends. i watched a documentary 'en media res' style film called 'Zidane" that really illuminated how his mind operates during a play. i still cannot fathom how he couldn't let this insult slide and get his victory holding the world cup. i just don't see any universe where the outcome here is justified. even if france had ended up losing on penalties it would have been a much better show of sportsmanship to headbutt materazzi after the whistle had already gone. but instead of that he got himself an immediate ejection. there's no way he would have thought the referee would pull a yellow or something, it's just about the most personal a personal foul can possibly be. absolutely crazy.
