Enjoying Dakar - stage 6 (the 48hr marathon)

We also watched the 48hr marathon session. Actually, the start and the next day, part of the finish. During this marathon the contestants had to stay overnight in one of 7 camp areas (the camp depended on how far they got on day #1) without any support. We learnt later that the route was very tough. Many trucks barely made it to the first camp area at the end of the first day. With the contestants away overnight, the teams in the bivouac were not busy. The Coronel team invited us to visit their set-up. We had a lovely evening! The next day, we were lucky to see the first Dutch truck and Tim & Tom Coronel make it to the finish. We said goodbye to Dakar and entered the Empty Quarter ourselves....
