Sujebi (Hand-torn noodle soup:
Sujebi is a traditional Korean noodle soup made by tearing rustic, thin noodles by hand and tossing them into a bubbling, savory broth! Full recipe: www.maangchi.com/recipe/sujebi
The noodles are so straightforward - just flour, water, salt, and oil - and the broth has such strongly Korean flavors, that it makes this soup such a classic, uncomplicated favorite. Koreans make sujebi on rainy days to keep themselves warm and cozy, and many of us have memories of helping tear the noodles ourselves. (I know I do!)

Maangchi, I’ll be making this dish for my 95 year old grandmother soon as we both enjoy watching many of your videos. We thoroughly enjoyed the scallion pancakes you made earlier in the year. Thank you for providing her with a wonderful recipe and a relaxing show to watch. From my grandmother Joy and myself we appreciate the content whole heartedly ❤️
Great! I hope she likes your sujebi!
Hopefully, she likes most of what I make her, and this one is extra special as it’s her birthday meal for turning 95, any suggestions to make the meal even better?
My grandmother thought it was great, I did add a bit of soy sauce to it to give it a bit more savory salty taste, we both agreed, while the soup and broth was great, it left us craving a protein of some type, if someone decides to make this, add some diced chicken or thin sliced beef if you want it to have added protein otherwise fantastic soup.
i love how maangchi enjoys her food by slowly taking her time to try every part of the dish before letting us know how good it is. she really is so genuine and a comforting person to watch!
I cooked this with my kids .. they called it play dough soup. I love anchovies stock too, also i put in minced pork , and crispy shallots on top.. my mom used to cook for us on weekends too. I carry on her tradition.
How cute! "Play dough soup" 😉
Oh how I miss my grandma who used to make this soup for the whole family on a cold day. She also used anchovy & kelp stock/broth. I can almost hear her voice ringing in my ears, calling my name to come & have dinner. What a shame her great cooking skills were not passed on.
Maangchi ages like wine, she only gets better ❤
Today is the last warm autumn day in my country. So tomorrow I will prepare soup for my family, according to your recipe. It's very yummy and tasty dish to warm up our bodies and prevent a cold! Thank you Maangchi, greetings from Serbia 🌹❤
I saw the first sentence and wondered if you're close by, same here in Austria, can't wait to make it on a cold autumn day 😁
@@c.w.8200 Hi Austria 👋🏻☀️
Dear Maagnchi I follow you since 2009 and I saw that video you are taking about. Needless to say I cooked it as my first corean home made. After all these years I keep watching your videos, always to see what are you showing new and also to cook for my self. My heart melts everytime I cook something I learned from you and now my wife loves it to. Thank you for so many years of good food 🫶
Thank you for your kind message! I'm touched to hear that the dishes you've learned from my videos have become a source of joy for you and that your wife loves them too. Cooking can be a great way to bond with loved ones, and I'm happy to have been a part of that for you. Thank you for your ongoing support, and I hope you continue to enjoy many more delicious meals with your family.

This makes me think of making US southern style dumplings with my grandma, with tearing the dumplings. This looks delicious!
You looked so pretty Maangchi ☺️
I usually watch your channel before I went to sleep and imagine that you are my mom , every time I hear your voice your tips to teach us to cook just feel comfortable. * Do a videos are great for me. But the greatest part of all video is that you show your mother side that's sometimes I looking for ... I love you Maangchi ❤
I regularly watch your recepies... Love from India
Maangchi, where have you been? I've missed you and the conversations you have with your food. Glad you are back!
Welcome back!
I was following your channel back when you released the original sujebi video with the two versions And I still have the dough recipe on The side of my refrigerator. I’ve used that recipe several times to make sujebi which always comes out very delicious. Sometimes I have used anchovy dashida.
I made this- it was delicious- Korean soul food is a perfect description as it reminded me of chicken and dumplings made with noodles. I later made the radish kimchi- I added a few jalapeños I had grown and didn’t want to waste. They were pretty mild so didn’t really add extra heat. It is so good! I’ve made the radish kimchi a few times now, more confident to stray a bit from Maangchi’s recipe to try different things. Thank you for your wonderful recipes!
Maangchi had an old version of this recipe...I actually made it two years ago...in a rainy day!!😅
Your so cute I'm happy every time a watch you and enjoy the recipes
I agreed! 😊
I have a cold right now and I feel like a bowl of this soup would cure me 😂 when I feel well enough to cook I'll have to try!
You look extra beautiful today, Maangchi!✨ Thanks for the mild, food processor version recipe🥰
I agree. And I was thinking the same. She has gotten more pretty as she has aged.
When I was a kid, my mom & I used make sujaebi together on cold winter months. I helped her knead the sujaebi banjook. Watching this video takes me back to those wonderful memories! If you have kids, definitely make this dish together!
Thanks for sharing!
💕
Cute apron, Maangchi!
Looks delicious and healthy, I will try one day , thanks Maangchi .
I had an incredible bowl of sujebi in Seomun Market in Daegu. It was my best meal in Korea. A $4 bowl of sujebi. Incredible flavors.
Be happy. Taste your foods we know how good you are kkkk. We love seaweed pickles and ginger too. Korean food once/week😊😊 follow you til the end😊😊😊 Great work for house wife and husband.
I’m going to save making this for a time I know I can just snuggle up and go to sleep straight after eating!
Right!! Soul food in a rainy day.
: )
This is such a comfort meal I can nearly smell it through the screen!
This was one of my favorite childhood dishes! Thank you for sharing how to make this :D

In India, we make vegetables based curry with mix vegetables and Indian spices and chickpeas for protein. The dough is whole wheat flour with added spices. Then it is rolled and cut in pieces and added to curry broth at the end. It's called chikolya. The concept is same but it's vegetarian.Dough pieces in in soup type broth.vegetables, chickpeas, dough pieces all cooked together. One pot meal.
Hello from Greece. I love Korea and Korean foods thank you very much for your recipes. Ero.
wowwwwww 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 it's looks delicious 😋🤤🤤🤤 thanks for sharing 😍🙏

Looks so fun to make. Can’t wait to try!
Thank you Maangchi. I always want to try it ever since I saw SeChan made it in RM. Now that I know how to made it, it become my tomorrow menu for lunch. Salute!
Looks delicious as always! Can’t wait to try the recipe! I’ll be making a batch of your famous kimchi this afternoon!
I want to try this way now. My parents would make this together but their version was different. Theirs turned out more like gnocchi. I think it why I love gnocchi so much.
I love the big smile on your face when you say Sesame Oil
Oh man…I need to make this. Looks like some serious comfort food. Perfect for the cooler weather we have coming. ❤️
Thank you! Love hand torn noodles and I've always wondered what to do with my leftover kelp!
Yay! Your sujebi video was one of the first videos of you I ever watched! Been watching you ever since! Love your recipes 🥰
Wow Maangchi, you look so good today 🥰
Oh I am making this this week with chicken broth. Yum!
This looks so delicious! I'm gonna make this soon due to how cold it's been lately. Thank you for the recipe!
mmmm! that looks soooo delicious! And easy. I'm DEF gonna make it. Especially cause I love celebrating the beginning of soup weather.
Delightful! Reminds me of chicken and dumplings with the noodle style dumpling, but perhaps a bit more delicate.
Thank you for keeping your instructions so clear and simple. This oils good!🕊
This looks so fun to make, I will have to try it soon! Thank you for sharing your wonderful videos and recipes 🤩🥰
Ah man, it's going to be around 90 degrees F all week where I am. I'm saving this for next month 😋
So I looked at some of her oldest videos and she still keeps the same thumbnail style for 16 years! Wow.
Simple home cooked recipes are my favorite! I love these because they help me understand how to come up with simple recipes for ingredients that I wouldn't know what to do with otherwise. I'll try the seaweed dish next time instead of throwing it away!
Looks delicious, good hearty soup for those cool days in fall to the days of winter.
Looks delicious! I love the variation in the noodes so that there is variety in texture❤
I just made this tonight! Thanks Maangchi! You are the best!
Anchovy Stock is so good... Thanks for convincing me to finally make it ...😊
I am Korean. I am studying English these days. I want to make a friend who speak English. Sujebi is my soul food. I am not good at English. But I can Korean and I can cook Sujebi. I enjoy eating Sujebi in rainy day. Thank you~
The soup must have tasted sweet, because of kelp and anchovies. 'One- bowl-fix-all' kind of meal and it's easy to prepare and delicious too! Thanks for letting us know that the kelp can still be used again! Thanks Maangchi!😄😋
I love your videos Maangchi! 💕💕💕. Always a pleasure to see your amazing cooking!
I also very much enjoy seeing you enjoy your food…it always makes me hungry. 😊😅😄
Wow! This is a perfect anytime meal. Thanks Maangchi ❤
Thank-you, I watched carefully how you cut up the vegetables...looks so good!
Maangchi, you are an angel, thank you for all your recipes ❤
So easy and looks so delicious. Can’t wait to try it!
Love it!! Thank you
This looks so good and she looks sooo pretty
Thank so much , delicious as always 🎉
I enjoy your videos very much. I got two of your cookbooks and made my own radish kimchi from one of them. So delicious. I wisely try the noodles soon.
I love to see her cook
This reminds me of a cozy lunch I had at a woman’s home in 금천구 in 서울. She made us this soup and told us about its history. It’s a very nice soup. Now I’ve got to try!
This soup looks fantastic
Thank you Maangchi! Every recipe I’ve followed has been so delicious!❤ could you do pamuchim green onion salad recipe one day please 😊
it's a heartwarming noodle dish as well as your video
This is indeed soul food. Your videos are so wholesome. Thanks for telling me about the video as I only checked the shorts. Will have to check your website too. I did a veggie version before very similar to your recipe. But the recipe I had, they used also cooked potatoes for the noodles. Next time I try your recipe
I'm always amazed at the knife skills
Happy Fall season to you & your family. Thank you for coordinating this comforting recipe, it is really needed as I’m trying to stay healthy and coordinate all my vaccines. Out West in San Diego, our entire office came down with COVID about 2 weeks ago and it was startling, just trying to stay protective,
Your persimmons look so pretty on the windowsill! I hope they ripen soon!
😘😘😘 Great recipe for tomorrow's lunch! Thank you , always!
Yummm can't wait to make this!!!
That looks so nice.
수제비 is my soul food. I love it. I've once tried before, but it was really tough to make the dough, 😅 because I didn't use a blender. I did it with my bare hands. Although the making process was really tough, I ended up enjoying 수제비. 😋
