Thinking of buying Control? If you're using the Epic store you can use the creator code STUPENDIUM to support me!
Control by Remedy & 505 Games sees you take on the role of Jesse Faden as you investigate the mysteries of The Oldest House and the ominous, clandestine Federal Bureau of Control. It is exactly the type of weird, unsettling twist on reality I love woven with that veneer of sinister bureaucracy I find it so fun to make music about.
Control has been one of my absolute favourite games from the past few years and I just knew I had to make a video about it. This has been a huge project for me. I've tried lots of new things; sets, advanced lighting, even some wire-work and it is all thanks to my amazing Patrons, without whom projects like this just wouldn't be possible.
So a huge thank you to all of my supporters out there, as well as all the fantastic people who came together on set and behind the scenes to help me make this video a reality! Especially Cami-Cat for her hauntingly wonderful vocals!

LYRICS: At the edge of understanding, the border of the known The breaking point of reason, where logic is dethroned Where sense is defenceless and festers on the bone You'll find entropy's offensive is rendered in the stone As you roam through the oldest house Home to all you weren't told about Trapped within a labyrinth it goes without Saying that we're praying that they don't get out Prison for the isn't sitting hinged within a schism Of half reflected architecture, dark unending prisms Part objective, part conjecture partnered with tradition Where the paperwork is worshipped and the rituals are written When the black rock cracks and the firebreak ends The Director is left as the line of defence When the trenches have fallen to forces unknown Perhaps you should answer the phone If you can't place the pin Where patterns end and you begin Follow the Director Else you're gonna slide into the void But if the world you knew Has cracked and fallen through Go to the projector Load another slide into the void There's the strangest correlation observation will present In the systems we can witness and the signals they have sent The forces yet unknowable that ripple through cement Inscrutable intrusions. Altered World Events. Where reality cracks and impacts on the next And dimensions fragment as the astral projects On benign, undefined archetypal objects Until Ordinary's torn up and normal defects In effect, what you're left with are OoPs Objects of power, a flying TV A light that can hijack your mind as you see A safe that's encased in a shield of debris These frequencies are frequently the key to what's perceived to be And vis-à-vis are feeding off the reaches of the mind But recently the sequence has repeated and repeated And it leaves me with the theory that they're trying to get inside You hear our words but you forget Push your fingers through the surface to the wet We wait in the stains. We build you 'til nothing remains. In the name of the sound of the name. (How do you say “insane”?) Repeat the word. Repeat the word. Repeat the word. Egg cracks and the truth will emerge A copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy You are home. You remind us. Happy. Hurt. If you can't place the pin Where patterns end and you begin Follow the Director Else you're gonna slide into the void But should your world collapse And fall right off the maps Go to the projector Load another slide into the voi The Director is the Bureau's one connection to the Board Obey the mighty Bakelite and file your reports Telephony in effigy must never be ignored So if you hear a ringing you had better pull the cord And explore the decor of the OceanView Where the doors only open for a chosen few Check your logic at the desk, you won't need it to progress A dream is just a test to be broken through Like the smoke entombed in the rooms of the ashtray Furniture fractals, the carpet cascades Lost in a labyrinth of lounge chairs and lampshades Wallpaper warps into infinite pathways There's no limit to the dangers of phenomenon we keep Or the chaos that would reign should the panopticon be breached This never ending edifice is perched upon the precipice Since we let in the resonance the future's under siege If you can't place the pin Where patterns end and you begin Follow the Director Else you're gonna slide into the void But if you see the seams Where motels meld with dreams Go to the projector Load another slide into the void I've analysed the data, I've catalogued the signs Run every simulation, every sample I can find I would give an explanation but we haven't got the time We're drowning in the waveforms and our minds are in the tide Of elegant malevolence sequestered in the resonance Nesting in the head of every denizen Tell me, is it heaven-sent? Is the devil even relevant? When questioning the presence of dimensional intelligence Thresholds unfold as a door that knocks In the ticking, in the ticking, in the ticking of the clocks We are holding the key we just don't see the locks Paradise and parasite in parallel, in paradox We stand on a mantle where matter divides To abstractive fractures that tangle and writhe Through cracks in reality trapped in a slide Such intangible sanctuary Hedron provides (You are a worm through time You've always been the new you The hole in your room is a hole in you The picture is you, holding the picture) Breaking the first the second, the third, the fourth wall Fifth wall, no floor, you fall Earworm humming in a dream Baby, baby, baby yeah. Just plastic. You want to listen. You want to dream. You want to smile. You want to hurt. You don’t want to be. You want to listen. You want to dream. You want to smile. You want to hurt. You don’t want to be. If you can't place the pin Where patterns end and you begin Follow the Director Else you're gonna slide into the void But should your towers fall Free your mind and heed the call Go to the projector Load another slide into the void

@@girlpower1925 woman☕️
That's basically what the Tennyson Report is complaining about.
Its actually more than that. Paperwork is worshipped can be interpreted as to reflect just how bureaucratic the FBC is. Every AWE, OOP or Altered Item meticulously categorized and analyzed. Its also a reflection of modern devices not being allowed in the oldest house, thus the use of analog technology. Paper still reigns supreme in the oldest house, when the world has already moved digital. Which brings me to the Rituals are written - the FBC quite literally pushes the idea of avoiding modern tech. You can see it plastered over the walls of the oldest house like some sort of propaganda poster.
Rabbit hole for ya. The rituals are the only constant which is why the paperwork is worshipped because it holds the only anchor holding it together.
It's so obvious this was written by someone who has not only played the shit out of Control, but really thought very deeply about its themes and implications. The decision to use bits of the Hiss chant in the rap was a particularly canny one, as the chant was not only already pretty close to rhyming and pleasing to say (as Dylan himself points out), but already seemed to be referring to events in-universe.

Your character, before the start of the game, along with her brother, found an OoP in the shape of a projector. That projector also could open other dimenisons, where some nasty shit exits and the protagonist and her brother come across a malevolent entety that helps the clean up their mess, before FBC discovers the projector, taking it and the protagonists brother. Im pretty sure that control was inspired by scp so i bet thats why
I haven't played Control so I don't know if the line "You'll find entropy's offensive is rendered in the stone" references something in the game (knowing Stupendium, it almost certainly does!), but after a year of listening to this song, I just realized something: in the late 1800s, physicist Ludwig Boltzmann proposed a formula for entropy, S=klogW, that was so fundamental that it went on to be engraved on his tombstone in Vienna. That is to say, entropy is *literally* rendered in stone. Such perfection throughout the whole song that the little things shine like this!
You're right, it does reference something in the game. The substance known as Black Rock is mined by the Federal Bureau of Control for its abilities to dampen paranormal phenomenon, so the Bureau's offensive capabilities against the anomalies they deal with is literally rendered in the stone, the black rock.

Practically every third line of this song suddenly has a double meaning upon finishing the actual game. The lines about the Trenches falling, resonance, and Hedron all make sense in multiple ways.
"Paradise and parasite in parallel, in paradox" is pretty cool too. Like Polaris being within Jesse, and the Hiss in others. With both sides, there are unknown motives all around.
@@whuspr Since Jesse and Dylan seems to be the same person according to one of the board's transmission, this line is even stronger. @@maccat38 It does not necessarily have to be from exactly a specific time period. Instead, there seems to be a distinction between "the new" and "the old". Sure, the gun can be a much newer design, but it mostly functions on the exact same principle. The idea being that technology which is too modern can be straight up alien for the Oldest House. The way you need to look at it is that the Oldest House was not "built" specifically for humans. From it's perspective the FBC are just some of many visitors. To some other beings, modern technology which we consider normal, especially the likes of modern semiconductors, can seem just as absurd as altered items seem to us.
I think the limit is the 80s, and a lot of firearm designs really don’t change much over time.
You know what, I finally can put words to something I've been struggling with. Stupes so fully embraces the characters that, especially during the scientist's verses, the rapping is almost incidental. I'm blown away by a vast myriad of things. The song, was incredible, but I don't see enough love or appreciation for your American accent, as the scientist. Maintaining an accent is hard enough, add to the fact that you are rapping, with a well articulated extensive vernacular. Genuinely impressed on many fronts. Thanks for the hard work.
I've listened to this song a bunch of times, despite never having heard of the game before (of course, the same could be said of most of his songs, as I haven't been playing many new games for a long time), and I'm also impressed by a lot of things about it. I also noticed the American accent was very good. One little piece of constructive criticism on it though: Ordinary, and Santuary. In both of these words, the Brits tend to pronounce almost ommiting the "a" sound entirely, but Americans put a lot more emphasis on the "a": Ordinary: BE: Ordinery or Ordin-ry AE: Or-din-airy Sanctuary: BE: Sank-chewery AE: Sank-chew-airy His American accent was really good, and you have to be a bit of a linguistic snob to even catch those (and I'm an American linguistic snob at that), but I figured the Stupendium will probably end up using an American accent again sometime in the future, so I figured it might be helpful. Very amazing song and video though. I had never heard of this game before, and now I want to go buy a TV, console, and game in order to play it!
Agreed! Stupes is a legend.
I am now crying at just over a minute. It's so good. AoD tier. Haunting beauty. I am so honored to know you.
Me too
This song got me to buy the game. After playing it, I don't know if I could have more appreciation for a songs lyrics than this one. The way they used so many things from the game and made it sound like a coherent song. The little snip-its from quotes said in the game, lore behind Oceanview hotel, even the Hedron device Dr. Darling made. Speaking about Dr. Darling, the background set they made is absolutely perfect, from the first recording you see of him in the game. It almost looks exactly like the actor, well done The Stupendium on the outfit design
Drat, someone beat me to the Darling look alike bit....
Looking at it, those are the actors you see in the game itself. I think he might have edited out Dr. Darling to have a greenscreen set, which is... honestly just as impressive. Wow.
YES THIS RIGHT HERE, WE JUST GOT FINISHED WITH THE GAME AND I SWEAR THIS SOLD THE IT
Not to mention the set design. Idk if he went to remedy studios to film in the actual set or if he built his own cause holy shit.
Like I can understand printing out the papers on the wall. They don't match exactly. But where did he get the exact phone and lamps from the game.
It’s bring your kid to work day but you work at the FBC: “No Timmy, you can’t touch that.Or that.Or anything else in this room.”
"The trenches have fallen for reasons unknown" That right there is the most camouflaged spoiler for the entire game I've ever seen.
its actually the first thing that you see in the building.
Ah but you see. Trench allowed the Hiss to enter because he was the first casualty in the Hiss invasion. That's the genius of "reasons unknown". You know why he's dead. You know you've replaced him. But you don't know why Trench fell.
It was a true honour to work on this with you! I hope we work again on another project soon!
Thank you for your help, man! It was much appreciated. :)

Welcome to the Hiss
Agreed
Same, there's just something about his songs that seem to get better each time you listen to them.
AHHHHH, So true
"In the ticking, In the ticking, In the ticking of the clocks" This line gives such going crazy feeling
gives me Alice in Wonderland vibes
And the way he delivers that entire verse shows that the experience of this experiment has caused the scientist to lose control of his own mind. So freaking good!
"These frequencies are frequently the key to what's perceived to be." my god... This line!
There are several things I love about this song. I really like the fact the chorus includes lot of the Hiss' chant. I really like how you can actually get both the Doctor and the Director properly down even to their body language and of course the visuals are amazing especially the cascading segments of the Ashtray. My only gripe is this song doesn't have more views.
Th fact that we get videos of this quality roughly once a month is a blessing
"Prison for the isn't sitting hinged within a schism / of half reflected architecture, dark unending prisms; / Part objective, part conjecture partnered with tradition / where the paperwork is worshipped and the rituals are written." Those lyrics are so sweet Also, as someone who works for a government department, that could be the motto for my office.

”We are holding the key, we just don’t see the locks”. I’ve seen nothing about this game, but I love the scientist character. You make such a lovely impersonation of a stuttering, nervous person who holds all information, but has no time to tell. Speaking of characters, all the costumes and props you make look amazing. Your rapping never stops to improve, same with the video editing an d effects. Loved Cami-cats appearance in this catchy chorus, your lyrical genius knows no bounds. 🤘

Just coincidence...Right?

So i just discovered this per pure coincidence, and while this isn't exactly my favorite style of music (not that i dislike it, either), this might very well be one of the most endearing videos ive ever seen on KZhead. Yes there are fanmade music videos of video games out there, yes some of them may also have real life actors/cosplayers in it, but very few of them capture the vibe of the game so well. From Dr. Darlings Mannerisms to the perfect recreation of those Director tapes, everything about this is heartwarmingly genuine. As others have said, making the hiss chant part of the lyrics is an especially neat touch. Well done!
Thank you so much! I absolutely LOVE control and wanted to to it the best justice I could!

@@user-lt5ck2ne4d As often in this song (and in the game, really), both are true. While Ordinary is a location where an A.W.E. happened, the whole concept of an Altered Wold Event is that supernatural events happen, usually through an banal object such as a floppy disk, a slide projector or a phone, and the mundane capacities of the object are utterly broken so it is not ordinary any more (A red phone becomes a way to contact other dimensions, a legendary weapon now shifts shape to be what the user is best accustomed to, an ash tray with a labyrinth pattern can create mazes, ...)
I already mentioned in the discord, but this song is singlehandedly the reason I bought and played Control. And I LOVED it. Very quickly it's become my favorite game, and it's all thanks to this wonderful creation of yours. Having gotten now to listen with both no knowledge of the game, and again after having finished the main story, every double meaning and reference is just that much cooler.
