Dancing Mad (FF6) on the Spreckels Pipe Organ (Poor Audio Quality)

In San Diego's Balboa Park, there's a giant pipe organ at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion. Every Sunday, the Spreckels Organ Society (sosorgan.com/) holds free outdoor organ concerts. The guest organist on September 18, 2011 was Dr. Alison Luedecke, who happened, as she told us, to have performed as part of the Final Fantasy: Distant Worlds concert in Los Angeles the previous weekend.
The last piece she played that afternoon, to an audience of mostly 60- to 70-year-olds and families with small children, sandwiched between Bach's Prelude in C Major and the Star-Spangled Banner, was Dancing Mad.
The recording quality is bad (as you might imagine from an iPhone and an outdoor pipe organ), but it was such a surprising and magnificent experience that I had to share it anyway.

  • You know what I love the most about this? That the person playing isn't even familiar with Final Fantasy, or gaming, or is anything other than a musician. The fact that this song is finally being recognized for the glorious piece that it is, on its own, by non FFVI or even FF fans, is wonderful.

  • God damn, I go there all the time, and never see it used. Then as soon as I go on vacation (the dates match up) this happens!
