In terms of remakes and “definitive editions”, Demon’s Souls is a very high quality benchmark that other companies should look to when tackling their own remakes/remasters/definitive editions.
Oh, they know, but the issue is that Publishers are typically the ones commissioning remakes/"definitive editions". Not devs. Therefore, money is their ONLY concern, and they want to spend as little as possible. They know that bad reviews don't stop them from making cash.
other companies should just be concerned about making new and compelling IPs. We are arguably saturated with remakes and remasters with no new experiences. It's nostalgia bait at this point. Good to hear that Bluepoint seemingly made a quality remake.
Theres so many games to choose from, if you dont like the remakes, play something else. I love the nostalgia of playing old games with modern graphics.
In my opinion, while Demon's Souls is in all technicality a Remake, it looks to play too similarly to the original game, enough that it can qualify to be called a high quality 'Remaster', similar to Nier: Replicant ver.1.22474487139 which recreated the game on a completely new engine, but was otherwise mostly the same game. A more poignant example of a remake to me would be the Final Fantasy VII Remake, which completely revamps the original game and adds in its own touches and additions to make it a distinct entity from the old game, both gameplay and story-wise.
I would hold the distinction of a "visual remake" here since it doesn't use the assets of the original. A remaster should be that most everything from the original game is there just polished up. Remakes as a term should kick in when significant portion of the existing assets are taken out and changed. I always use the analogy of the music industry. A remastered album is where someone take the originally recorded tracks and adjusts the leveling of the master track to change how it sounds. A re-recorded album is new recordings on the tracks. Same should go for game remasters and remakes. Otherwise the distinction is too nebulous. I would call FFVII a "full remake" in that it completely remade all assets including the gameplay mechanics and systems. Demon's Souls is just a "visual remake".

@@tralphstreet See friend, if you were paying attention and *reading* the comment, this was a long time ago. There was a huge leap regarding "detail" in videogames in the mid-late 2010s. Only problem with the original is that you dont make any sounds when in soulsform. The consistent foggyness in the remake is so comforting and beautiful. Easily my favorite graphics in a game.
For it to have had gameplay changes it would have needed From Software to have worked on it themselves. This was a commissioned direct remake of the game for current gen and that was executed flawlessly. As someone who didn’t play through the entirety of the original (didn’t get past Boletaria Palace) the remake was a fantastic experience. It was also my first Souls title and I feel that’s where it shines best. There are some improvements made with later titles that may diminish the experience of this one. As a first Souls game it is incredible.
I'm glad they didn't change anything for this EXTREMELY important reason: they're not From Software. Better playing it safe than messing it up epicly.
Yeah, without Fromsoft involvement, i wasn't holding my breath for new gameplay content in the remake.
Yeah, bluepoint have great tech leads but I don't think they ever designed their own game or have the know how to do so. They were wise in playing it safe, and it was probably what was asked of them
Yeah that’s what I was thinking. Definitely would have been great if they did it well, but absolutely awful if they screwed it up.It’s a huge amount of responsibility and maybe not worth the risk if they’ve never done a souls like before.
The original ds isn't perfect. At least I hope they can make dragon god, leemonger, dirty collosus better. If not, they should not sell 70$ for 1 new coat of paint
@@bluebaby30 Looking at this vid Id totally agree with you. @@ObsidianMiner32 You not caring matters because?
After Dark Souls 3 and 1, I tried the original Demon's Souls and afterwards I instantly knew it was my favorite amongst the entire series. Something about it just hit all the right spots in terms of difficulty, level design, characterization, and world building. It also has a strange primitive feeling to it which hearkens to my old dungeon crawler feels back in the 1980s-90s. Course, that's not without flaws, my only major gripe was some boss patterns were a little weird due to their hitbox size If you rolled. If I ever get a PS5, this is probably the only game I would get. But that is for another day.
DS remastered and DS3 fire fades are awesome games . I have never played Demon Souls but the youtube videos all look good .
There is one gameplay difference that does actually have some significance: 8 directional rolling while locked on. In the original you had to unlock in order to roll diagonally.
Fuck yes that's an improvement
What does that mean?
in the original u can only roll forward ,back, left or right but now u can roll in any direction
People are salt its the same, and if it were different even more people would be mad. Idk why people be so dumb about it.
Speaking of gameplay differences, am I alone in thinking that the riposte animations are too long? Everyone seem excited about them while I can only think how tedious they will become the 100th time you will perform them.
Feel like this is lose lose for bluepoint, if you improve the game, people will be angry about it not being faithful to the original, if they keep it the same, then people are annoyed that improvements werent made. Hard situation to be in
@Danny Keep it in the middle and you piss both those people off.
With the popularity of the Souls series after DS1, it makes all the sense in the world to remaster DeS. "Souls-Like" is literally a genre now. There's even a Steam tag for it. Considering how many fans of the series never got a chance to play DeS I think BluePoint did everything right. They didn't turn DeS into Dark Souls 4. It's DeS through and through. I'm very excited to play it.
I honestly think they should go with the differences. The idiots who play a *remake* of a game and get mad when it's different than the original can be left behind to play the original. The game industry can't be stagnated because people can't take off their nostalgia glasses.
@@BdaB164 just about anything can get a steam tag these days.
Honestly anything they could have done would also have been met with backlash. I'm assuming he was talking about dragon god in the video so if they did change that into a a actual fight there would still be people pissed that its changed. There's people who want 1:1 remake and there is people who wants actual improvements but you can't please both. Imo I'm blown away by what they accomplished here the game is stunning.
The original PS3 version on the first level has this eerie wind noise and creepy crows squawking constantly with the clink of your Armour rattling, thinking it was someone chasing you . The remake said F that, lets get rid of all the subtle ambient noises that gave it a creepy feeling.

Yes it 1000% is, I've never played the original and I loved every second of the remake, need to go back and platinum it for sure but i loved the uphill journey
The only 2 things I hate about the remake were some of the bosses's themes that got totally changed (WHY?!? and they were the best, too... both Flamelurker and Maiden Astraea...), and the limit to the grass that you can bring on yourself. In the original game, at really high game cycles (NG+ and over), I used to stop caring about anything below full moon grass and also about all 3 lotuses, since I used full/new/dark moon grass in my playthroughs. Now in the remake, I can't really do that anymore, since you can't have a max of 99 grass of each kind with yourself anymore (not that I remember ever having 99 dark ones at once), that means a way more chock-full filled inventory (since now even in NG+ and beyond I'm forced to use those low-level grass and the lotuses), meaning way more time spent looking at useless stuff when I go through my inventory, and actually way more travelling to Thomas than before, because I way much often end up with 0 useful grass than before, way, way faster, especially with pure black world tendencies. I can't stress enough how much all of this bothers me, but I repeat, it's only in later game cycles, NG+ and beyond, so I know pretty well that a good 90% of players don't really care about this stuff, but what about the remaning 10% of us hardcore players? Why add all those good QoL and then give us this HUGE downgrade of QoL? Edit: I also didn't really like the new versions of the fat officials, the fool's idol, and the maiden in black herself. But they were still minor things to me, compared to the inventory change, since these ones didn't impact my gameplay in any way.
If you could use 99 of each grass the game would be easy because you can heal all the damage away in mere press of the button. Limiting the amount of grass encourages the player to be more careful and aware of their surroundings. If the estrus flask in Dark Souls could be used an infinite number of times then the game would be extremely easy because any damage taken would be made meaningless because the unlimited use of flask. This critic of the limited health item just seems to be a nostalgia and skill issue that will be used to try and glorify the OG Demon Souls and downplay the remake, seriously the remake is just Demon Souls with RTX on and maybe some creative liberties that either improve the gameplay (limited healing items), or ruin the atmosphere (fools idol looking like a dollar store Hindu god), and that’s all.
@@SMarie-zk9oj Well, that's the thing. For me it's not just "some" creative liberties, it's "A LOT". Also, it's not "improve the gameplay", it's ruining my NG+ (and beyond) gameplay, as I already explained above.

Sekiro is my favourite from game! I just love the blistering fast super presise combat! It's like a souls game on speed 😄
This was my first souls game. As in the remake. Now I’ve gone on to beat it, Sekiro, Dark Souls 1, and lost my save data at the very end of the game (like I could’ve gone to fight the final boss but I wanted to do the optional stuff and go through the dlc too) for Bloodborne. This happened fairly recently, and I’ve tried many methods but I don’t think there’s a way I can get it back. I just booted up the game a week ago and it said it couldn’t find my save data. But in that time Bloodborne became my favorite game of all time, so being able to play it all over again won’t be too bad
As someone who has been a fan of the series since demon souls way back, bloodborne is also my favorite. and good choice for wanting to do the old hunters DLC, it's, in my opinion, the best DLC that From has put out. Hope you enjoyed.
@@reyalskrad1 i'm in the minority that rather play Dark Souls or Demon's Souls over Bloodborne. Of course Bloodborne is also a great game but it's faster more aggressive play style and lack of variety compared to souls makes Souls the clear winner to me. FromSoftware games have become more and more action focused and less enjoyable to me.
It's possible you can re download the save file from the online storage, give it a look. You can also use this to save scum by uploading and downloading the save file to get multiple endings in 1 run. It might not be there for you though depending on your settings Maybe you already replayed since then
If you're interested in a similar but slightly different flavored soulsy game I suggest Nioh/Nioh 2. They're a great deal of fun, if a bit more gamey and easy to break. It's not a giant interconnected world, but instead it's got amusing historical fiction subplots kind of like 'National Treasure' or 'Abraham Lincoln Zombie Hunter' turned japanese. Where Japanese historical figures like Oda Nobunaga become spirit-energy empowered boss characters to help/hinder the protagonist on his journey and historical battles become fronts for power struggles between demons etc etc. The tone takes itself seriously, but the gameplay/plot doesn't... if that makes sense. I found it a pretty refreshing twist after having played and enjoyed a bunch of soulsy stuff.
Yeah I first played through Demon Soul's during the summer of 2010 and I also have to say Bloodborne is my favorite soulsborne game. Its the only one where I loved it so much I went for the platinum. WIth that said though, I do dig all of them a lot. I also love the Nioh games.
I think they went with the ‘’It’s not broken don’t fix it’’ Approach
Actually Bluepoint Games reverse engineers every project as a way to avoid incomplete code or beta versions to ensure people play an improved version of what they already experienced they do not add or remove content that was not in the original
I actually wish that some companies went with that mentality like Capcom with their Resident Evil 2 remake and Resident Evil 3 and even 4
The game looks amazing. I’ve tried it few months ago, but i had others to play so i put it on pause. As soon i’ll finish my 3 dark souls games, i’ll get to this one for sure.

I remember the first time I played Demon Souls. Didn’t even know the game existed until a Doctor who at the time was looking at my broken foot told me about it. Never did get the chance to tell him thank you. From Demon Souls all the way to Dark Souls 3 and that little thing of BloodBorn. Man what a ride it’s been.
That's pretty in line with how it went for me...I got diagnosed with H1N1 and had to go home from work. While leaving the hospital, I went into the little shop just before the exit as they sold drinks and such and grabbed some Gatorade and just some snacks for my soon to be suckfest whilst wearing my mask and hating life at that moment because of how I felt. I happened to look at the movies and games they had (a very small section) and saw this cool looking knight slumped on the cover of this game I had never heard of that Atlus published. I said eff it, and bought it and just like you...I have been hooked on each iteration. Damn it if I did not get wrecked for a while when I first played DS...but once you start to get the hang of this game it becomes an obsession to dominate the next boss or invader until you become that guy. Great game, can't wait to play it again.. if I ever find a dang PS5 that isn't marked up all to hell.

Now that's a cool doctor, not only medical service but a solid game recommendation too. I remember being shown it by a friend that had a PS3 and playing a bit, then later I saw Dark Souls come out on xbox 360, thought it looked cool then as I played it, I started to get similar feelings to the game I was shown a while back, so I looked it up and there I saw "Demon's souls" made by the same company and it all clicked. I later got to play through Demon's souls after my brother got a PS3. Honestly a great series.
Doctor Who introduced you to Demons Souls!?! Wow, I missed that episode
when my uncle was visiting me he gave me bloodborne (5 yrs ago) but i only played it for like 10 mins cuz i didnt know what to do and all of that. then when i got a ps5 i gave this game a try and i enjoyed it a lot, so much that i platinumed it. this game really got me into souls games. i came back to bloodborne and platinumed that also. i also bought elden ring and completed it like 5 times. im really thankful for giving this game a try cuz it introduced me to a new genre and i also found my new favorite dev team
So far my only souls games played have been Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Elden Ring, all of which I’ve loved. Now that I’ve done 1 and a half full play throughs of elden ring, I’m eventually gonna get this so I can go back and experience the game that started it all

If you loved the legacy dungeons in Elden Ring, you definitely won’t be disappointed with the rest of the series. There might not be a jump button, but the way From designs its amazing levels hasn’t really changed much since Demon’s Souls - although I can’t speak for Dark Souls 2 as it is the one I haven’t played and my understanding is that it had the shortest development time & a different internal team so the level design in that one wasn’t *quite* up to the other games.

yes, bluepoints aim is to faithfully recreate the game as it were in much higher detail, with very minor changes, (those changes being QoL updates) in SotC, the new thing they added was the 79 steps to enlightenment, 79 coins scattered throughout the land to unlock dormins blade that was the only new content in SotC
Pretty outstanding they made the exact same game in an entirely different engine, and without any of FromSoftware's designers to help with anything. That must have taken some serious effort to do.
