Set up your Sony Alpha 7R IV from my free Camera Settings file. Just copy my settings to your memory card and Load onto your camera.

In response to your request for feedback, as the settings for dial position 1,2,3 are no longer needed once loaded I set up my M1 to M3 settings as per your earlier video i.e. M1 landscape on a tripod M2 for sunny 16 and M3 for video as per your earlier video

@@rianeli Assume you have followed Marks steps in this video. You need to set up the camera for each one of the one modes e.g. landscape on tripod as per marks video and after you have done that you save those settings to M1 which overwrites marks portrait settings, then repeat for whatever settings you prefer to each of the M2 to M4 positions. When completed suggest you then save your settings to your computer for security.

It used to be important to turn SteadyShot OFF - especially when using longer telephoto lenses with OSS inside the lens and longer exposures. Sony must have improved SteadyShot in recent years as there does not appear to be much difference now when using Sony native E-Mount lenses.

Thank you for the settings. The settings work brilliantly when using just the shutter release button for focus and shutter release. However I noticed when using the back focus button (on 1, 2 & 3 mode) that the aperture opens all the way while focusing and in order to get the proper aperture setting I need to let go of the button before pushing the shutter button. Is something going wrong here? Shouldn't I be able to hold the back button AF while releasing the shutter? Or do your settings only work WITHOUT back button focus? Thanks for any feedback.
I don't use BBAF so I assigned Recall Custom Hold 2 to the Af-On button. Watch my Memory Mastermind tutorial to work out why I assigned this. If you want to switch it back to AF-On go to the Custom keys in the main menu.

Hello Mark, I am on a6500, with one apsc lens and 3 FE lenses. Never had fullframe body. Waiting for the satisfactory futureproof model. I find that the R4 is the first step into new kind of sensor and processing tech. Feels like the next one will be more sophisticated. While doing good with the apsc, I can wait one more year. What do you think, should I wait for the R5 or get the R4?
That really depends on what features you are waiting for. In a year’s time the R4 will start to be discounted but I doubt an R5 will appear until 2021.

Check the A7RIV has been updated to the current firmware and the folder structure on the memory card is exactly as outlined on the download page.

Hi Mark. Could you please explain the priority of the global settings and the mode settings (PAL). If I alter the global setting from what you have in A7R4MG1, then these will apply to my A S and M modes, but will these be over ridden by your PAL settings?
The PAL settings are loaded as a separate process to my CAMSET file. If you alter any of the global settings after loading my CAMSET file they will mostly be ignored by my PAL settings. After moving the Shoot Mode dial to 1, 2 or 3 you can press the down button on the Control Wheel to scroll down and check every setting that is registered in the Memory.
Hi Mark, a great time saving feature - is it possible to use this technique to copy the settings to a Sony A9?

Well just got back from the beautiful Hill Country here in Texas (shared my photos in Flickr) and used the first settings you shared with members with much success but I have to say this revised memory settings are amazing too and they are in my camera now. What Fun belonging to your help!!!I Really enjoy my hobby with all this information you provide. It makes owning a Sony Camera such a Joy. I compared your screens of 1,2, and 3 with my screen and all matches except in 1. Weather it is in AFC like your screen or AFS on mine that's easy to change and perfect. My question is about mode 1, does it matter that my screen has it in Program in stead of Aperture like your screen? Mode 2 is in Aperture and so is mode 3, but 1 has it in Program. Just curious. Thankyou.

@Mark Galer's Alpha Creative Skills Yes. I used and copied the latest. I'll try again to see if it fixes to Aperture.FIXED IT!!!As usual, its our mistakes. I fixed it right away because your comment make me think I used the old SD card that looks like the New one. Another words I used the new settings on a SD card for 2 and 3 but must have mixed up the SD cards on the table and used the old one for 1. Anyhow it was a quick fix from my mistake. So appreciative of your had work and clear responses.
Mark, wonderful work. Question. Is it true that Sony cameras, in my case a7r4, when on a tripod, you always have to turn image stabilization off, also for bird photography ? Someone mentioned that and said other cameras gad sensors that turned it off automatically when on tripod but not Sony 🙏

Mark Galer's Alpha Creative Skills Mark I have loaded your settings with a few tweaks. I am having an issue with the back top two buttons. One keeps set aperture on “A” but the other selects the widest lens aperture. Trying out a mini Aussie running towards me I do not get any usable images. I am using your action (2) setting with a min shutter speed 2000. A7r4 w 200 f4 then 135 GM lens. Neither worked. What am I doing wrong?

Any SD card will do.
Mark, can I change the file format in your settings to jpeg as the default and then if I want to shoot raw or both I could go into the settings to do so?
Yes that’s possible. The PAL memories on the shoot mode dial (if loaded) would also have to be modified as these will override the system setting.
Thanks for the video... need a question answered. How can I save the M1, M2, with my settings, to a card, so I can load them on to a second body.
The M1-M4 settings are saved to the card. Slot 1 or Slot 2 can be chosen in the Menu fo saving and loading. My Total Recall video explains this.

Thanks for all your hard work. I tried this and no go. First of all there was no SONY folder in the Private folder so I created it and copied your SETTINGS folder there. Once in camera, under the load settings options, your settings are not listed. Any thoughts on how to remedy this?
Try saving a memory to M1 as this will create the folder structure you need.

Mark, I downloaded the data files as instructed (7 files, 6 of 5KB, the CAMPRO.DAT files and 1 of 9KB, the CAMSET file) to an sd card. The CAMPRO files showed up in a list within 7RM4 and the CAMPRO file resided in a folder titled CAMPSET. When I pressed LOAD on the camera the response was "The file does not exist". I tried many downloads of the settings with some variation in folder structure (sometimes I would have a SETTING folder with the other folders inside etc), but no matter what I always got the same message "The file does not exist". I even upgraded the firmware on the camera to the latest version but to no avail. What am I doing wrong. I am doing all this on an iMAC OS10.14.4. Thanks in advance for any help you can give. John
You should only have a single download - there is no need for multiple downloads or reorganising the folder structure. I made available a second link as many users were attempting to download the contents of the Settings folder instead of the folder itself. I have had confirmation that the download works so the problem lies somewhere in your workflow.
How do I set these manually as I can download file but am stuck to save onto memory card. Manually would be good for me to set, as I am a newbee and would help me get familiar with settings aswell.. Thanks

Rented one. Getting some pictures with intense blue covering the center, also color fringing and noise. I am an amateur so i think this means this sensor is flawed. Any ideas?

Hi Mark. Brand new A7R4 and Windows 10. Followed your instructions, but when I get to load settings I am informed that "This file cannot be loaded". I have the two files A7R4MG1 AND STUDIOMG there on the screen and selected the first one. Any suggestions?
I have published two versions of these CAMSET files - one for each version of the firmware. Go to my website for the latest settings and make sure you are running the current Firmware on your camera.

I have 2 questions 😇 1) Can you please tell me where is the HDR photo as well as HDR video settings? I searched it a lot. 2) If people and reviews are saying that this camera has upto 15 stops dynamic range, then why am I still getting DRO Lv5 max? isnt there supposed to be upto Lv15?
DRO is a JPEG and movie setting - it has no effect on Raw files. DRO LV 5 is lightening the shadows by 5 stops - it is not referring to the total Dynamic Range. Auto HDR has been removed from the DRO menu as it is expected owners of the A7RlV will be completing this task in post production software - either from a single exposure that protected the highlights or from a bracketed series of exposures. Look at the Picture Profiles to answer your movie question.
@@AlphaCreativeSkills Thank you very much Mark. HDR was a handy feature sometimes. I am using Highlight Metering mode to protect the highlight parts. Gives great results. I will take a look into the picture profiles, thank you again.

Are you running the current firmware, placed the card in the correct slot and you have the correct directory on the memory card. I can help personally but you would need to join my Patreon service for me to put in the time to resolve your problem.
I had the same problem...but only because of I thought my brand new camera would have the latest firmware - once I did EXACTLY what Mark said to do, everything worked fine.
I had the same problem: mi firmware is the 1.10 but I give me the same error “the file could not be loaded”

The A7III and A7RIII cameras do not have the ability to save and load the full range of camera settings. I do, however, outline all of the settings I use in my free eBook for these cameras.
Rather than load a file, I actually prefer to put in the settings one by one, so I can understand exactly how the camera is being set up, and I can think about the applicability of the settings in the different profiles and how I might customise them in the field. If you just blindly load a settings file, I think you miss out on appreciating the meaning of the settings.

Mark I posted this on another video but didn't know if you look at all the past comments or not so I'm taking the liberty of posting it here.. HELP!!!! Mark I just traded my A9 for an A7RM3 which is great for my purposes. I did a studio shoot on Sunday and used 3 strobes and the 100mm STF lens which is amazing. I did not tether but the exposures all looked great when reviewing in camera. I shot raw + jpg. BUT when I imported into Lightroom they were about 1 1/2 stops darker. When they initially came in however they looked just like the in camera review and then they all began to darken one at a time. Do you have any idea what is going on? I've never experienced it before.
Dynamic range Optimizer of DRO lightens the shadows of JPEGS and the JPEG previews that are discarded when you import the images into Lightroom. DRO is not applied to Raw files so in order to have them match the camera view you have to raise the Shadows slider or switch off DRO in camera.
Will this work for the new version, the one with the updated lcd screen?

Yes - the A7RIV and A7RIVA use different CAMSET Files. Please keep correspondence to Patreon.com to ensure a response.

Hi Mark, I’ve downloaded the folder camset and tranfered in the private sony folder. When I press Load in the Save/Load settings Iget The file does not exist. The Folder on the SD card has 9 kb. What is going wrong. Thank you.
My Setting folder is 49 Kb - it sounds like the Folder may not have been successfully copied to your Sony - 9 Kb would indicate your Setting folder is empty

I HAD the same issue - When I press Load in the Save/Load settings I get The file does not exist- It took a while to figure it out - I kept going back to your video. You kept saying load the setting folder and it did not work - finally, I just downloaded the PRIVATE folder that has the SONY folder in it that has the SETTINGS folder in it and then it WORKED !!!!
I just received mine today and for some reason I can’t see in both viewfinder and back of my LCD screen.. lcd screen is lit up once kinda pulled out I’m not sure what is wrong here.
Make sure your eye sensor is clean

I'm on an A7RIV now, but for my A7III I used a combination of Mark's settings tutorials (portrait, action, landscape) and the A7III e-book to build my near identical setups. The e-book lays it out pretty explicitly with the added benefit of a deeper understanding on exactly what's happening with these changes. For landscape I used M1. Portrait and action were my 1 and 2 respectively. Note that you cannot import full camera setups to the A7III the way you can with the A7RIV. Memory profiles, yes, but not all settings and customization. Not unless something changed recently.
I have a free 300-page eBook for the A7III and A7RIII camera available on my website. The A7III and A7RIII does not have a Load Settings option to load my camera settings, Fn Menu settings and Custom key settings. It is only possible to save the Shooting Mode Memories to the M1-M4 settings on a card.
Little bit confused over here. Seems like every settings is locked. Cannot change F or shutter speed. Very new to Sony so any advice highly appreciated!
Reset the camera if you are unsure how to proceed. My settings work as outlined in the Memory Mastermind video tutorial. Nothing is locked unless you then locked them.
Hi Mark. I can't do this on my Mac - the folder I download from your link is called 7RM4, and contains 6 .DAT files and a folder called CAMSET. which looked like a video advert. Can you help? Thanks!
CAMSET01 is the camera setting file - as outlined in the movie. You have to copy the SETTING folder and not the individual DAT files (also outlined in the movie). Try again as the workflow works on a Mac and if your camera is set up as NTSC or PAL.
When copying the SETTING folder onto your card it should look like the diagram at this point in the movie: kzhead.info/sun/oMx9gJGQn3ljnXA/bejne.html
@@AlphaCreativeSkills Hi Mark, many thanks for responding, and my apologies if I sound a bit thick, but when I download and open the folder called 7RM4, it doesn't contain an item called 'Settings' - all it contains are 6 CAMPRO files, and a CAMSET folder (which contains a CAMSET file). All these files are .DAT files, there is no Settings folder! Help! (and PS: Your stuff is brilliant, which is why I subscribe). Thanks.
@@bentimmis1 - Not sure what is happening with your download workflow but the first diagram on my download page clearly shows the SETTING folder on the Google Drive and when it downloads it unzips as a folder called SETTING - if you download the individual DAT files you are bypassing the Folder they are in. I have provided a second link on my webpage that you can also try to download from (this is linked to a Zipped folder called SETTING). If you were to copy all of the DAT files and the CAMSET folder to a folder you created called SETTING it would also work.

Hello Mark, I have a problem. I do everthing until 1.39 and here comes this words: "Diese Datei kann nicht geladen werden" What is wrong? So Icannot load your settings :( Please tell me
What firmware version do you have installed?
How do you download for a Mac? they are DAT files and why 6 seems like one would do it?
As outlined in the movie it is the SETTING Folder that should be copied - this folder contains the Memory settings and a folder containing the CAMSET01 setting.
There is one DAT file for each Memory on the Shoot Mode dial. There are 3 for NTSC and 3 for PAL. It is the CAMSET01 file (inside another folder) that sets the menus, Recall Custom Hold Settings, Fn menu and Custom Keys.
Anyone has custom settings for indoor flash photography (for events/parties)?

Possibly not as if is a different model - I don’t have an A model to test this on as my support from Sony is limited.

There is no Save/Load settings on the A7RIII. I asked Sony to add it in early 2019 when I was in Tokyo and it first appeared on the A7RIV, followed by the A9II, A7SIII and A1.

There is a folder between SETTING and CAMSET called 7RM4. The 7RM4 is what it asks to download.
You can download the Settings folder also - I also added a link to a zipped version of the SETTING folder. If you download the 7RM4 folder you will have to retain the original SETTING folder and replace the 7RM4 folder.
I am doing something wrong because I cannot get the settings folder to do anything. I put the settings folder into the sony folder went menu 7 and went to load and it says nothing to load.
Try saving a Camset file before leading mine. This will establish the full folder hierarchy- you should then be able to switch out your Settings folder with my settings folder..

Does not work for me mark tried all ways of putting folders in Sony folder none work. keeps saying file does not exist.
I have set up a number of A7RlV cameras using this workflow so I am not sure why you are unable to repeat the process with your camera. When you open the folder in your computer you should be able to see 6 files and a folder called A7RM4 that contains the CAMSET01 file.

Hi , on my SONY a7 IV, ; can not access Save/ load Settings longer, its grayed out, the info is : " this function is currently disabled ", anyone ?
Turn the Shoot mode dial away from 1, 2 or 3 as the CAMSET needs to be loaded in P, A S or M.

Mark, after copying your settings in 1,2 and 3, I tried to have my personal settings in M1,M2,M3 and M4 and found a message of File Protected. So I have your settings in 1,2,3,M1,M2,M3 and since I already copied them I want to free my M1,M2,M3 and M4. Please tell me how to do it.
After Loading my CAMSET01 file and three M memories I would recommend reformatting the card before using it to save your own M1-M4 settings. My SETTING folder May have some read/write protection I am not aware of.
@@AlphaCreativeSkills Thank you Mark for your response. In previous Sony cameras the settings were in the SD Card and if formated were lost. In this case your settings that I have in 1,2,3 will remain in the ATR4 even in the Tough SD card is formatted?
Formatting removes the settings. Consider keeping a spare low capacity card in your camera bag solely for the purpose of loading settings. I have now modified the permissions of my SETTING folder on my Google drive so it may allow my Settings to be replaced without formatting.
@@AlphaCreativeSkills OK Mark. If I understand you correctly if I format and do the process again, I can keep your PAL settings in 1,2,3 and use M1, to, M4 for my settings. And I will not need the spare SD card
Mark, I found the solution to free M1 to M4. After copying your settings from M1 to 1, M2 to 2 and M3 to 3, remove the SD card from camera and place it in the same device you used to download the SETTING folder. Go to Sony subfolder in the SD card and remove (Erase) the SETTING folder from the SD card. Place again the SD card in the camera and recall memory, you will find 1,2,3 with Mark Galer's settings and no file in M1 to M4.

Mark I posted this on another video but didn't know if you look at all the past comments or not so I'm taking the liberty of posting it here.. HELP!!!! Mark I just traded my A9 for an A7RM3 which is great for my purposes. I did a studio shoot on Sunday and used 3 strobes and the 100mm STF lens which is amazing. I did not tether but the exposures all looked great when reviewing in camera. I shot raw + jpg. BUT when I imported into Lightroom they were about 1 1/2 stops darker. When they initially came in however they looked just like the in camera review and then they all began to darken one at a time. Do you have any idea what is going on? I've never experienced it before.
I can usually only find time to respond to questions on a video I have posted if the question relates directly to the movie content and not if added in a thread with someone else’s question.
