Russia will not attack Poland, the Baltic states or the Czech Republic, but if the West supplies F-16 fighters to Ukraine then they will be shot down by Russian forces, President Putin said.

Russia doesn't have the manpower or military resources to attack the rest of Europe outside of nukes. But there's question on the status of their nukes - most likely degraded cold war relics. Not to mention the mutually assured distruction philosophy which would conclude with Russia's (and the world's) ultimate defeat. The object of agression is to gain land, resources, people, and money - not suicide.

Putin just made a direct threat by basically saying, "if NATO countries fly any aircraft near us, we will pretend it is Ukrainian and shoot it down over their airspace."

Why would that be? They are currently shooting down Ukrainian Su 27s which is a much more advanced plane than the F16 which is a plane designed in the 1970s. Su27 was designed int he 80s to exceed the F16 and it does.

How many Su's they are prepared to lose for 1 F-16?
Ukraine will get 50. Russia had about 150 active SU35's The SU35 is newer and more capable then the old variant F16's Ukraine is getting. 1 SU35 for each F16 would be acceptable strategically i'd guess. But given Ukraine is under pressure to stop the glide bombs. It will be very challenging for the F16 pilots.

Western oligarchs were thwarted in their effort to seize Russian assets (by "evil" Putin) in the late 1990s, but that only spurred them on to more elaborate scheming. Don't forget that the U.S. blew up the Nordstream pipeline and declared regime change in Russia "the ultimate goal." This is what our unipolar world order was designed to do.
