  • She's blaming someone other than her husband and herself for not thoroughly checking their luggage prior to entering the airport before departing the USA? My, my, my - feeling just a little bit entitled, are we? Other countries don't have a sense of humor with Americans violating their firearms laws. In some sense its a good reason not to visit those countries. An example of no sense of humor with firearms and entering another country: back in 1992 a Laredo (TX) Police Officer chased a stolen car onto the Lincoln-Juarez Bridge headed toward Mexico. It is a crowded one way bridge - once on the bridge you can't just turn around mid-bridge. He shut down his pursuit, turned off the siren and lights and went with the traffic flow intending to U-turn at the other end and return to the Texas side from Nuevo Laredo, MX. The two police departments work together frequently on common issues so he didn't foresee a problem. Nope! He was arrested by Nuevo Laredo PD and the Federales (Tamaulipas, MX), booked and jailed for "armed incursion" into Mexico. It took a few days of negotiation for his release to be secured. I find it odd that she was deflecting by stating her husband is a paramedic and forgot about the ammo in the suitcase. I don't see the nexus between paramedic and ammo. However, if random items associated with his work as a paramedic end up in a suitcase it could just as easily have been a vial of a narcotic/controlled substance. The outcome in that case would not be very different. Check your damned suitcases thoroughly before packing up for any flight but especially to another country. As the State Department Travel Advisory states, if you take a firearm and/or ammo into Turks & Caicos, even accidentally, and are caught you will be arrested and jailed, you will face 12 years in prison and the State Department will not be able to secure your release.
