  • I agree with everything in the video and it's very well put together BUT i am a music producer, i have been putting my music to streaming services since 2017 and trust me "so call hi res audio" is not something crazy from the quality you already hear on streaming services. Just make sure that you are listening at the highest quality your preferred streaming service provides. I do the final mixing and mastering on my songs and trust me there is hardly any difference between the final WAV file we provide to streaming services and the live track on the service. yes, i won't deny that they do some sort of processing to all the songs that they upload but its not something noticeable to casual music listeners. all the things mentioned in this video is very true but you don't really need it. spend your money wisely. the quality of your listening expereince depends largely upon what earphones you use and not on if you have DAC or not. I have a decent setup for this because i make music and i need it. i own fairly industry standard headphones and trust me if you hear the music on that headphones (with interface) you might hate it because casual earphone companies alter the sound so much so that now you are acoustomed to certain sound of the song. the bass is so high in the cheap brands that it doesn't matter even if you have DAC or not. Its gonna be bad. the worst streaming platform to listen to any kind of music is soundcloud. they are the one that alter the original song alot and in a bad way. Buy DAC but don't expect crazy changes unless you have really really high-quality headphones, then you probably need it. better buy any Oneplus, Samsung , or Sony TWC. It's good enough.

    • I think the key is within your own comment: “casual music listeners”. If you clicked on this video it means you are looking for that extra, no matter how little it could be. Whether one is disappointed by the result or not is completely independent to the curiosity of getting everything out of the service you’re paying to listen to high definition audio. I do agree a good pair of headphones should be the first step towards experiencing high definition audio and it will get you 80%-90% of the way there but a lot of these high end headphones need an amp to take advantage of them and there are plenty of DAC/amp combos so might as well get the DAC at that point.

    • @@user-jh5fm7ci6o where did you hear that nonsense? Apple Music uses Apple's own ALAC codec (up to 24 bit/192 kHz) instead of FLAC. FLACs are not supported by iTunes (and the standard music app), but can be played through 3rd party apps. Obviously, you need a DAC for that, since the $9,99 Lightning to 3.5mm adapter limits output to 24 bit/48 kHz. So if you want to make your life easier, get ALAC files for iPhones or use a different app, problem solved. On iPhone 15 models it's obviously easier, since they have USB-C and there's no need for weird Lightning-dongles.

  • Bravo for this video. It is clear and complete. I confirm the advice given therein. I have an iphone with Quobuz as my streaming service. The high resolution does not really bring any technical gain by the file format but above all allows access to the master soundtrack. Mastering engineers usually compress the sound signal to make CD formats. The sound has less dynamics, less life. It is the production of the musical piece that is important, more than the technical characteristics of the lossless files. HIres formats just allow access to audio masters that have not suffered the loudness war. Learn about this subject and you will understand why some songs are so tiring and unpleasant to listen to despite your earphone and your quality DAC.

    @ElCowboyDF@ElCowboyDF11 ай бұрын
    • Superbly put. I think a well recorded/mastered track is really the key ingredient. A badly recorded and a poorly mastered track isnt going to sound good, no matter what resolution we're listening to it on.

  • Very well explained! On the other hand, I must admit, being 59 y.o. I can't tell the difference between hi-res and cd. I even can't tell the difference between a cd and a good AAC or MP3 file. So, for me, the most important thing is to look for good recordings and simply enjoy them. A good dongle DAC makes a difference in resolution, stage and level, but thank God I can save money not going crazy with the numbers due to I can't tell the difference between something very good and something everybody tell is better. Perhaps there's too much marketing with all this, at least for a lot of people like me.

    • USB Audio player pro..doesn't use android output system or simply it doesn't let the android touch the audio in anyway...so USB Audio player doesn't convert anything internally in the device and just send the digital signal to the DAC like a passthrough stream without altering the signal...and the Digital signal is converted to analog using external DAC. which makes it a bit-wise perfect i.e not a single bit is changed.. but it only does the passthrough of digital stream. But the quality of the audio depends on the speakers you connect to the DAC. if they can play every bit perfectly you get exact music offered by the artist...if the speakers are bad you won't get the details...But it is for the older Android versions...on android 14 and successors there is a native android option to passthrough the digital signal to the external DAC without any alterations..using 'AudioMixerAttributes' class and it works the same way as USB audio player pro...you can read the blog post regarding that here 'android-developers.googleblog.com/2023/05/android-14-beta-2.html' in lossless usb audio section.. and whatever he said in the video that comparing audio resolutions to video is not a correct comparision.. audio works differently..you cannot compare 16bit/44.1KHz as 1080p and 24bit/96KHz as 4k...because a naked eye can easily find difference between a normal 1080p stream and a 4k stream but as per audio files according to "Nyquist-Shannon sampling theorem" you should have double the sampling rate of the sound pitch you want to record so considering 44.1KHz you can record 22KHz sound and there is not point in going beyond that because Upper boundary of human hearing is 20KHz. but higher sampling rates can be helpful in professional audio mastering such has when you slow down a sound of 96Khz audio and 48KHz audio to half speed you have less noise in 96KHz audio and have more noise in 48KHz audio...but for normal hearing 16bit/44.1KHz is more than enough..and so less people can spot the difference between a 16bit and 24 bit audio in special studio with complete silent with high end speakers...if you play spotify's 320kbps vorbis audio and an apple music 16bit/48KHz using whatever the equipment in the above video he showed and listened on a headphones in a bus or metro or in normal room noise..you won't hear any differences at all..if anyone says he can hear difference he on powder or whatever....At the end of the day if you want to enjoy Hi-Res audio buy better speakers because they are the deciding factors of good sound reproduction...don't be like people who listens to Apple music 24bit/192KHz audio with their airpods..

Amazon's Prime Music provides a vast library of songs and a bit rate of up to 850 kbps, which results in excellent sound quality. If you find the song quality better on Prime Music, it means you're enjoying a premium listening experience. @SkylineTTurbo@SkylineTTurbo8 ай бұрын
  • Thanks so much for this video but... • The first, most important thing, is not Lossless Audio, it is 'casting'. For anyone who doesn't know this, you cast the music to your streaming device using your phone and then it goes straight from your modem to your WiFi streamer, which should have a 'decent' DAC / streamer. Wifi is a MUST for good sound. After this, your phone acts merely as a remote as the sound bypasses it. You can even switch off the phone. In my case, the streamer plugs via RCA cables to my Amp and my headphones are plugged in to my amp. So, Modem > WiFi (2.4 GHz) > hard wired > amp > hard wired > headphones... • Bluetooth is only okay for small Bluetooth speakers. Bluetooth results in horrible sound... always. • I am not saying that CD quality is not better but the difference is only audible on really good headphones and very high end, unaffordable stereos. • In my car for example, Bluetooth via phone, sounds awful. Playing 320 kbps mp3's off my pen drive (hard wired) sounds MUCH better than Apple music via Bluetooth. I have now ripped my CD collection in FLAC, which is lossless but it sounds pretty much the same. ? I am an amateur musician, guitar. Rock, Blues, fusion... and there are no missing instruments on decent mp3s. • My Pixel (Android) doesn't support my wired earphones via USB C to 3.5mm, so hard wiring from my phone, which makes a HUGE difference, is now OUT ☹️ My Sennheiser buds are Bluetooth and they sound awful. A total waste of money. So I'd say, Step 1 is to get a decent streamer with a halfway decent DAC for less than ₹45K, half that if you can buy it in the US or even Europe. Connect it to your stereo amp. Step 2, get Apple music, sure, but make sure they have all the music you love. Spotify has it all. Apple, well check it out 🤷 And last, I personally hate headphones as I feel cut off from the world so while traveling I use my iPod Classic with the wired earphones. Headphones, especially good ones, are more 'revealing' than any speakers and more immersive so Lossless makes a big difference there. Hope this helps. Along with this video 😊

Very informative and engaging video, as always :) I noticed something recently - when connecting my phone (OnePlus Nord) to my Topping E30 and using Amazon Music (subscription), the display jumps to 192.0 (from the usual 48.0 when using KZhead Music or Spotify). • Hey there, you're correct about the technical aspect in the frequency domain of audio. Although the bottom line is that higher bit rates produce better-sounding encoded files, and ultimately your ears must be the judge, based on the type of material you are encoding. Just as an experiment spend an afternoon encoding the same song to different formats and different constant and variable bit rates. Listen for the subtle and not-so-subtle changes that the lossy compression introduces. Be sure to keep referencing the raw file to remember what it should sound like.

CD quality is what most artists record in. Listening to a poorly recorded album in higher resolution doesn't mean the Sound quality is improved.

    @ghostjacker@ghostjacker11 ай бұрын
    • You never listen to what the artist intended. To put it better, its just a marketing gimmick. Most of them are not even mixed by the artists. And the person mixing is just one guy who was mixing it on some highly neutral speaker and an average listener is bound to not like that. Also the way it was mixed does not automatically make it a standard to be heard. Headphones are tuned differently for a reason.

  • Informative video. Yes, experiencing to quality music is what I prefer. So I bought a Poweramp Equalizer app on android with good earphones (not costly/branded) which makes some difference with regular streaming.

  • Surprisingly the ps vita seems to have a really good dac chip. Better than the Nintendo switch, which is lacking in the amp department. Just something I found out recently. I wouldn’t go trying to drive high impedance phones, but both are perfectly good with iems or low impedance headphones. Same goes for the Steam Deck.
