In the fifth and final episode of Street Chess, we’re heading to Los Angeles, California to meet Damen Fletcher and discover more about his ‘Train of Thought Chess Education Program’; a scholastic chess program which brings chess to young students all over Los Angeles.
Whether it’s on the streets of Compton, the classroom of a local elementary school, or outside his favorite cafe, Damen has found a way to bring people together through the game of chess.

  • Sad how few views this amazing series got - too many people only care about the big names but not the heart of the sport. Perhaps some better titles, thumbnails, and promotion would help if they do something like this again but tough to say. What a shame, these spotlights were wonderful to see.

    • 100% agree. i’m just getting into chess, (just learned how to play in the last couple months) and watching this series has really helped me see and realize that you don’t have to look a certain way or be a certain type of person to play and love it.

  • If you ever plan to bring this series back then I would love for you to do something in Michigan like the Detroit chess club or another club.

  • Noble initiative by Damen Fletcher . More "Queen of Katwe" than "Queen's Gambit" .

  • These guys are straight outta Compton, went to the Debonair Lounge and didn't go back. 🤪 I'm thinking, it's not all fat Cubans and a few beers with your besties. Obviously, the idea and dedication to bring positive and life changing skills to kids by teaching them chess, comes from the heart. The fact theye been doing it for 15 years proves that schools see it as money well spent. The fact that it has brought them financial success is a proof of concept, like a positive catch 22 situation, if that makes sense.

  • 3:00 "The question was, if you had all the money you needed, (be careful. "Need" is not much), what would you do with your time?" See, that is what was great about the free enterprise we used to have. What we did with our time, earned us the money we needed,---and we all got further opportunity from it. :) Bummer those days are gone.
