  • Okolie lost the fight as much (if not more) than CBS won the fight. One legitimate knockdown. The point deductions were all fair. But, Okolie’s lack of confidence in his chin and the constant hugging has finally cost him. Sounds strange, but Okolie simply does not cope well with being hit. AJ the same to a lesser degree. There’s a sense of panic when he gets hit and the hugging is him overcompensating to be safe. CBS did not even land that many clean punches. The best punches landed were all from Okolie (other than the knockdown punch). The knockdowns and the point deductions won CBS the fight. He showed toughness and resilience and deserved the win. Okolie has to win the rematch. If he doesn’t, then other than the Riakporhe, fight, he becomes president of the ‘who needs him club’. Eddie alluded to it in this interview. Okolie is high risk and almost guaranteed to be a boring, frustrating and awkward fight. No fighter could look good fighting him. Okolie had a couple of fights under McGuigan where he looked good. I’m certainly not anti Okolie and actually love his attitude and philosophy, but he threw that fight and his title away. He knows that. Bets of luck to both for the rematch. Bournemouth looked rocking!

  • If I was AJ I'd ignore fury for the time being, not worth the effort and he needs more time with the new trainer before fury, whyte is a good next opponent, not quite world level but close to it, how AJ beats whyte will likely dictate where his career goes, if he does it in style he's likely to have a good fight vs wilder, if he labours a 12 round decision he's going to struggle against wilder, likely get KOed, if AJ can't bring the fire against whyte who moves like he's stuck in mud, then AJ's footwork won't be enough to deal with wilder and he'll land something and AJ likely won't take it. If AJ beats both in my opinion he can negotiate 50/50 with fury and it builds the fight up brilliantly and gives us something to compare as fury and AJ would of both beat whyte and wilder recently.

    • every time ajs been put down hes got back up so the verdicts still out on that 1also if fury can knock wilder into next week then so can aj, he might walk straight through wilder in 1 round everyones making wilder out to be thor cos he nearly knocked out chinny fury who got levelled off a cruiser weight

      @dannystewart5594@dannystewart559411 ай бұрын
    • Yeah he has, I don't think AJ has a bad chin btw, I just don't think he's got the fire anymore, he's safety first and dosn't have the boxing skill to operate that way, if he's goes in tentative against wilder thinking he can play it safe, he's going to get hurt. As we saw with fury vs wilder, wilder won't give up and lose heart, he'll take punishment to give it, AJ won't recover like fury did when he gets knocked down, when he gets hurt he takes rounds off and goes negative, people who fight wilder negatively get sparked. Fury has a better chin than AJ, but how much better? nothing massive, the main difference between fury and AJ is recovery.

    • You need to remember that AJ got knocked out by a tubby Mexican and is coming off back to back defeats to Usyk. Whyte and Wilder are second tier fights to Fury, but AJ also falls into that same category now. I don't see any issue with AJ fighting those on the same level as him and then going on to fight Fury should he come through them.

  • Okolie lacks the fundamentals on how to box. He QUICKLY needs a trainer who can teach him.

    @sh3riff@sh3riff11 ай бұрын
    • I don't think it is an issue with boxing fundamentals at all. The issue is that Okolie is scared of getting hit. In all of his fights he outranges and outsizes his opponents, and when he is at long range you can see that he knows how to box. The problem comes when his opponents manage to close the distance and get into a range where they can hit him. His automatic reaction is just to grab and hold on to nullify any potential attack. You see it more against fighters that are closer to him in height (like Billam Smith) or against fighters that have the skill level to close the distance effectively (like Chamberlain). I honestly don't think there is a trainer on the planet that can fix the issues that Okolie has, because even if you drill it into him, whenever he does get hit he is going to immediately revert to type and go back to Plan A (hold and smother).

      @Davo332@Davo33211 ай бұрын
    • @David Fenemore i get what you're saying, but better foot movement and defence fundamentals would do him the world of good.

      @sh3riff@sh3riff11 ай бұрын
    • As the other guy said he’s terrified of getting knocked out like he was in the amateurs. You can see when he lets his hands go that he can be a problem. But that fear of getting hit really should’ve been coached out of him by now.
