How To Make Fiberglass Fender Molds. Part 1 of 2. Sky-gea build: Part 8

In this episode I thought it was a good idea to show you the method I use when making 3 piece fiberglass moulds for a set of front fenders.
Be sure to turn subtitles on so you don't miss all the added info.
This episode and the next one will be a little self contained mini series inside this Stagea build. These episodes should give you all the details you need to make most types of fiberglass moulds.

  • Absolutely phenomenal! I've been moulding and casting for years (although in the prop making industry, where quick and dirty is the order of the day) and I have never seen such neat and meticulous work. TOW is a master craftsman. I learn so much from these videos. Much respect!

    • Thanks mate! There's always a time and place for quick and dirty moulds too, ones with packing tape repairs and where you just coat the thing in PVA and cross your fingers but I usually point the camera the other way for those ones haha.

    @kenecchi@kenecchi Жыл бұрын
    • Haha, yeah a lot of trial and error. I've done coreflute, signboard, polycarb, tin, and even made my own flanges out of fiberglass before for some really tricky shapes, cardboard is surprisingly good if you're spraying a sealer over it.

  • As an audio engineer, we always say half the mix is done during the recordings (1st stage). So what TOW is doing now means after casting it's straight prep for paint. There will be nothing to fill or correct. Best way, great job bro, love it. If it was possible I'd like you wing my car!

  • I'll never use wax and PVA together as i have had so many problems with them reacting. There's some waxes that work better with PVA, but my two cents is, if you put minimum of 5 coats wax (miracle gloss i guess is some as mirror glaze by meguairs says IIRC 6 layers first time) you don't need PVA. On fast pulls and couple of products done, i've used only PVA sprayed on couple layers. But I gotta say, i like your style on laminates, getting the mat wet first and then brushing it shape. Keep up the good work.

    @bay7695@bay7695 Жыл бұрын
    • I'm a similar way. I don't really use PVA anymore because of how much of a pain it is to deal with, but I figured for the sake of this video is was best to show people the most fool proof way of tackling a mould. I'll always recommend PVA over wax when making a pattern off a plug because you never quite know how the paint on the plug will respond to the gelcoat. However when I'm making parts from completed moulds I usually just skip the PVA step. There are also alternatives like easylease or frekote that I'd recommend but those are much more expensive than PVA and I wanted to show a more entry level video for people just starting out.

  • If anyone ever looks at the price of a decent bodykit and thinks it’s outrageous, especially from a small company. They should watch your vids to truly appreciate the work and time that goes into making them, after all this is essentially the prep work stage of developing the kit and you’ve already invested so much time and effort. In short when it comes to pricing up the complete kit don’t undervalue yourself.
