It's exactly what I didn't know I wanted to see
Nice work Mark. I was wondering how well it was able to capture the bullet coming out of a gun. This is definitely a game changing camera body! I can’t wait to get my hands on one.
You’re a step ahead of all the other Sony a9 III reviewers Mark. 🎉
Thanks
Fantastic footage. Mark and I have learned so much from your videos. This is incredible technology; you are far ahead of the game. Thank you.
Great to hear!
This shows that 120fps does help A LOT, but it also shows that it's definitely not overkill. In fact, if the camera could do 600fps, it would be even better!
240 fps would increase the success rate of getting a bullet in the frame but not guarantee it. I reckon 240fps would give you a better than 50/50 chance. I think increasing the maximum sync speed that can be used in Continuous Shooting mode from 1/16000 to 1/64000 second would make the bullet appear sharp.
@@AlphaCreativeSkills Wait, did you use a flash on these?
Great shots. Did a similar shoot with Z9 and with such fast moving subjects the differences between a fast rolling shutter and a global one are very apparent.
Some people have noted the bullets are still a little 'blurry'. I think they have seen the images by Harold Egerton where he used sonic triggers to fire very short duration flash (not commercially available).
@@AlphaCreativeSkills 1/16000 limitation for bursts is clearly another factor that doesn't allow you to reduce blur yet. It's curious why it exists and if/when a newer firmware can remove it to shoot bursts at 1/80000.
It’s just a matter of time - this is just the first stills camera that features this type of sensor
Eagerly waiting for full review Mark. When is it coming? 😍
My 1-hour preview, 500-page eBook and camera setup file are on my support channel Patreon.com/markgaler - I avoided the stampede of reviewers releasing videos after 5-minutes exposure to the camera.
@@AlphaCreativeSkills Haha. That's the reason lot of viewers like me wait for your reviews. Thanks for sending the link. Have a good day!!
Hi Mark, How is the image quality? Are there any of your raw files online? Have you used the camera for birds yet? Thanks with love, artie
I have released a 1-hour preview video, 500-page eBook, camera setup file and Raw images to my Patreon.com/markgaler support channel - this is the level of support I offer for all Alpha owners + additional eBooks and over 30 hours of Masterclass seminars-all for one US $10.00 subscription payment - no contracts or additional obligations.
The a9 iii has max shutter speed of 1/80000, but you only use up to 1/16000. Any reason why? Still looks amazing btw.
At 1/80000 second you are restricted to the single shooting drive mode (on both the A1 and the A9lll). As good as I am, I need to use Continuous Shooting mode to capture speeding bullets. The A1 can shoot at 1/3200 second in continuous shooting but its 30fps is only available when NOT using AF Tracking. The A9lll can shoot 120 FPS without AF restrictions so long as you are using a compatible lens (most late model Sony lenses).
@@AlphaCreativeSkills So the 1/80000 reach is just going to be useful for underexposure rather than fast capture if limited to single shot?
@@denizahmet2299Nope, AF-S and exposure are not the same thing.
@@GeertDelmulle He said single drive mode not AF-S. Different things.
Expect any restrictions we see now to disappear over time as processing speeds get faster
Mark One word. Wow. if you need to know if the camera works in cold weather happy to test IT for you in the UK…😂
I will be sad to see it go back to Sony tomorrow. I will shoot one more sporting event tomorrow morning and then deliver it back so it can be taken to the Australian Open (tennis) which starts tomorrow.
@@AlphaCreativeSkillsI think they'd make more if they let you keep it as you'd show more stuff it can do motivating people to buy and it's not like they can't afford it 😅
I would need to live in the USA to have that sort of access - pre-production units are rare down here.
Mark why did they take off the apps from the new camera i really liked the sky HDR. I dold my old a6000 and the new camera doesn't have it. I don't like the idea of Nd filters im just a hobbyist
They have been gone for many years. I think the newer firmware and the old apps were incompatible.
What kind of memory card write speed would you need to get the full 120 fps? Is an sd card even possible?
Fast memory cards are required to clear the buffer quickly. The camera can shoot 120fps with slow memory cards, but it will just take much longer to clear the buffer so you can shoot the next burst.
@@AlphaCreativeSkills thanks!
Wow.
Yes - it is very much a 'wow' camera when shooting action shots that require a split-second window to capture the decisive moment.
😱😱😱Wow…
This is my shortcut into getting shots that much decorated professional photographers would struggle way more to get or even never. They say gear don't matter.😆
Overkill for most, but an essential bit of kit if your picture editor expects the hero shot every single time.
@@AlphaCreativeSkills Not just photography, it's simply the best cinema camera as well. There is no FF global shutter, not any global shutter cine camera as good as thia camera with 4K@120fps real time and performs really well in low light. I'm more a videographer than a photographer and still holding back because I wanna see how it performs in 4K@60-120fps under bad LED lighting. That zero rolling shutter at 4K@120fps is a killer feature because even 7.7ms for a7SIII was noticeable at times.
Never miss the moment. But to think having go back home. Load few hundreds images and go through them just to cherry pick 1 or few images. Aww not me. I cant. But first world problems I guess. Haha.
Pro sports photographers FTP the hero image from where they are shooting to their picture editor - they don’t go back home until their work is done.
Continous Shooting of A9iii should be 10 FPS for birding
You can choose any fps you like in the drive mode settings
@@AlphaCreativeSkills I need 10-20 only
30 fps is great for birds 🙂@@shamima98b
You would have done better by focusing narrow on the tip of gun..not the person.
Thanks for your input - I’ll try to do better next time
@@AlphaCreativeSkills Sometimes we get caught up in the moment . I've done it a few times. We get a little rusty. Good job though.
I have an A1, but I won't be buying this strange thing that's been hyped up by Sony influencers. This camera will be a shelf warmer ! ! !
Since my first DSLR in 1991 I have held up the global shutter sensor as the holy grail of sensor design - it’s a much much bigger development compared to mirrorless technologies, as this is the death sentence for the mechanical shutter. I am glad to have lived long enough to witness this landmark camera. Every second photographer at the Olympics this year will be using or wish they were using this camera. I have taken a screenshot of your comment so I can use it in future seminars as this technology becomes more common in the decades that follow.
I thought they outlawed freedom in Australia. 🤔
No they decided to embrace life! They didn’t need hundreds of thousands of needless deaths to determine what was causing these horrific deaths. They chose freedom.
If you think freedom means owning a gun then go tell that to those dead school children. How did your idea of FREEDOM work out for them ? Two school shootings in 2024 already. Is that all in the 1st week back at school ?
How fundamentally wrong can you be, @Reviews4fun1? Australia chose quality of life and common sense, not NRA - Nonsensical Riffle Addiction. The latter being an American epidemic, but you Americans are too blind to see. Just keep calling it the American Dream… because you have to be asleep to believe it.
