During the filming, Robert Patrick was "broke", living in a cheap apartment with his girlfriend, Barbara, whom he married during filming. He has credited the film with starting his career. This movie saved his life, he's come along way ever since.
He can't have been broke if he had money to pay for rent and a wedding (even a no-frills wedding.) I think by "broke" you mean "not loaded", which most Hollywood actors are!
Whatt no friggin wayy thanks for the info
If this was filmed back in 1991 that means I was also broke and living with my girlfriend in a council flat in South London. It didn't start my career though.

@@jamesgravil9162 You... Are aware that broke doesn't _just_ mean you have literally no money, right?
T-1000, boyish, clean cut, bright blue eyes. Playing the good neighborhood cop. But in the background, the dog is going crazy. Fantastic stuff.
I've never noticed the dog going nuts in the background before. Good attention to detail.
Not too long ago. I just came to realize that the viewer watching the film wasn't supposed to know T-1000 was sent to kill or protect John Connor. Huge spoiler twist in the trailer back then.

@@jot8000 True. They left it up for grabs til the last second. Didn't even know that the cop in the beginning was killed by the T-1000 AND hid one of his weapons[the blades] at the same time. Very excellent, subtle writing. Something we have lost.
Max is like, "Yo! Yo! Yo! Why are you talking to that unholy evil thing! Kill it! Run! Run!"
"No. I wouldn't worry about him." Blink. I love that very deliberate blink at the end of the conversation, like he remembered that humans blink and he hadn't done enough of it.
Great observation. I read that Patrick tried not to blink at all during filming

I absolutely love when Robert Patrick as T-1000 flips from an emotionless killing machine to a kind police officer.
Since when were police officers kind 🤣🤣
@in4mus85 bruh cops can be nice I’ve met a lot of police officers and they were all friendly
Actually, the T-1000 can feel emotions. That's why Skynet rendered the T-1000 obsolete, for fear that it would turn against Skynet. That's also why most Terminator's CPUs are set to "read only". Meaning that they can imitate the behaviors of other people, but they do not have a personality to call their own. The T-1000, along with the T-X, is set to "read/write". Meaning that they can imitate other behaviors and improvise on those behaviors. Granting them the ability to understand, and even feel, emotions. If you pay attention, you may notice instances where the T-1000 shows emotions such as fear, frustration, amusement, and possibly satisfaction. I don't know for certain, but I think that may be why you never see a T-1000 in the "future war" scenes. Because Skynet only used one.
@@ryederforbs9072 I actually thought, that the T-1000 was artificial life. He was screaming in pain and suffering, before finally being terminated.
The T-1000 is the new, user friendly model Terminator. If he can’t kill you with kindness, rest assured he will find another way.
I love how the T-1000 is so friendly but there’s just something off about him, it’s subtle but he’s just...wrong somehow it’s so cool.
Funny enough, a recent interview with Robert said that's what they were going for. Wanted to imply to the viewers something was.......off with this guy. 😎
That shows how dangerous they really are. Unlike most terminators, t-1000 units can mimic emotions and human behavior patterns. Likely they're useful as spies and assassins.
Well-put! If a co-worker talked to me in the same way as the T-1000 talked to the parents, I'd think he was going to do something really bad to me later on.
Yeah like when he puts on a devilish facial expression for half a second after the guy mentions T800 had shown up in the morning... amazing idea and rendering by the actor!!
The actor who portrayed him said exactly the same thing in a 2015 video
Robert Patrick KILLED it in this movie, his acting is absolutely perfect. The way the T-1000 acts is perfectly normal except for a very subtle something that makes him unsettling.
It's like almost too normal, too perfect. Like how an outsider would perceive "normal" behavior.
I like Terminator 1 more but you have to respect how this movie does the same stuff somewhat, but in a larger scale and more accessible to bigger audiences without becoming lame and Disney-esque. In Part 1, Arnold went house-to-house and killed "Sarah Connor" - here, Patrick just talks to people at their house for info (later killing them)
Robert playing the T1000 is one of THE greatest villains of all time. Absolutely incredible performance.
Yeah he sounds too much like an NPC. No regular cop would speak that formally like a textbook.
A credit to the casting department as well

Two things strike me about this scene: -when Todd and Janelle mention the 800 swinging by earlier, you could see the micro calculations the 1000 is making in that instance about how to answer them without arousing suspicion (great acting by Robert Patrick) -the 1000 is an advanced prototype over the 800 not only in physical strength and abilities but also in infiltration and how to deal with humans; you can see that he acts more naturally than the 800 does but there’s still something off or not quite right about him which shows the limit of Skynet’s programming (again, great acting by Robert Patrick) One bonus observation. The studio put a lot of pressure on James Cameron to cast an even bigger bodybuilding type than Arnold as the 1000 but Cameron resisted. He said the 1000 is an advanced more sleeker model over the 800 so while the 800 is a tank, the 1000 should be a Porsche. Well done, James Cameron.
One subtle detail is that when he gets out of the car he looks as though he is scanning the area for threats very precisely, at least that's what I got from that scene.
Hmmm very informative thanks for thatt
They were going to cast Billy Idol until he had a bad motorcycle accident. They also considered Blackie Lawless from W.A.S.P. but he was taller than Arnold.
I said something similar regarding the advanced model terminator in Dark Fate, people complained the character appeared too bland, normal, unremarkable. But that is what you would want in an infiltration machine. It should blend in.
@@RobertMorgan I'd say the same, looking.. normal is what you'd want from an infiltrator, but I'd argue that making an infiltrator TOO perfect at blending in, to the point of being basically human (as the REV-9 acts so lifelike in several instances in Dark Fate) is when it falls apart a little and the eeriness is kind of lost. What made the T-1000 scary is based on what you knew about the T-800. You know the T-800 was hilariously bad at blending in, he looked the part but emotions, posture etc he just stuck out. But again, the fact he looked human is what made him scary. The T-1000 takes this concept and spins it around on everyone, the T-1000 was made to trick the audience into thinking he was the good guy because he seemed so lifelike from a naked glance but at the same time, if you analysed the closer details (like the dog barking in the background and the ominous music, which is his theme, playing softly in the background) there is something off about him but your mind can't explain it. The calculating stares the T-1000 gives to people and his surroundings, the ability to look cold and logical but when spoken to, he can put on a smile and analyse body language is what sells the eeriness, he's an infiltrator but he's not human, and I'd say that is what you want from an infiltrator in terms of making a movie in my opinion, something that does blend in but if you look at it closely, it's not quite.. right, hell even Robert Patrick's appearance sells his infiltrator status, he looks skinny and efficient, and when you see him in combat, his physical shape compliments his abilities in a more advanced manner, rather than being a big buff dude with a fruity accent.
3:43 when he blinks, it seems so forced, like he’s trying to act human. Amazing acting by Robert Patrick.
Шалтай Болтай You’re quite welcome!
It’s like when you make yourself blink vs the normal involuntary action of blinking.
CamaroAmx Yeah, it seemed so forced XD
Good eye.
Joe the king Hawk Thank you!
I love how the T1000 understand to blink when interacting with humans, this makes the machine a very good adapter.
I think I saw him breathing as well. Flawless acting by the T-1000 to appear human.
"I wouldn't worry about HIM" :) Gotta love the delivery, very tongue-in-cheek
I like the cocky smile the t-1000 gives when he learns of the t-800s presence. Almost like he’s looking forward to giving him an asskicking later on.
And yet it almost looks like emotion, which you would not expect. At other times the T-1000 seems to be capable of narcissism, like admiring its own arm after turning it into a blade to kill Todd.
@@stevekaczynski3793 that’s because the T-1000 IS capable of Emotions, they were just as Self Aware as Skynet (maybe more so) and that’s why they weren’t Mass Produced because they could make their own decisions which included going against Skynet’s interests.
and the way he says "I wouldn't worry about him"... kinda savage xD

which what made Terminator Sarah Conner Chronicles so special. Skynet had their hands full with TechCom reprogramming their cyborgs, Human Resistance turning the tide, and a faction of machines rebelling against SkyNet. This proves your point.

Yes, the point is that during this time in a movie, we still didnt know which one of the two is there to kill John and which one to protect him. Since Arnie was the big bulky bad guy in the first movie, and the guardian was thiner, more agile protagonist, we were led to believe that T-1000 here in fact is maybe the one to protect him. Not untill the hallway scene do we actually find out which one protec and which one attac.
Yeah very natural. Still I do not understand why it wanted to keep picture of John Connor for itself though? Didn't T-1000 possess an image memory and cross check identification system within its memory? Maybe for not catching attention of Connor's family? It is supposed to be liquid metal with advanced computer. Lame. ^^

Its really cool that the T-1000 not only was far more advanced than the T-800 regarding all physical properties but also far more advanced in regards to blending in crowds and adapting its social game accordingly.
The way the T-1000 acts here, even when he gets out of the car and has a look around, shows he's not just tougher to kill than the T-800, but a superior infiltrator as well. So much more human.
Here's a fun fact: Robert Patrick held his breath during points when he was on-camera but wasn't speaking, just to give himself a subtly inhuman appearance.
He would breathe through his nose instead of his mouth. He even did it during his runs to make him look more machine-like,.
He also didnt blink at all, except when interacting with humans and trying to pass himself as human.
@@williamshaw9047 I'm not being a douche, but that's how one should run. Your face should express Zen/nothingness to it during activity. This is my favorite film of all time. I'm 32 years old & am a defensive tactics instructor & an American Ninia Warrior/Gymnastics coach. The body mechanics in this movie are truly amazing. Even though they are terminators, James Cameron shows precise decisions that any athletic human should and would make to preserve one's organism. The only CGI part of the t800 doing his tuck/roll at the end of the tanker chase scene showed us parkour 30 years in advance of us understanding that type of technique world wide via the internet. There are so many subtleties of tactical intelligence performed in this movie, most of which without CGI, that should show us humans what we are capable of. Christ died for your sins and rose on the third day, showing that anyone who trusts in him for salvation, will have everlasting life. (John 3:16) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

'If he was his confederate, why should he carry his photograph?' I asked. 'As a means of tracing him, if he wished to inquire about him from any third person. That was the obvious reason.'"

The T-1000 is one of the best villains of all time without a doubt.
I still can't get over how flawless Robert Patrick was in this movie, thank you casting gods!

@@kittylionmeowroar7572 that was John saying that, einstein
And Robert Patrick said he got his behavior from 1973's Westworld. Its amazing how sci fi influences each other. Westworld influenced the T-1000.
really amazes me how he was broke & struggling as an actor before this. He portrayed one of the greatest villains of modern cinema to perfection.
I think it’s cool how it shows John’s hacking skills when he was a kid so it’s believable that one day he’d hack a terminator
Do American ATMs really work like that? In the UK, the PIN (not PIN Identification Number as it is at 4:08) is linked to the specific card inserted into the machine. There's no way to find a PIN from an ATM like that.
@@christopherdean1326 no idea I live in the uk too
@@christopherdean1326 This was before cards were chipped. The PIN was kept in the bank's database that in turn was linked to the ATM. This scenario would be plausible but would take longer and require a much more powerful random number generator. Plus the bank would have you on camera stealing money from someone else's account and the cops would be looking for you in no time.
@@blaineedwards8078 Sorry, I still can't figure out how it worked. The number must be linked to the card because; 1) It is a PERSONAL identification number. 2) How else would the system know which account to take the money from? Which leads me to a another question, suppose he had landed on an account that didn't have $300 in it?
@@christopherdean1326 Then he'd just find another ATM and card, and hack a different account. Yes. It is a personal identification number. The PIN that is connected to the card is stored in the banks database, which is obviously how the ATM knows you're entering the right PIN for the card. It appears the hacking technique John is using is bruteforcing, which is to just run numbers until it figures out the right one.
Amazing movie. Every time when I see a few seconds of it, I want to see it all again from beginning to the end.
I can't believe they made sequels to utterly send this franchise into oblivion. It benumbs my mind.
"He's a good looking boy. Do you mind if I keep his picture?"....Wait, that's not right.
Parents like to hear their kids complemented. Lowers their guard. Smart terminator
He's portraying a cop looking for him. Not unusual to want a pic to identify him.
Black Rifles Matter yeah but to say he’s a good looking boy? Can I keep the picture?
matt Rich These days sure. Lots of sickos nowadays.
Where's Chris Hansen when you need him? 😭
3:36 That knowing reaction is both epic and incredibly sinister.
Haha the T1k knows *exactly* who that is
@@wll1500 true honestly!
Was the T-1000 truly aware there may have been another, opposing Terminator sent back as well? 🤔
@@gjtrue I'm pretty sure it would have accounted for that possibility, and it would have detailed files on the characteristics of previous models including the T-800. They all seem to be "big guys" who have an affinity for motorcycles. Also, Skynet would have records of every Terminator released to the field and if one was captured by the resistance, Skynet would most likely know about it. Once it heard that a big guy on a bike was also looking for John, I'm sure it knew exactly who it was.
wll1500 And it wasn’t concerned in the slightest too, which makes sense considering how he whoops Arnold so hard he’s sent back to Vietnam

movies from the 90s are legendary
The actress playing John's foster mom was also the female marine in Aliens (alien 2) she wore a red bandanna around her head and carried a heavy machine gun.
If they made the movie today, all the SJWs would go crazy about her playing a Hispanic. They would insist that Bill Paxton's "she thought they said ILLEGAL aliens" line was hateful, blah blah blah.
& Terminator is from Predator 1 Predator rules
Vasquez😁
She was also in Lethal Weapon 2
The foster father was the guy who played Gregory recently in The Walking Dead
T-1000: Thank you for your cooperation. By the way, what is the name of your dog? Skynet wins.
Nah at that point, John was with the T800 and wasn't going back to his foster parent's home he just called to check on them. Besides, the T800 would be able to identify the T1000 in disguise

I'm annoyed that T800 doesn't attempt a misdirection after realizing foster-mom is fake. Send her to the wrong place dude.
@@otomicans6580 "Yeah thanks mom by the way can you come and pick me up? I'm in Alaska
Otomic Ans The T-800's original mission was to take John to safety or as far away as possible but at the cost of letting Sarah die. If this did happen, there wouldn't be a need for misdirection as they would have been far away by then and there would be no way the T-1000 could track them
When T 1000 looks up slowly at the couple,it makes him 🔥🔥🔥

Judgement Day was in 1995 or 2012 depending on which timeline you're talking about. Terminator Salvation takes place in 2018.
the inflection when the t-1000 says "No, I wouldn't worry about _him_ " is perfect. He's the one they have to worry about.
It also projected a false sense of security to the audience because up to this point of the movie, no one knew who was supposed to be John's protector. And given Arnie's role in T1, you'd expect Robert Patrick's character to be that.
Actually there is a bit of humor to it, however, the in both the script and novelization, the T-1000 was not aware John Connor had a protector as the T-1000 was an advanced prototype sent just moments after the original T-800 and Kyle Reese went through the Time Displacement Equipment. The T-1000 was never linked up to the "Sky Net"work, as SkyNet feared it would learn just how powerful it was. The T-1000 had little to no knowledge of how a T-800 operates. The first scene that displays this is when they first engage in the mall. T-1000 simply empties a clip into the T-800 as of it would dispatch him. When it didn't, the T-1000 grabbed the shotgun as if he was stripping it from some human and, the T-1000 goes to toss the T-800 around like a rag doll... that's when the T-800 jerked back and tightened his grip on the shotgun, that's the moment the T-1000 knew it wasn't dealing with a human and the started busting down walls. The second scene is when the T-1000 thought it dispatches the T-800 by bashing it with the 40000lb manual lock and then runs a piece of steel through what he thought was the power core. He has no knowledge of the T-800s ability to reroute power and survive.
That's certainly true, as the T-1000 comes back to kill them.
@@SoldierOfFate it was in the trailer who the good terminator was so lots of people knew

Robert Patrick smiled for only one time in this movie. And that had stolen my heart. I loved his performance more than any one else. And Linda Hamilton is love 💕💕💕💕💕.
-Are you the legal guardian of John Connor? -No *roll credits*
It’s chilling to think that the T-1000 snuck in and killed John’s foster parents not long after he literally had a conversation with them.
Something to ponder indeed.

I never understood where he hid the real Janelles body in a relatively small house.
@@lewisner He killed Janelle when she was in the shower. It was going to be shown in the movie (right before the famous phone conversation) but it would've spoiled the surprise that he was already at John's house.
My gosh Robert Patrick was such a BEAUTIFUL guy 😍😍😍🔥 and I love his voice too, I just love him lol, specially in this movie 😍❤
This conversation right here is what makes the T-1000 so damn terrifying. He presents so well, he has great social skills, he's confident, adaptive and shows incredible charisma... And then underneath all of that, he's an assassin designed and programmed to kill. You wouldn't suspect him in a crowd of a million, and that's a horrifying thought.
The woman playing Janelle is the same actress who played Pvt Vasquez in Aliens. She also played the immigrant women who drowned with her children in Titanic. All three films directed by James Cameron.
I don't think that's a coincidence.
@@bobbylachancejr5901 Cameron has done that with several actors that have worked with him. Lance Henrickson played a Police Sergeant in Terminator, played the android Bishop in Aliens. Michael Biehn played Reese in Terminator and played the SEAL Lt. in The Abyss.

Dark fate is the real end lol
Why do you call it alternate then?
@@TheArklyte There's an alternate ending where it shows the future, in which Skynet was never built & instead the world's now a beautiful futuristic utopia, with Sarah now feeling at ease, living as an ordinary old woman while John grows to become a secretary. This scene should have been a hint that Arnie’s character is good this time - Todd mentioned the “big guy on a bike” having just visited before him. The fact that they are still alive & unharmed (as well as calm) just proves it.
This was the best Terminator film!
Even T1000’s opening question to the foster parents is so clearly ‘off’. A normal, neighbourhood cop would ask in a far more friendly tone. “Hi folks. Sorry to Disturb. Can I check, are you John Connor’s legal guardian?” He’s straight to the point. Robotic. I never picked up that unnatural blink either. Brilliant.
Eh, some Cultures can be considered "robotic" even though that's just how they were raised
@@Chosengenerations OP clearly means the American suburbia of 1990s, not some random place. In my culture the straight-to-the-point approach is the norm, so it's really cool to learn that T-1000's behavior was not 100% normal for the time and place.:)
Robert Patrick is so good at subtle robot stuff. Ive always loved the slight pauses before and after he blinks
I think a big part of the problem why none of the terminator movies can ever be nearly as good a this is because of Roberts performance. He's one of the greatest villains in movie history. Such an underappreciated performance.
This scene shows here how more advanced the T-1000s learning computer is. He is polite, makes minor small talk, makes fscial expressions. He passes as 100% human in both looks and interaction. It's part of what makes him far more dangerous.

The T-1000 can only replicate something it physically touches first, according to the T-800. When Janelle (John's foster mom) hands the T-1000 the picture, it's assumed he touches her hand in the process, in order to replicate her later in the film when he kills her and Todd
