Greg Murphy in a Holden V8 Supercar at Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit - July 1st, 2023. Click HD
(Make sure you select HD playpack!)
On the 1st of July, V8 Supercar star Greg Murphy was reunited with his 2008/2009 Sprint Gas Racing Holden V8 Supercar, TMS001. A car we have proudly owned since 2015.
Greg was over in the UK to race a Nissan Primera Super Tourer at the Super Touring Power Event. As soon as we knew Greg was coming to our home circuit, we had to arrange for him to drive the car, which is in its period correct, 2009 Bathurst livery. He would drive the car on both days, first on the GP circuit and then on the Indy. Both runs were as part of a demonstration.
TMS001 was a car Greg and his Dad actually owned after Tasman Motorsport lost its funding. His team Greg Murphy Racing, ran the car in Super 2's for Geoff Emery, who would eventually buy the car and whom we purchased it from.
Greg hadn't driven the car since 2009 and hadn't seen it for over ten years. He wasn't quite sure what to expect but, was not disappointed when he jumped back in it for the first time, amazed at the condition the car was in and that everything was how it should be. His reaction was a huge pat on the back for us.
It is very safe to say Greg absolutely loved driving the car again and at such a legendary circuit. It really was a pleasure to have him in the seat and see the genuine enjoyment he got from it. Don't miss the end of the footage, to catch his reaction.
Unfortunately, the session was cut short, giving him only 4 laps. A quote from Greg "I feel like a kid that's had his lollipop taken away"
It was a real shame, as he was on brand new slicks and was just starting to pick up the pace. Picking up the pace is something he definitely done the following day on the Indy Circuit, footage of this to follow soon!
Public Service Announcement - there is some excitable adult language.

That’s awesome! I worked with Murph at PWR (super cheap 05 and 06) and then Tasman. I designed a lot of that car. Great to see it running and murph enjoying it !
🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
Do you remember what chassis he was running in 05,06?
I was at pukekohe with my younger brother in-law in the early two thousands when a ford?(F..ked on race day)(found on rubbish dump) (Fix or repair dayly) From memory went backwards through the infield and the race was stopped until the mess was cleaned up i was walking with kepa and two guys step out of a motor home Greg and a team member. My brother in-law who has mental health issues is a devoted fan of Greg's and when he saw him he started walking backwards away from Greg who was about to go back to the start grid for the restart i called out hay Greg can i please take a photo of you and kepa together he hesitated looking at the race car's and said Sure but be fast please i was about to take the photo and his team member said give me the camera jump into the photo with your brother photo taken and race won by Greg kepa treasure's that photo almost twenty years later and i have uncountable respect for Greg for taking the time to give Kepa a moment he will hold onto for the rest of his life 👏👏👏GREG MURPHY YOU ARE A BLOODY KIND DECENT HUMAN
I remember those VZ’s back then were horrible.
That also means you might have worked on our VZ? HRT047.
Short shifting too...LEGEND!❤
Greg Murphy is and will always be one of my favourite drivers
Honestly I could watch this all day
That bloody roll bar. Greg was getting better and better every lap. Magic stuff mate.
Blame Larry for that! Yes, he barely got warmed up and they cut the session short. I don't think they gave the demo sessions the time they deserved.
Greg Murphy in a V8SC around the GP circuit...pure gold ❤
Murph said it best....Fkn awesome. Thanks.
Love this footage , LOVE the vehicle , and I'm a huge fan of Greg Murphy . I may be living in the past but still replay the "lap of the gods" from 2003 regularly . Thanks for this .
Same here. For me Murphs ‘lap of the Gods’, Dick Johnson’s Greens-Tuff “he’s gone off the track and into a tree” qualifying run, and George Fury’s balls out top ten shootout run from 1988 are all favourites of mine that get watched regularly.
I have one of the year 2000 HSV’s imported into the U.K. by wilkinshaw. This was a treat to watch. Thanks.
Walkinshaw. He's a pom. Don't make me mention the Ashes.
That was as good to watch at Murphy’s famous “lap of the gods” at Bathurst when he set a lap record in qualifying. Of the greatest drivers in my era. I just absolutely loved watching Murphy in the K Mart Commodore
And this is why I as an American love watching v8sc
Gosh sounds so mega. Enough to bring a tear to your eye, the old engines. And he drove it like a proper race car of course! You'll have plenty of data to pour over now! Glad you could make this happen.
LGAustralia what are you doing here?😂
Someone accidentally left their work account logged in? LG want to sponsor us? 🤣
@@templetonthegood Hey we enjoy racing, too. Don't forget we've sponsored many a V8SC team over the years ;)
@@LGAustralia One of our other cars, HRT047 was sponsored by LG.
@@HoldenRacingUK Sure was! In Betta colours. We often do those dual sponsorships with electronics retailers.
Murph at Brands in his old V8 is a thing of beauty 🔥
Thanks for all the comments so far, glad you like it. If you like this footage, you will love the next installment on the Indy Circuit, better camera angle and Greg is going for it! It is glorious. This video will go live in the next day or so. Follow us on facebook or subscribe to the channel, so you don't miss it!
i was not able to attend ,, but ,, massive massive thank you holden for coming over and giving the uk public something stunning to watch
Loved it! The Brands GP circuit is just fantastic! A PROPER circuit!! 😁👍🏻
Very poor camera position.
The footage would've been better if the camera wasn't viewing a roll cage! Unbelievable.... You could've mounted the camera on the actual roll cage looking straight out the window.
@@shredvenom Then all you would see is the track ahead and not Greg at work, the dash etc. That would have been very boring, just seeing what's out the window.
Awesome....murph you're a faaaaaaarkin legend
I still rate the 2004 Kmart car as his best he ever drove. The car he accomplished his lap of the gods in. I even still have an original Kmart racing jersey.
Love seeing Murph back where he belongs. In his natural habitat. Fan for ever.
I'm a Australian Ford fan and this brought a smile to my face, really, it was like he had never left the car since 2003, awesome. Thanks Greg Murphy for doing this for us.🇦🇺✅🦘
Bro, I'm a kiwi Ford fan, I loved it too!!
Murph rules! That V8 is singing beautifully...
Certainly looks like Murph was having a lot of fun. Awesome
He got into it!
I love the Larry bar. takes me back to the old days.
Lowndes bar as well 😂
@@zakoreilly5722 it stopped the tyre coming in the car lol
Best part was the soundtrack
You can’t beat the sound of a v8 supercar I could watch and listen all day long, so happy for Murph to get a drive and judging by his language he loved it 😂, can feel his goosebumps must’ve been an awesome feeling!!
One Brilliant NZ Man in One Legendary AUST Holden Car!
Brilliant from Donegal Ireland,,,👏👏
Incredible to how easily he blew past the European Touring Cars with ease and that includes the 500bhp Ford RS500's on track as well. Awesome footage, thank you.
A few too many might be wealthy car owners but not actual professional racers. A joy to watch Greg Murphy though
Twenty yeaqrs difference in racing car development and the Group A cars were more production-based than the terrible Ford/Holden shillouette formula that our premier racing format developed into. For crying out loud, it's not even a Holden V8 -- it's a Chevrolet. The "Supercar" format has continued it's sad decline.
One suspects the others weren't experienced saloon car drivers in race trim.
@@couttsy222 Not really what he was talking about though, was it. Take the whinging elsewhere if you can't enjoy the video.
Why? BTW, it's spelt "whingeing", which I wasn't. Sooking, though? Yes!! 😁
Sounded like Murph was having fun! It looked like a handful on cold tyres, but man that thing was singing a lovely song once it warmed up!
I wish we still had V8SC - what we see today is a shadow of its former self, pre sequential boxes was the pinnacle for me but this is close to perfect :)
Couldn’t have said it better myself 💯true
Larry Perkins had the best sounding engines
Amen to all that
Can’t get this symphony from an EV love that V8 power and sound and Murph driving is the iconic combination. Murph I was at the Chase when the year you broke the Mountains lap record it’s was amazing and have never forgotten it.
Thank you so much for uploading this. Murph is the coolest guy on the track and the nicest guy off track. I was lucky enough to meet him at a book signing once and he spent ages just talking and joking about stuff. True Kiwi Legend!
Absolutely bloody awesome.
Good to see Murphy still got it an looked like he was having fun out there
Massive thank you to everyone involved past and preset to get this beauty up and purring. Great sound and fantastic to see Murph back in a V8SC, what a treat ty ty. Hahaha Murph's comments at the end... couldn't have said it any better!
Probably my favourite track, and it would be so much fun in a V8 supercar!
I was there. I’m not Particularly versed in V8 supercars but it made a glorious sound and it was great seeing it amongst the Super Tourers! ❤❤
In case you're wondering what the bloke driving it is capable of..... kzhead.info/sun/lrazfKZ-iGeDZZE/bejne.html&pp=ygUXU3VwZXJjYXJzIEJhdGh1cnN0IDIwMDk%3D
Certainly brought a tear to my eye. Thank you Greg and thank you Holden Racing UK. Some fond memories of that car and team.
Just imagine if the V8 Supercars series had gone to the UK, instead of the US and Middle East!😮
Simply cooler than penguin piss - superb to see - thanks for posting and massive thanks to Greg Murphy for taking us out around the track! Well done to all involved in making this happen!
A Great Kiwi Legend driving a Great Aussie Car and showing them how it's done. Nice Murph.
This track will suit V8SC so much. Imagine 30 of these thundering around the GP Circuit
YES YES YES! MORE PLEASE.
Amazing what a treat for all of us
Epic the man, dont think or you ever see this sounds beautiful
I got photos with Murph and that car. Good to see it still doing the rounds
can never get enough of V8SC's easily the best tin top formula out there - a true drivers series - none of the BS flappy paddles, torque vectoring, traction control. Just a driver three pedals and a sequential shifter!
2.5 pedals...
can't really say that anymore. old v8sc was a true driver's class.
@@biggussniffus5537 In what ways?
@@bremCZ id say 3, a lot of drivers still use the clutch as a way of controlling the car under braking.
@@DragoserakerIT Which they also did before when it was a full pedal used for upshifting.
Go that Hillman Imp! 😬
Brilliant Greg and Team
Greg is one of the real gentlemen of motorsport. I have clear memories of meeting him back in '96 on a Saturday at Wanneroo when he was driving for HRT. Top guy.
Ask Marcos Ambrose , ( now living the US ) if he knowz Greg Murphy. ?
I agree what he did for my brother in-law twenty years ago might have been a small thing for him but my younger bro has mental health issues and idolises Greg just a slip of time and it still makes him happy looking at the photo of him and Greg arms over each others shoulder big smile and off he went to win another race ce
Driven many laps around Brands. Haven't managed to do the GP Circuit yet. After watching this video, I think that i need a V8 Supercar to do it in. Love watching the V8 Supercars. Awesome.
Excellent video. Nothing equals that sound.
This sound is heaven
Thanks for the vid. Love Murph! Even more when seeing him behind the wheel of a V8 Holden going fast!
Loved his comments after the drive...."how was that mate?....ah f$$king awesome!"
Great Britain V8 Supercars thankyou
Awesome awesome footage. Saw Murph post about the drive. Thanks so much for putting up this epic footage
Thanks for the amazing upload ❤
God how I have missed this sound
Sounds amazing 👏 absolutely awesome
You need to see these Cars at Bathurst over the top Brock Skyline and through the Chase on Conrod Straight at 300kph live, very impressive Cars and Murphy one of the Best.
@svenomick5857 100% that would have been the ultimate experience. Just watching them on the TV was pretty good. But live would have been amazing
Great stuff. Murph has still got it. Every apex clipped perfectly. Respect to you from South Africa❤
Impressive to watch one man welded to a machine
God damn i love the sound of a V8 and sequential straight cut gears gearbox.
Great to see murph having fun in a super car again, I've missed seeing him do this. Great to see how much he enjoyed it to.
So glad you guys could make it happen, it's been a joy for everyone, us viewers included. But I bet a terror for the other drivers on the track those days seeing god coming from behind in the mirrors. 😉😂
Awesome to see murph on brands ,met him a few years back hes a top bloke
you still got it mate fkn awsome greg, lay down the rubber road to freedom brother🏎🏎🕺
Still amazing
Really cool!
I’ve still got my MURPH 51 Kmart jacket from 2002/3. The lap of the gods qualifying lap at Bathurst is still one of my top 3 best motor racing moments. I can’t separate it from Ari Vatanen’s Pikes Peak climb or Ayrton Senna’s famous qualifying lap with onboard camera.
Nice to hear that thing singing. So glad it was the grand prix circuit and not just the indy. Would love to see a group of that era supercars all racing at Brands
i love this track in GT7
Not a lot got past him! Bloody great sound and vision. Good work Murph.
Seeing incar with the Larry Bar and Murph amped to drive it, just made my day, and I'm still buzzing from watching svg win on monday morning
Good stuff!
So good to see Murph back behind the wheel of a Holden Supercar
Lap of the gods
Love that track!!! The undulations are just brilliant. Should be the home of the British GP - piss Silverstone off.
great to see the old 51 out on the track
Murph is a legend!
smoking the European tour cars
Greatest video I've seen all year! Looked like so much fun. 🤘🏻🤠🤘🏻
miss this a lot :(
Pure power and noise Murph, poetry in motion, that livery brings back memories of our late Jason Richard's....thanks for the ride....
Awesome video! 👏
Sounds wicked .
I forgot how much better these things sound then now. and look better.. so much better
Murph ... The Man ... Chur Brother
So cool, this Era Greg was teamed up with Jason Richard's, legendary kiwi pairing.
Nothing better then an Aussie V8. I miss the Holden v Ford competition.
Definitely a tear in the eye. God how I miss seeing blokes like Brocky, Johnson, Grice, Perkins, Richards, Seton....all the greats, including this absolute legend, ripping up a circuit in an Aussie V8 supercar. Grew up watching the supercars in the 70's, 80's and 90's and loved it. Can't watch the (Aussie "Supercars" now, without Aussie made Holden's and Ford's, it just lacks soul.😢 Thank you so much for uploading this great video 🙏🙏
I would love a v8 Supercars event there and oulton park British would love it 😂
Always loved Murph. Love how the guy says "fucking awesome " as he leaves the pits.
This is glorious, we had it so good back in the day
Fantastic! Really feeding it the onions from a couple of laps in 💪
Like a great white shark swimming with goldfish.....awesome murph
That was awesome. That was way better than awesome. I have to go watch the Lap of the Gods now, I can't help myself. Chance of getting any work done this Friday afternoon rapidly approaching zero
Awsome mate that showed those fans what it is all about
Murph the Legend 🥰 not left foot braking like the old days... 🏁🏁🏁
Love the Murph in a Holden. Some-one should take over the Holden name - and turn it into a proper racing Brand, like McLaren.
Officially we are registered as Holden Racing Team.
Sounds like this make life worth living
I wanted to hear him talk more about it, outside the car and everything, if you have that, throw it up please.
There is some other chatter but just us discussing how its driving and what changes could be made to setup.
@@HoldenRacingUK yeahhhh! Include that too haha. All of it.
@@HoldenRacingUKIf you guys & Murph are OK with posting that, I know I wouldn't be the only one that would love to hear it. Anyone that doesn't want to listen, can always skip past it.
