If you want to support:
The fact that you are watching the videos and care about the music and future of Wintergatan is the best support anyone can have, I want to thank everyone who is here for that kind of support, it is really the fuel for the Wintergatan Engine.

Why do we accept support in this way?
I, Martin, can already sustain myself 100% doing what I love to do. If you want to support artists/organisations who have not yet reached that privileged position, please consider supporting other artists/organisations who need the support more. With that said, I have too many ideas and too little time and with your support I can get more help from people around me to execute the ideas better and bring them out in the world faster.

Thanks to www.CNCRouterparts.com and www.Matterhackers.com for providing the CNC Machine and the 3D Printer for the Marble Machine X Project!
All income will be used to build the Marble Machine 2.0, a full sized but transportable Marble Machine that we can tour with! I am going to build it in seven modular horcrux parts, every part has its own case. When we are playing we will arrive the day before the show to assemble it. And we should bring the Music Box as well and synch the two machines up in a plywood duet... just have to succeed with the MM2.0 build first... wish us luck and take care, all the best// Martin & Wintergatan
Ps. I have named this instrument "The Modulin" because i see it as a mix of a MODular syntheseiser and a vioLIN - MODULIN. We will film more videos to explain how it works. I am also building a version 2.0 of this Modulin for stability, it is very cobbled together at this stage and it has broken down on us on stage several times...
when you are insanely good at both music and engineering at the same time.
Anh Thư Phạm 300th like also yis
?
But don´t get solve if you prefer be musician or engineer.
Not my eulogy? Is it.
not insanely, but good
What a genius I am 72 and never seen anything like this before in my life
I am 69 and never either. It is a kind of sadness of healing.
@@deesnights you are being rude bro..
I mean, the future is now, old man. And it seems pretty cool.
Well, now it’s something you’ll remember for years to come
Are you 79 now ?
This is legit the only song I've ever listened to that makes me cry, and I have no idea why. Yup, still does it... every time
Its the power of music
Dan aku bernasib sama
You're not alone
The tone of the modulin has so much longing.
Oh god it got me too
I don’t think there’s a word for the emotion that this makes me feel... It’s like, when you’re standing in a place with lots of memories. They make you smile, but you can’t spend long here without needing to cry because you know that it won’t be the same. Not quite nostalgia, not quite melancholy, not both but not neither.
Its fleeting happiness that you know will be gone once you feel it and wont linger
Content but not safe, its completeness with the knowledge that this feeling of fullness is slipping away.
What a poetic comment. As I read it he had gone to the modeling again. I thought it was gone after the first time as the machine was winding down. Sheer beauty!
Sehnsucht is something that comes close, for me.
Bro, I really feel that...
I like to imagine that he is hiding away in deep caverns after an apocalyptic war. He broadcasts messages and songs across the wasteland using equipment and instruments he assembled by hand, all in the name of spreading a message of hope across the wastes. Here he tells us: 'all is well'.
christian caldwell fuck, what a image to put in my head. But feels very accurate
I've heard a stand-up comedian saying "Enjoy life as it is because, its not getting better"
R Verro I like the hell out of that comment, definitely something to live by in my opinion
Oh wow, someone needs to make an animation based off of this comment. It's so fitting with the music...
been plyingg too much fallout, i need a break hahahahahaha
That feeling when you wanna like a video then find out that you already did...
Joey Utomo ikr
Joey Utomo yeah! This happened to me exactly same! 👤 KZhead is promoting his videos and i hate him
Hassaan Haider what?
I love the German subtitles to this: "Wunderschöne Melodie beginnt" -> "A wonderful melody beginns" It just makes me grin.
And then: Beautiful melody ends... 😪
english subtitles say that too
i love how he implements legos into his designs. An absolute genius.

Daniel Redman Agreed
Look it this way: most big time youtubers have 10-15M subs... yet their videos have less than 5M views (and I'm being generous, quite generous)... This channel has about 300k subs, and this video was seen over 2M times, about 1:6 ratio... The Marble Machine video?, about 1:100 ratio... They are doing good... I'd love they come to Argentina, but we are quite far...
Daniel Redman nah, I think he is quite popular already
Agree!

I rediscovered this song while looking for something to get my newborn to finally sleep. I'm happy to say it works perfectly to calm her every time.
Keep a drive/file somewhere where all the music you make her listen as a baby can be found. And for one of her birthday, give it to her.
Very good
You seem like a wonderful parent
How sweet
Nice
I’m writing this in the lobby of the hospital as my mother is in a critical condition. Since the diagnosis I never cried about what might happen. I also did not play this song because I knew what kind of emotions it would stir and I did not want to break in front of her. But tonight, as I lay here in the lobby chair with a bottle of water, a blanket, and a prayer, I listened knowing it might be the last time I could cry freely. Thank your Marten.
How are you today?
I hope you're doing okay now
Hope your heart is better and all those tears that were shed are now gone.
@@LoureiroRodrigo it had been 8 months. I think about her every day, but I guess this is what life is…

I miss the days of Martin just making music. All this Marble Machine madness is driving me bonkers. More of this please...
If robots have a soul, the Modulin would represent how it sounds.
That's like saying "I like how the colour green tastes."...
thats like saying the word "If" wasn't in there at all oh wait..
Synesthesia FTW! :D
this comment is so edgy
All the joke comments aside, I think he has a point. It does combine with the electronic/robotic sounds of a synth with the human motions and style of a violin.
Not sure if musical instrument or evil genius weapon.
both
Eurorack. So, kinda both.
This lulls you into a belief that Sweden is benign. But deep down you also feel that Sweden is plotting to invade all other nations. This piece of music is the Global Unified Anthem, uniting all of us under the flag of Sweden, mandating the global order of Ikea (with the help of a bit of Danish Lego). We are doomed I tell you, Doomed!
If being dominated by Sweden means we get good music like Wintergatan, I'm all for it!! :3
Actually, the government would be fine. Gun restrictions would be upheld and the leaders would be safe from ballistics. The worst thing that could happen is if someone tried to stab or poison the leader.

You have built some of the most amazing and unique pieces of musical creation I have ever seen. The methods with which you think to create music, and the endless love you so apparently put into not only your music but also your instruments is inspiring. This is one of my favorite pieces of all time, and it is played by only two instruments. Martin, you have created such a hauntingly beautiful composition that I will love until the end of my days, and I know that I am not alone. You have inspired me to make my own projects and follow my own dreams in creating things, and for that I am eternally grateful.
Agreed
Tony Stark could build an arc reactor in a cave with a box of scraps. Wintergatan could build a whole orchestra's worth of unconventional instruments in a cave with a box of scraps.
This video need some Jeff Bridges screaming at mediocre musical engineer at the end of it now.
What do you mean unconventional? Look at that thing!
@@saitenotoshuitsnaini "Well I'm sorry. I'm not Wintergatan."

The paper tape is the most melancholy thing I’ve ever seen. The nostalgia of the music box, and the slow, but all too quickly exhaustion of the finite tape. Seems a perfect analog for life. Simple, beautiful, seems to unwind so slowly and then it’s over. Of course you had to wait for the paper to run out and fall. Well done. Thank you!
When you get on youtube "real quick" before bed... heres to insomnia cuz of insane new discoveries This is amazing!
Ok. I have so many thoughts. 1. where even are you, you look like you're in the bat cave. 2. How the hell do you think of and then execute the making of all these different instruments? 3. Where can I buy merch because I am ALL IN. 4. Do you ever play live anywhere? I imagine it would be hard to tour with all this machinery but it would be so magical. 5. You seriously should collab with some other youtubers to make a short film. You score it, and then someone like madeyewlook does some beautiful sfx makeup, someone else can do costuming, writing, directing, acting. it would be a damn masterpiece and I would pay a lot of money to see it. Like, I already have this whole concept in my head of what that would be and it's AMAZING! 6. Why are you so talented? 7. Who the hell do you think you are, making me feel all the feels? I'm sure more will crop up, but I'm honestly just making that film in my head right now and it's honestly so beautiful.

Also, WHY IS HE NOT IN KZhead REWIND
it's time to stop
Vabulous1 Ya need to calm down a tad. You seem a bit too excited there.
He's back!! i love this machine and this artist! Wow! this song reminds me alot of Wendy Carlos's work.
This guy is seriously ahead of his time.
ur not dissapionted in the lack of picachus?
Wendy Carlos' original versions of "Switched-on Bach" are really difficult to find. They're not on youtube, just a lot of keyboardists covering them (poorly). Not on Spotify either, or any of the streaming services as far as I know. Would you know where to get them?
FrequencyOfThought Ahead of his time? Motorized paper-tape music boxes you mean? Or the synthesizer? Neither of them are originally invented yet surely they are home made. I however do not believe the idea for making these instruments were not without inspiration.
Thor Jørgensen You're just being a jerk bag I don't have time to argue with nobodies going nowhere critiquing everyone because they are good for nothing negative pieces of shit. You know I hit the nail on the head , now run away
I love this channel as the creator actually made something himself, and then play muse using the exact perfrct stuff that he built
в этих звуках, каждый услышит свое. Кто то найдет умиротворение, кто то почувствует совсем рядом потусторонность, а для кого то это постоянный поиск и открытия.........
Not sure if magic by a musician, or music by a magician.
Either way, this is awesome!
nicholas wollstein He is both, lol.
Heh, okay.
Maybe engineering by a musician, or music by an engineer?
Or maybe magical music, by a musical magician!
There are very few people who evoke so much emotion...so much sadness... with only two instruments....Your 2nd instrument you play very well and makes your performance connect to my soul.
+hari Krishnan yup THAT how i feels
harmonious
Sadness? I get happy by this music.
Listening to the music made me close my eyes... and they welled with tears. So lovely ❤
He so creative! I really enjoy all his inventions.
You've outdone the entire history of the theremin in a single performance. Congrats and respect
Some of Brian Wilson's stuff (I Just Wasn't Made for These Times, Good Vibrations) might have a shot at it but otherwise yeah nothing else comes close
The fact that this two instrument are fully electronic and yet still capable to have such a emotional voice and express it like this ,is truly amusing.I’m not trying to say electronic instruments aren’t capable of doing so but I mean you guys literally invented these and beyond the scientific side of the matter you guys also managed to give these “machines” a soul.A soul that turns “machines” into instruments, “voices” into music and this “scientific invention” into art.Thank you guys for this amazing experience and this amazing work.
Wrong first one completely mechanical ,and the second one completely electronic and that is why this music is so unusual
First one was mechanical, and second one was electronical.
Akın Yarar nothing is impossible through music
I always come back for this song, so much beauty and sadness melding into such a wonderful pairing of instruments.

Martin, I think you are a genius. I grew up loving music of all kinds. And inventors, too. I cannot begin to fathom the level of imagination, ability and talents you are in possession of, but I recognize how important and rare a person you are in modern society. When you see the Music Box about to let go of the last bit of the programable music sheet, similar to when you see the timer on a song close the end, it feels like when you're about to say goodbye to someone dear to you, or when you know it's getting late and that you will have to part ways very soon. It's a feeling of emptiness before it even ends, you are fully aware that your time is up, so you start to look at everything more closely, as if that would make the moment last longer... This song, means very much to me now, and I hope it will continue doing so in the future. When I look back to this, I want to think: "All Was Well"...
As a Violin/Fiddler of 23 years, since I was six, This, Is, AMAZING! I wish I could play that instrument you made. Ultimately amazing! Just Amazing.... You made my heart bleed babe.
