Top 10 Amphibious Aircraft and Private Seaplanes You Can Still Fly Today
The increasing availability of airstrips, safety concerns and requirements for better fuel economy have resulted in the gradual decline of seaplanes and so-called flying boats. Private aviation, however, is not ready to give up on the concept, so quite a few of old-timers are produced till this day plus brand-new models are being developed with the use of modern composites and innovative powertrains. Today we will look into the topic of amphibious aircraft that feel equally comfortable fairing through the skies, landing on water and taking off from short runways.

Wow, keep it up, good video, yours is the only channel I found which extensively covers different kinds of aircrafts.
Wow, thanks! There is even a whole playlist that covers all of the aircraft episodes I made: kzhead.info/channel/PL_FzXOZV6f6EYE926GkDE6HWi24UXBPnX.html By the way, which of these is your favorite?
DOLLAR SIGN IN US OR AUSTRALIA???
As a Canadian, I'm always blown away by the performance of the DHC Beaver.
As an Australian, price is not clear because it could mean two countries
Only gripe is cruise speed
I just said something i add too that is much better couse when u drag any thing is better from the heaviest SIDE couse it is a drag in the other way u burries the load.i know why it is not in frontal side but yes there is perfect for this kind of plane.mr. is just an opinión ok u know better 👏👏
As an American, we dig it too.
I like the super petrel for its STOL on land and water. The SeaMax is a nice one and love the fact they putting in a business in FL at the college. Love the range of the Lisa Akoya as well as it's odd shape.
All are nice choices indeed!
Thank god someone who can explain different kinds of amphibious planes

Akoya should be rename skylifter...cool Great plane!
Sounds good. Is it your favorite model of them all?
Finally lisa is coming up with something new
Great presentation, thank you
Glad it was helpful!
You've been talking about it for some time. How about past/present video of the Pan Am Flying Boat
Thankyou keep them coming, I think they should all have a back up electric motor , 1 motor is far to scary . I’d like to see one with good gliding capabilities, thanks for the entertainment 👍🏼
Appreciate it. If you were to get one for yourself, which model would it be?
Automotive Territory: Trending News & Car Reviews I think the Lisa Akoya would be my pick but many of them are great.
@@automotiveterritory DOLLAR SIGN IN US OR AUSTRALIA???
the equator p2 looks amazing, an almost glider like amphibious electric plane, thats my dream, just give it tandem seating, more glider like wings and some sort of feathering or folding prop and itd be my ideal aircraft
nevermind the akoya looks even better! ive been thinking for a while that seaplanes should have foils
Lol
Good assembly, it's a shame you can't fly with the Equator P2 Xcursion and the Lisaaircraft Akoya seaplanes these days. The Equator P2 Xcursion has not yet taken off the water, and little is known about Akoya since it was owned by a Chinese.
It's not owned by Chinese anymore

At 2:11 you say “questionable company policies” regarding the Icon. could you possibly expand on this or point me to more info, thx
Hi there. Here are the excerpts from Wikipedia. In April 2016, the ICON A5 purchaser's agreement was made public and was noted by the aviation media as containing many controversial elements not usually found in aircraft purchase agreements. These included contractually required pilot training, maintenance, agreements not to sue, the requirement for factory airframe overhauls every 2,000 hours or ten years (whichever comes first), and a limit on the aircraft's life of 6,000 hours, or thirty years. Furthermore, each aircraft would be equipped with a camera and recorder to monitor pilot behavior, that is owned by the manufacturer but must be maintained by the owner. Owners would have to agree to be "supportive" of the company. Future owners were required to sign the same agreement or face penalties
In May 2016, the company admitted that the released contract had been a mistake. Hawkins stated, "It should not have gone out in the form it went out without an explanation. [Customers] had a right to be taken aback." The company issued a revised contract that removed many, but not all controversial elements. Removed were the audio and video cockpit recorder, the "responsible flyer" clause, limiting the owner's cost of the mandatory airframe overhaul to $15,000, and removing the 30-year life limit. Retained were the agreement not to sue, the requirement for company-approved training, and the requirement that the agreement bind future owners.
@@automotiveterritory Just the fact that they originally issued the ridiculous contract is enough of an alarm convince me to stay away from that company at all costs. It speaks a lot for the people who wrote that. This makes me think of a word that begins with commu, and ends with nism.
Seaking is probably the lowest cost easy build for home build kit planes. Ideally two passenger and cargo.

6:10 working brakes? thanks god xD
I've heard the Icon A5 is encountering manufacturing problems, delay in serving orders and the price keeps going up.
Hopefully they will be able to overcome the roadblocks. It looks like a nice model on paper.
@@automotiveterritory Yeah its nice. Even their video ad is impressive. I'm sold. But orders are dwindling due to plane's inherent defects that haven't been resolved yet and also their having issues in their maintenance service department too I've heard. Sad.
@@automotiveterritory YOUR VIDEO IS BAD! DOLLAR SIGN IN US OR AUSTRALIA???
The Icon 5 has several problems, one of which is the business model of ownership. There are contractual obligations to owning this craft that are not required by any other aircraft manufacturer. I love to fly seaplanes but i would not buy that one. It's too much marketing with hidden obligations.
We need these Planes here in the Philippines
It would be nice for sure.
@@automotiveterritory AND WE NEED YOU TO TELL US IF THE DOLLAR SIGN IS IN US OR AUSTRALIA???
The Seamax and the Superpetrel are two amphibians from Brazilian manufacturers and are among the most desired in their class.
Big market in Indonesia 16.377 islands Need more Electric Seaplane
I’m not sure which is my favourite but it wouldn’t be the one priced at $2.something million. I saw one that has a parachute and folding wings, that one is high on my list of favourites 👍🏼
$2M AUSTRALIAN DOLLARS OR AMERICAN DOLLARS???
@@artyjaycayairlines At that point does it make much of a difference?
Double wing pattrolow
More seaplanes should use hydrofoils. It's such a low drag penalty in the air and such a massive increase in water performance. You're basically giving up free performance if you don't
Wouldn't it act like an anchor and nosedive you into the surface when landing?
@@OrdinaryLatvian It's a lift-generating device, so the faster you're going, the harder it pushes up. You would still get higher drag than the air, like you're describing, so it's important to land slightly tail-first.
Lisa Akoya will be my motivation to get a pilot license.
It's a great motivating factor indeed!
Anyone else see the Kodiak 100 and think, man, that would make a killer drug plane?
yes but i still need to run my cars and bikes on regular fuel ..
Only 3 aircraft I would trust on this list: Beaver, Piper, and Kodiak.
I would choose the icon a5 as my private seaplane
