And you have to beware of men who move in when you have teenagers. Many men look for women who are divorced with teenagers because they are pedophiles. And why doesn't she find a house that's already fixed up with the amount of space she needs, the two bathrooms and the three bedrooms? Much easier than living with contracting issues!

    • That seems to be a requirement when you leave the Philippines to come to the US. My MIL brought girls over to live with her, got them entry level jobs and made them send money home to their Mom's. She was very strict with what they could and could not do, had curfews, she knew where they were at all times. The money they gave their Mom's was Very appreciated. It was an allowance of about $100 a week. The girls did not have expenses as they lived at her house. My MIL was also Very strict on what guys they could talk with and date...she was more intimidating than an American Dad with a shotgun 🙂 All but one girl married, they all married nice men who wanted a stay at home wife. When I run into them in public they cannot wait to tell me how happy they are and gush about their children who are right there with them and so sooo very sweet and well behaved. The one girl who did not marry was treated as an outcast because she wanted an education and get on her feet to support herself and her family back home.

Dave is right - it’s a very poor and difficult economy- sometimes we can give just as a short term generosity and show Jesus’ love. But, Dave’s advice is what I’m going to work towards going forward -which is to give in a manner that helps them out of desperate poverty.

He delivers ice to all the gas stations, factories, and Amish. In the last three years his business has taken a massive hit from TWO stand alone ice machines. One in each small town that sit in key locations in the corner of a parking lot. DO NOT BUY AN ICE COMPANY. The company will slowly dwindle as these standalone ice machine become more popular. Just my advice from one Dave follower to another and an expert in this exact area. Much love and good luck!

  • For the girl who asked how to get on with her friends having brand named clothes. My kids know that I don't like logos on our clothing or weird t-shirt graphics. It's a cleaner look and looks classic. My youngest did a Journey book in Girl Scouts, it was on how people perceive you. The troop discussed this and decided that name brand clothes would make a difference at school. To prove them wrong I bought my daughter a 2wk high end wardrobe including purses and shoes (she already had jewelry). The Very First Day she went to school wearing all this new wardrobe, so Many of the "IT" crowd came up to her and suddenly wanted to be best friends. After the first 5 days of school she had had Enough! She didn't like all these FAKE people coming up to her and talking about "the most stupid things." We encouraged her to continue through the two weeks. At the end of it she was just So Angry she wanted donate All of it...except for one of the smaller purses because it had a pocket that kept her Wet n Wild lip gloss upright. She would rather the other kids appreciate her for her, not her clothes. Many of the kids left her alone after she switched back to her regular wardrobe but she was absolutely ok with that. She knew who her real friends were. She did keep a few of the "new friends" because they didn't talk like jerks or worry about what she was wearing. Also, remember, those kids clothes are paid by their Parents money...when they turn 18...that's Not Their Money. Who knows if those "brand wearing kids" will have an income to keep up appearances or will they be just scraping by. Learn about money from your parents, not those kids.

  • Im from the Philippines and you hear the same story most of the time. Some can be helped and some, they just make it their lifestyle. My relatives started calling help as “allowance” and their title became “remittance earner.” I helped until I was able to move all my immediate relatives moved here. Now, they don’t even say hello to me and living their lives here like they didn’t get help from me. I’m just relieved that I don’t have to send their “allowance” anymore and finance their expensive private universities. Very ungrateful but now I’m free. I still have occassional money I send for emergency. During the tine I was helping, I just worked really hard and not spend expensive stuff to myself. I didnt want the money taken our of my savings and investments. Im lucky that i have enough income. I feel that Somebody up above helped me. Be kind but to yourself first. ❤

  • Hey Big Uncle Ramsey, You just stated that "Honoring your mother and father" is not giving them money for their unacceptable behavior; I dare to ask; What if my father is dealing with aggressive dementia? This is when he turns offensive / violent and on occasion he recapacitates and apologies etc. What then? I'd like to know what you would do. Thanks for being awesome you all. Gil

  • Cautionary tail : My parents let my dad‘s sister move in the house shortly after my grandmother died. she has a minor health problem, but I don’t know if that caused her to lose her job. she was living off my grandmother’s money that was from my grandmother’s husband that died. so my aunt had no money. Then my aunt got monthly income from the ex-husband. My parents insisted that she pay some rent and stop eating their food. She barely talks to them and lives upstairs with a small refrigerator and my dad gets into confrontations with her here and there and it’s a not good relationship because my mom and dad are getting in bad health and my dad’s PTSD is making him belligerent. They need help and my aunt will not help. Me and my sisters go to their house and help them. Dad and aunt are in their 70’s and mom is in her 60’s.

  • And if you won't/can't take care of that child across the community? That's okay? That's not generosity or spirit. It's this part of you I don't like. Your generosity isn't enough to take care of everyone in need. And if the gov't is overspending, it's not on poor people that money's being spent on. It's your types of buddies further up the income ladder who're over charging at getting it. Are you angry with them? If so, then why don't you say that?

  • Caller #1 - Linda - why do people call and then not want to hear what the advice is? And try and get the whole story out at one time - WHAT A RUN AROUND! Time for sister to grow up. Now, why is that so important? Because if sister doesn't get straight now, then she won't be able to cope if something happens to you and your Mom. Ken is not right about the reason - it's not so you have a better life, it's so SHE is forced to learn to take care of herself before she really has to b/c she has no one else to depend on.
