  • A more accurate acronym would be the DRC, not simply Congo, which is used to refer to the Congo Republic (often called Congo-Brazzaville) a different nation altogether. The DRC is rarely referred to as simply Congo for this reason (though Americans do seem to prefer using the name Congo on its own, even though that name refers to two countries and one region (the Kongo region which includes Angola). The DRC is technically different from Congo ,given that in the present day, the name Congo alone is used to refer to Congo-Brazzaville rather than the Democratic Republic of the Congo whose acronym is used to prevent confusion with the former.

There are many ways to label it, some idiots still refer to it as Zaire because they think Mobutu's era was much better. While I see it as nothing but an oppressive regime with a puppet backed by the West who was eventually ousted when he lost favour. Others call it "RDC" in French but many simply say Congo. No one uses Congo to refer to Congo-Brazaville. Since most of the problems such as wars for over 60 years usually occurs in Congo, DRC.
