In this week's episode, Patrick and Stuart receive their delivery of Gilboy's Hard Wax Oil so that they can finish the work on the restoration of the previously sanded oak wood floors on the chateau first floor. They also show the recent progress on the starter plants for the chateau garden and potager (kitchen garden), as well as the chateau flowers that are currently in bloom.

  • Patrick and Stuart, that Gilboy's product is exceptional. What a transformation in your floors. I am looking forward to seeing how Gilboy's restors your antique furniture. Spring has arrived, and your blooms are gorgeous. Particularly, I am a fan of your irises. I just wish that they would stay in bloom for longer than a couple of weeks per year.

  • When I was a kid, we lived in a house that was built in the 50s with real hardwood floors. Every spring, we would take everything outside to wax the floors. Mom would wax it with the best wax back then and have us put on dad's old socks and buff the floors by sliding around 😄

  • Hi guys! The floors really do look superb. I’m sure after 400 years they too appreciate the care you’ve given them! It’s good to see you getting closer to the point where the chateau will actually begin to give you back money 🎉. The plantings are just gorgeous! Spring is no where to be found here yet. So bloody depressing. Thanks for cheering me up! 💕

    • Hi Elizabeth. Once the polyurethane was removed and the floor were smooth and splinter free….. they basically yelled: Nourish me! 😂❤😂. And they look fabulous. Indeed, come May, we will be able to have B&B guests. How fantastic. Even if it just one room ….. for now. I completely understand how depressing endless winters are. It was a huge motivator for us to move here. Hoping for a fast approaching spring for you ❤❤❤

  • The floors are BEAUTIFUL!! 0:30 They really pop!! I’m definitely going to order Gilboys Hard wax oil for my old floors which haven’t been polished since the house was built in 1925. - that’s old to us here in Florida. I have Gilboys furniture polish and it’s wonderful. Brings up shine on my antiques. They also sent me some sunflower seeds as a gift! I’ve gotten them started, but don’t know how tall they’ll be. Such a nice surprise- It’s a well run company with quality products!! You’ll love the polish, too. Everything old is new again.🤗 Happy to see your flowers blooming and it looks as if spring has sprig! I admire your passionate dedication to restoring a grand old castle! Would love to visit and stay with you some day! Thanks for sharing with us!

  • Good morning Patrick & Stuart, the floors are just so beautiful! The Company that did the sanding did a superb job. Their machines must be top quality as the finish off looked lovely, hence you using that marvellous product, the beeswax and linseed oil, goodness, who would not be proud to show such magnificent flooring. The wood has been beautifully preserved, if that roof had holes inside it, you would have had one terrible headache to sort that out. Well, all said and done, the flooring looks amazing. Enjoy. The roses are always welcome, they grey of the wall behind the red rose just complimented each other not forgetting that orange/copper rose, so beautiful. Yes, all is very satisfying to see. I did not wish to buy many winter/spring bulbs, but now that I have seen the beautiful Dutch Iris flowering in all it's glory, I am thinking, maybe I should just get one packet, most satisfactory and rewarding. A pot loaded with those Iris' would soothe any trouble soul not matter how bad the day. It was a most enjoyable video to see all the developments and I cannot wait to see the restoring of the furniture with those waxes. Good luck. Do take care, many blessings, both are looking so good, that means, you are happy and contented. Just keep counting your blessings. Kind regards, Elize.

I had a small garden with Irises, Chrocases and I think, Daffodils. They pretty much grew and reproduced themselves which really fascinated me as a child. I could smell your Lilacs all the way here in Hawaii. It would sure be nice if Gilboys comped you some of their products. Am looking forward to seeing how you decorate the rooms👏🌺🐾🏰.

  • Since everyone else has "waxed" poetic on the floors I won't. Instead, I'm going to comment on the flower shots. Whichever of you 2 took the shots is genius! There is depth and meaning to each shot. The irises themselves were spectacular. Just a note: the first iris was an iris germanica - German iris type. These are tall and large headed irises and bloom first in Spring (that is, they bloom after the "Dutch" bulb irises - that are short and from bulbs, not rhizomes - roots) but are the first to bloom from roots. The 2 others are iris sibirica - Siberian irises. These are just as tall as the German irises but with a distinct look to them. Their leaves are also grass like as they are thinner in feel and width. These don't mind little humid areas, compared to the German irises that prefer a poorer soil and drier - more like well-drained - soil environment. A tip: If your irises have not bloomed for a few seasons it might be because their rhizomes (roots) are not exposed to the sun beams of Spring. Iris plants will "rise" above the soil level to 'reach for the sun'. If you continuously put soil, leaves and mulch over the root clusters, this tells the plant that it is in hibernation and they will only put out leaves. But the real danger is that extra soil on top invites pests and borers - the iris borer in particular will turn any rhizome to a stinky mush!

  • I'm happy to see someone with a Chateau go for old school all natural materials used for hundreds of years to treat wood floors! Finally! I know all of you use dmthe English paints that are good quality but they are all acrylics, so water water based but still plastics. Which I'd never dream of, regardless of the British marketing and choices for their own grand houses. It's also cheaper to make your own real oil emulsions. But natural, breathable and ecofriendly. Finally seeing a floor treated the proper way warms my heart. Its not a covering, its a conditioning of the wood itself that seeps into the pores and will protect it from drying out, cracking etc. It's so beautiful too. And you wont have the problems with all the scratches that inevitaby show up on a glossy layer of polyurethane laquer either. To get scratches it needs to bee someting heavy enough to scratch the actual wood, not a glossy plastic layer. Considering you guys are often moving furniture around, it's a more practical choice for many reasons. Good for you! Your blooms are beautiful. I cant decide on a favorite. But the scent of lilac is one of my favorites, one twig in a vase makes a whole room heavenly perfumed ❤ We had minus 3 celcius yesterday. And almost May! Something is very strange with the climate these days, Aoril in Tuscany has been like August, and according to my stepfather all winter has been very warm. You guys seem to be in the right place! And everything looks beautiful. ❤❤❤👌✨

  • The floors look great! Congratulations! I’ve been meaning to ask how Patrick’s plantings are doing; so glad someone else asked and thanks for the update. Wow, they’re really taking off!!! Lilacs and roses - it must smell like heaven when you step outside, or into any room where you’ve brought them in. ♥️♥️♥️ Lemons ready to use in the kitchen - so jealous. My purple lilacs smell like grape cool aid and my yellow ones are fragrant too. I hope yours are as well. 🙂

  • Just watched the video when I finished work (couldn’t wait till the morning LOL) What an amazing product. The floors looked stunning when they were sanded. They look stunningly amazing with the wax. Probably better than when they were done first day. The depth of colour and richness is simply beautiful. Well done to both of you.

  • Thank you so much for always providing a layout diagram of the area you are working on, to guide viewers; you are one of a very small group of Chateau owners that do! & it is so helpful. The floors look absolutely amazing, beautiful, rich in colour & elegant WOW! (prepping is everything & the sanding was a really professional job). You definitely need to buy one of their hand-drill attachment buffing discs its amazing for use with furniture - just ask Tracy @ CDLL😊. Garden in full bloom, how beautiful & how envious I am.

  • Oh guys you must be like a dog with two tails over that outcome with the floors! I saw Ash & Tez doing it at La Lacelle and was amazed at the transformation there too. I think with an older property you would have also lost something if you had used Polyurethane as it would have been out of keeping with the property. I love the fact that this is adding to the property without diminishing it. I look forward to hearing your Patreon's reactions if they choose to share them. On a separate note when you were showing the updates on the grounds I thought about those big sheds you have at the back of the property, there are about 5 of them. I wondered if you had found anything interesting and wondered if you have any plans for them that you are ready to share. By the way, it is JR don’t know why it shows different names between comments and live chat.
