    • That's why the mom took the blame in the end. She knew she deserved the punishment. I don't easily judge people like her though, sometimes wives who are victims of domestic abuse tend to develop some sort of Stockholm syndrome, this mental health issue is sometimes out of their control. When the mom finally snapped out, she decided to cover up the kids and literally took the bullets for them. I'd say that's a fair redemption

The mom however felt guilty for not protecting her daughter from the abusive father that she took the jail-time( instead of Dot). I also think that the mom is thankful that Dot did something she couldn't do herself.

    • @@annabourbon i mean , maybe. but you also have to consider the fact that she killed him, they didn't call anyone right away, and they went to the dance and buried the evidence like nothing happened. it definitely wouldn't look right. also consider the fact that if they did everything right, the idea that if it did go to trial, the daughter might have to relive/tell everyone what happened with her father. i think the mother might have not only been atoning for her own sins of the situation but also protecting her daughter from having to confess to everything that her father did to her.

But people do have a right to say (reasonably sane) sexual things to someone ON A DATE that is intended to be a potential start of a romantic relationship. You can just leave if you don't like it, but that's the point of a date that you both indicated initial attraction already. Trying out a more intense step is reasonable. Same as making a move to kiss someone etc on a date. Maybe it works maybe it doesn't, but trying in that context is fine... In this case, it DID work out too, anyway... she turned out to be into it. • 7:47 "Paul is horrified of fathering his own grandchild." LMFAO! Something about him being so shocked and disgusted at a very real risk coming true in this equally disturbing and disgusting situation is just gold to me. What makes it even funnier is that she JUST supposedly got pregnant. But because the tampons just didn't magically evaporate from her personal inventory and from her purse (a normal mainstay item in many women's purses for themselves and other women potentially) immediately after the news, that just makes him lose it. Righteously holding up his "proof" of the so-called airtight, incriminating tampons. He's so concerned about tampons, he should have been concerned about condoms if he was so scared of fathering his own grandchild. I know darn well going by his reaction there was no protection going on. Oh, screwing around with his underaged daughter is just fine, but fathering a child by her is just too much. Did he forget where babies come from? Was he just so slow on the fact that nature doesn't give a single rat's hiney about whose fertile human sperm and egg belongs to who? Paul deserved everything he got for gr@ping his daughter, putting her and his family through all that mess.....and for being very, very, very dumb.

    @Dalton_Boardman2000@Dalton_Boardman20002 жыл бұрын
    • 100% agree. It also wouldn't be weird that she can talk. For majority of people who are deaf it's a choice whether or not they speak. Many don't because they sign, dont take speech lessons, or don't like that they have a accented voice. Others because they simply don't want to (which is 100% valid btw). So in the scene when Nina freaked out that Dot sweared I thought that was silly.

He calls it privacy, but he's the one invading hers and he blames her for him telling her everything? He should just go to a therapist if he needs someone to talk to without them "invading" his "privacy".

    @juliamagicals7218@juliamagicals72182 жыл бұрын
    • It was her fault, because if she can actually hear (or even if she could read lips), she should have immediately started reacting after the first sentence. Not doing so is clearly encouraging the misunderstanding on purpose and thus dishonest/lying. I'm not saying it should be treated like the end of the world or anything, but it WAS her fault. "he's the one invading hers" Uh what? How? When?

      @gavinjenkins899@gavinjenkins8999 ай бұрын
    • @@gavinjenkins899 there's a reason she kept the fact that she could hear a secret. So technically, she's been lying the whole movie (which is true and part of the plot). He IS invading hers, because no one told him to take advantage that she's deaf to be doing all that, even if she was lying. What do you think she was supposed to do: Reveal her secret to someone who has nothing to do with her? If you were in her situation and you were also pretending to be deaf, how would you have gotten out of the situation? Also, not all deaf people know how to lip sync. She can't just outright reveal her secret to him, just because he was stupid enough to do what he did.

    • @@juliamagicals7218 "What do you think she was supposed to do: Reveal her secret to someone who has nothing to do with her?" YES, you should "reveal your secret" to EVERYONE by not being a pathological liar in the first place, of course. He would just incidentally be included among "everyone" "If you were in her situation" But I wouldn't be in her situation, because I'm a better person than that and am not a pathological liar. I respect my community which requires that I don't lie to all of them every day and betray all their trust and waste all their time. Your reasoning for how he was "invading her privacy": I have no response, because it was complete word salad. I don't know what the heck you were trying to say or argue there.

      @gavinjenkins899@gavinjenkins8999 ай бұрын
    • @@gavinjenkins899 Well, I apologize that I'm thinking about this from another perspective. (Although I can't remember this movie much anymore) I get that it was wrong of her to pretend to be deaf this whole time, but there must've been a good reason. It wasn't about being a pathological liar. Although your argument is indeed commendable, I don't fully agree with what you're saying. Not all people have the same opinion. But you do gain your points by what you said: I agree that you think she's a pathological liar and that you're a better person than her, but can I just say one thing? NO HUMAN IS PERFECT. Some are indeed better than others, that's very true, but humans are very affected by their environment. If she wasn't influenced by her backstory and some outside forces, she wouldn't have had to pretend to be deaf. I get that my argument right now might not make any sense to me in the farther future, because I'm still just a 17-year-old person who has never been out into the world yet, but this is just how I feel about it. Anyway, this is just a movie, and I only stated my opinion, and I get that you might agree with me, and that's completely fine with me because you also make sense of what you say. Not all people have the same opinions. We both seem to be looking at this from completely different perspectives, and I like the way you're thinking, it really does make sense. I tend to go a little haywire when I'm really emotional, so I do apologize if I went over the top. Anyway, it's just a movie and now that I completely forgot about it, I don't really care anymore about anything I commented or said, because in the future, if I ever go back to them, I know that they probably won't make any sense and be written in the heat of the moment. But I do still believe that although yes, she should've revealed her secret to everyone, she must've had her reasons. Since none of us are perfect anyways, no one should really judge other people for what they did wrong or right. Sometimes people don't have a choice and sometimes people are too scared to let it out, and I'm not talking about the movie at this rate, I'm talking about real life.

Autopsy shows it was a piano wire, fingerprint/DNA evidence proves it was Dot, and even faking it they'll still figure out she's the only one that touched the piano cover in the recent past in the first place. The mom could maybe try to implicate herself by forging evidence, but that defeats the purpose anyway. • I'm not the only one picking up queer undertones in Dot and Nina's relationship, right? They aren't related by blood so I feel like it's intentional and in the end they're basically free in more than one way.

  • I remember one of my friends in High school, moved to US then told how badly he was bullied, he ate lunch in the bathroom stall. It went for how many months, then coz he was the smartest in the class, he exelled too much to overcome his bullies till he graduated at the top of his class. I guess his bullies were just empty headed bastards! 😒

  • Olivia was a miserable and heartbreaking person. At least she made herself worth being a mom in the last moment when she saved her 2 girls from prison…. Also the relationship between the two sisters was so bittersweet, I have 3 older sisters myself and let me tell you, they’d do ANYTHING for me and their families.
