Before Inoue name blew up, Wood from his sparring with Inoue, stated that Inoue was going to win the WBSS and would not get a real challenge until Featherweight.

    • Wood needs to work on his feet. You can't box with your hands down and stand and trade at mid- or close-range. Warrington almost had him and would have done if he'd been a little more controlled in his aggression and a little smarter with the knock down - face the referee! But it was a great fight all the same and both men deserve a world of credit.

He actually fights like Forest play, dont have the ball, under the cosh, score on the counter. Hard to watch at times. I also love Josh Warrington, he's been stiffed a few times by officials but even if he'd had the minute, can't help feeling that would have played into Wood's plan 2nd half of fight, more gaps appearing and since he'd switched from southpaw things were steadying.

  • The stoppage seemed a bit odd, but it's the fighter's fault. You don't have your back to the referee while he's counting. He can(and he did) interpret that as a sign of mental confusion, not safe to be allowed to fight anymore. It was right at the end of the round, so the decision is debatable, but that's boxing.

That allowed him to see clearly the next two button shots, both which were perfect laser targeted punches. That’s what won him the fight. The guy was hurt bad. That said…I don’t think the ref should have stopped it. The bell had rang, the guy got up. He had a minute to recover. Not a terrible stoppage. But I don’t think it should have been done.

If that was in play, but he got up, as he did, before the 10 count, which he clearly did, then to my mind, he was okay to continue, unless he quit. I didn’t hear anything about his corner saying he was done…so in my mind, the ref pulled the trigger a little early. Arguably, he was winning the fight. A championship fight. By your thinking when Wilder laid out Fury, the ref should have stopped that fight. We know that Wilder was losing that fight, without the knock downs he definitely loses that fight on the cards. But those two knockdowns got him a draw. That was the difference in the next two fights that probably don’t happen if the fight was stopped. This guy beat the count. The round was over. He deserved the chance to start the next round…imo.

  • Cracking fight from start to finish, I thought Wood really struggled to find his rhythm, but a lot of that was down to just how explosive and dangerous Josh was boxing, mixing up his punches from body to head beautifully. But maybe just started to leave himself open the more tired he got and then BANG Wood catches him sweet, followed by a fight ending combo of delicious punches to the head and chin. Spectacular finish and end to a tremendous fight. Both guys deserve a lot of respect.

  • Personally I think the fight was stopped because of the amount of big shots Warrington took to the head in rapid succession. Had Warrington taken a knee after getting caught with the first hit, he might've been able to wait out the 8 count and go back to his corner. But instead he kept fighting, and took 4 more shots to the chin and temple. His brain got rocked 5 times in the span of 3 seconds. Repeated concussions in a short period are much more likely to cause brain bleeding than one single big shot KO

    @neyneyganeyney6046@neyneyganeyney60467 ай бұрын
    • Yep, he should have taken a knee, and yes again, danger of brain bleed through the extra shots, plus he got up too fast. Lots of errors in a short time.

    • was stopped b/c he made his way to the corner with Jelly Legs, If he had just stayed where he was to take the count while allowing his head to clear, I don't think it would have been stopped b/c the bell had already rang to end the round and he would have been more stable going to the corner and so maybe allowed to come out for next round

    • Brit refs are notorious “quick stoppage” refs. But on this occasion Warrington pretty much gave the ref no option but to stop it. He turned his bk on the ref n walked to his corner on jelly legs when knocked down but even then the ref didn’t stop it, n then Warrington carried on letting the ref count with his bk STILL turned. As Warrington was ahead on points n it was the end of the round he probably should have let him see if he cud recover n come out for the nxt round. But although I hate bad stoppages this isn’t no bad stoppage at the same level as Froch-Groves 1.

They knew Wood was most likely behind in the cards and stopped the fight. If you give the guy the minute to recover and after that he can’t continue then you stop the fight.

But since the round was over, the referee could have given Warrington a one-minute interval to continue. The timing of the stoppage was frustrating, as Warrington was winning the fight until the halfway point.
