One thing about Chen is that he doesn't have to go near the mic to be heard. He had always had that resonating voice. He said in an interview that he felt limited in his singing because, in the group, they were always given lines that suited their voices, and for him, that meant taking the lines with the highest notes. In his solo songs, you can see his wide range as an artist. I hope you can take a deep dive into his solo songs too.
Me too. I want them to discover more of Chen as a solo singer. His discography includes everything from rock to pop to ballads. They think he’s an anomaly now but I think if they heard him sing more they will have a fun time figuring out the method behind the magic of his Golden Voice :)
This is their 2nd time listening to EXO and we know this killing voice doesn't show everything that they have. So hoping that they will also take time to know more about the group and each members solo songs.

As someone who’s been to their concerts and heard them sing live multiple times, I can assure you Chen’s voice can be heard in an arena even without a mic 😂 He’s definitely holding back here.

I think what they meant is "thin voice" not small. There is thick and thin voice but it doesn't mean that a thin voice is not as good as thick voice. Good example of a thick voice in Exo is Baekhyun.

All of them have continuing singing lessons. You can really tell with Kai and also with Sehun who were arguably the weakest singers of the lot how much they have improved in tonal quality and confidence since the beginning. I didn't even know Sehun could sing at all until recently. I missed Kai in this film as I would have like ya'lls commentary, but he is serving in the military right now.
I think this goes well with his guitar analogy. Because learning is a continuous process, Baekhyun is the kinda person who never stopped at "I've learned enough" and I have sm respect for that mindset

Chen and "small" cannot go in the same sentence. In fact, Chen sings so far from the microphone that he doesn't outshine the others. I recommend that you see his vocals live. CHEN is really amazing.
100% agree with you. As i am an Exo-L for a very long time since 2014. I do love all of them equally. But my bias is always Chen for his effortless singing and such an angelic voice. I agree Baekhyun cutie pie is also a great singer, but he improved him so much from before. Here their fav is Baekhyun i am not complaining but man Chen Is Always be another level, he is incomparable.
There are nobody like DO in the KPop industry. He just stands out naturally be it his voice, face mimicks, attitude, humour u name it.. he is a rare gem! just love him to bits! ❤🎉😊
D.O. is well know to be super, super shy, that's why he's so quiet. He's trying to get out of his comfort zone, so he's taking part in variety shows and he's shown that he's hilarious when he's comfortable. He's just adorable.

As a fan of them for a long time and knows how they normally sing live, I can say that Chen (all white) is definitely trying his best to hold back on his volume here. He's even the farthest from the mic😂.

Chen has always been conscious of how loud and piercing his voice can be. He puts effort to pull back his loudness at times. Chen has a beautiful voice!

While D.O. and Baekhyun have that enveloping resonance to their voices and tones, Chen has a razor sharp voice that he can alter between being very sharp and then delicate and angelic depending on what he's singing. His voice is truly beautiful and unique.

Chase and Melia. I'm American. I'm 64 yers old and I don't know Korean but I've been stanning EXO since 2015. As voice teachers you'll agree music transcends all languages. EXO is once in a lifetime group-not just Kpop but the whole world. No one can beat them. Their vocals, their dancing, their visuals and more importantly their humility to keep improving by still taking vocal lessons despite being vocal GODS ! Their live performances beat any Grammy awards.

Istg, as chen bias, i was lowkey scared that i was over reacting on how i feel watching this, but seeing the comment section kade me realize like how many of us sees what chen is capable of and trying to let others see it also. It warms my heart so much

I've just been into Kpop since early 2000s, ever since I started watching K-Dramas & heard the music through that way. 😁 But, I still remember when these EXO boys were babies coming on the scene. Many years ago, when the 'ReacttotheK' channel brought real music students from the infamous Berklee College of Music, with a 54%! acceptance rate, started breaking Kpop songs down, was when I realized how great Chen's singing can be. Even better than Baekhyun's. 6 years ago they had classical vocalists react to Baekhyun & Chen singing on a show called "IMMORTAL VOICE" where they sang an older Korean song "Really I didn't know" and the # 1 comment on that video was about Chen, where one of those classical vocalists, i.e. Opera Singers, said "That boy got up to a fucking B!" It's no wonder the top comment on this video is about how silly it seems to have these folks critique how "small" his voice is when he not only is loud but has a wider and higher range than Baekhyun and has from the very beginning. He's just, over the years, learned to be a team player and do ONLY "his" part in the song and not to take the song over with his own vocal ability and act like a solo singer. 😉
D.O. is absolutely HILARIOUS. His seriousness just sents me off with laughing. I can never quite imagine what he's thinking with that perpetually serious/shocked face. He is an amazing singer tho!! His solo album is AMAZING!!! I'm personally not a huge fan of the music style exo has, but reaaally love DO's voice and music choice for his own music. Really recommend!!
Doh Kyungsoo (D.O.) is truly a person that I have never seen before in my life. Not only in singing, but he's a famous actor in Korea and has always been the first choice of directors. His movie " The Moon" will be released on August 2. And he even has a degree in cooking. Apart from his talents, he has a very polite and humble, kind and gentlemanly personality. He loves his parents and that's why he has fans even in old age groups and everyone wants him to be their son or son-in-law. Even though he's an idol, he has always shown his true morals and behavior and has never acted in front of the camera. Everyone admires for being simple and always being himself.

Kyungsoo's vocal really stood out to me the most. He looks so effortless in singing and I find his voice very rare. I heard quite a lot of singers but his vocal tone is too amazing that you barely hear this kind of voice in kpop. I'm not even an ExoL I'm just a casual listener. But I really can't help but to be mesmerized by kyungsoo's vocal prowess. And he really got the best healthy approach in singing. ❤

Kyungsoo's (D.O.) parts here in killing voice gave no justice to showcase more of his voice. It's always the one-liner but thank you for appreciating him. Like bruh, there is a lot here that didn't show half of their vocal abilities (maybe because of the choice of section to sing in that particular song) but thank you for the honest and expert opinions! I understood some things I was struggling to pinpoint and they were good. I hope you can listen to more of their music in the future. kudos!

D.O is definitely the second best singer in exo just right behind baekhyun and it’s very obvious to professionals! I know a lot of people like Chen’s vocal tone perhaps because it’s unique but to a professionally trained vocalist, I prefer Baekhyun and D.O’s voice for sure.

He has the best lower register of any tenor in the kpop industry, he has the best mix in the group, the widest supported range, the most consistent resonance, the best sense of pitch, and a very strong upper register. Prefer whoever’s voice you want, my favourite is Kyungsoo, but it’s widely considered *by professionals* and fans alike that Chen is the best.

Surely saying “Chen has a small voice, he would find it hard to fill a room without a mic” when the reality is the complete opposite would tip you off to the fact they’re not heralds of truth in their observations, especially when considering they’ve barely heard Exo sing and are just making surface level comments rather than doing a proper vocal analysis. Go back and look at what I said, he’s the best in 2 out of the 3 registers, has the best support etc. where do you think I pulled that information from? I didn’t just make it up. Watch and read around a bit more, you’ll quickly find that most professional vocal analyses (which examine a whole range of performances) puts Chen out in front, and almost all vocally knowledgeable fans agree with that assessment, for exactly the same reasons I gave in my first comment. Chen is undoubtedly the best, I feel like you’re not a big fan of him and are using this one video to defend your biases. I’ve given sound reasoning while all you’ve said is the people in the video (who were wrong on multiple observations) praised Baekhyun and Kyungsoo more than Chen.
The all white guy, Chen is the loudest guy in the group on or off mic. He's also got the biggest vocal range in EXO. He's definitely the golden voice as he never looses his voice even after a 6 day concert. And i believe he's controlling his pitch so that it doesn't drown out the other members voices. Do Kyungsoo aka D.O is definitely one of the most agile vocalist of kpop. His riffs and runs are heavenly. And the one you see here is just his default face and stature lmao Byun Baekhyun, the grey haired guy is has the best technique. He can effortlessly change the pitch and change from chest to head voice and vice versa. He's voice is one of my most favourite voice ever. Together, chenbaeksoo forms the holy trinity of exo vocals.

Your observation of D.O. waiting at the bus stop had me in stitches! He is also our most developed actor in the group. You should make memes of him. I was not only impressed by Chen’s outstanding vocals but also pleasantly surprised by your admiration for Baekhyun’s voice. Each member brings a unique color and set of skills to the group, truly making them the vocal kings.

Chase and Melia, I don't think you realize the full nature of Chen's voice until the last song. You need to listen to more of EXO's songs to realize what each of them can do. As everyone else said, Chen has the most powerful voice and he's the one with the highest stamina. Chen has said that it was difficult for him to sing obsession live since he was dancing non-stop for 3 min and then sing the high notes (the highest is F5) but he said he practiced it and he nailed it.
Doh Kyungsoo is just like that, he has that mysterious effect when he sings... he looks effortless even singing high notes. I stan EXO and my bias is D.O. :)

Chen(wearing all-white) actually has the loudest and widest range vocals in exo. I remember there was a video where he was warming up his voice and everyone outside can hear him singing. So PLEASE LISTEN TO HIS SOLO ALBUMS IT’S REALLY GOOD you can hear his full voice really well and you will not regret it. EXO is a group where all the members can sing and dance and almost all of them can rap too. Some of them are musical and theatre actors, ost singers(original soundtrack), and all of the are actors too. they’re just bunch of talented people.

Chen is the loudest in the group, it's so funny to me when they said SMALL to Chen's voice :) objectively you can see he's the one who stands furthest to the mic but still, he's resonant a lot, the only thing he tries to do is adjust his voice to the mic so that it will not be too loud and pierce.
Actually, without mic, Chen has the loudest and most powerful voice in the group. Also D.O. is having fun LOL! He looks like that most of the time but he's actually having fun and enjoying himself. He's also a brilliant actor. He has a movie out in August and will be shown in the US on 18 August if you want to check it out. It's called The Moon. He's the lead. You should check out D.O.'s high note in Cream Soda too. All different styles.
I am not complaining or anything, but I noticed that most of the songs are not even those that highlight D.O.'s parts Like MAMA or LOVE ME RIGHT... Was he not feeling well coz I noticed like he is facing backwards twice to cough or something like that.. Anyway, its a good thing that he was able to deliver his parts and was still praise worthy.. I agree with Chen having a golden voice. He's one of the top vocalists out there. May it be studio or live, he always have this stable, clear, & powerful vocals. Both his high and low notes for me are to die for.

It’s so easy to say that the “better sounding” voice would be the one that sounds so effortless but I think being so into this concept takes away the emotions that singers put into their music. like sometimes you just have to read the lyrics to understand why they sang it that way. Sometimes singers put so much effort into notes to emphasize the message of that song or line and not really because that’s how they would hit those notes.
gray haired guy's name is baekhyun !! 11 years after his debut and he's still taking vocal lessons to this day. he also has a solo career and it's definitely one of the best ones I've seen in kpop

Chen has an incredible voice, his vocal presence adds to the song plus 100 points. Just listen to an excerpt from "Love Shot", which is performed without Chen ( 31:51 ) and with him ( 32:04) . With Chen, it sounds much bigger and stronger. So he definitely doesn't have a small voice😑
I think they mean more of his resonance. It could also be the video’s audio mixing. His voice is very nasally and it’s not usually appealing to people who have been professionally trained.

I would say Chen might only be second to Hongki (FT Island) in terms of power. As much as I love Hongki, he tends to sing solo and doesn't really have to blend with others (in fact he said he has issues singing with others because he tends to overpower everyone). Chen not only is a such an amazing soloist but really knows how to use his voice in terms of singing with Exo. JYP is another singer who is guilty of what Hongki does - blasting at full volume at all times.
I agree, since his voice originally had a wide range it's actually hard to control it lower but if you let him sing freely and solo he will kill it all.

As a Chen bias myself I feel some people in the comments didn’t watch the entire video? Like they did praise him and even complimented on how easily he made it in some high notes. I feel like due to chen vocal range he’s often given the higher or more belty lines because he can do it with much more ease. That’s why you really don’t see his vocal range in a group setting as much as you do in his solo work. They never said they didn’t like his voice just that it looked strained so it was out of a place of concern if anything. Like if someone tries imitating chen they might do more harm to their voice than good. And this is only their second time watching them as a group. And it’s hard to get a totally grip on someone range and vocal tendencies especially when their in a group setting. I always enjoy chase and melia’s breakdown and can’t wait for them to see more exo, and it be awesome to see them check out Chen’s solo work too!

It's the fact that they say at one point in the video that they're experts. But they kept making assumptions early in the video that were just wrong. But wouldn't experts be able to tell though? Appreciate they backtracked towards the end, but it just seemed like his voice was out of their comprehension tbh.

One thing about Chen is that he doesn't have to get close to the microphone to be heard. In fact, Chen was singing so far from the microphone that he didn't outshine on the others. I remember when Monsta X did live in the waiting room and the next room was the exo room, chen was singing so loud that it could be heard to Monsta x room.
Jongdae has the actual loudest most powerful voice out of all of them 😅it's kinda crazy to hear people seriously thinking he would have a small voice. We've been hearing him for over 10 years live and also without mic... If anything Jongdae has and had to turn it down so you hear anyone else. Never heard anyone anywhere say that 😂

I was thinking the same thing, how can they say that Chen has a small voice? When they sing together in this video, Chen’s voice is so loud that it stands out. But then again, it’s understandable that they doesn’t recognize his voice alone since they only heard few songs from him but to us EXOLs who knows EXO’s individual voices and even their laughter, we could easily recognize Chen’s powerful voice there. I was waiting for them to praise Chen, since Kyungsoo and Baek was praised from the start, and in the end they just realized that maybe he is one of those with the golden voice, and that’s it, finally. Actually no, Chen (the gentleman in the white outfit) is the loudest member. He's the one that best projects his voice and fills large spaces without the need of a microphone. You're right when you say it sounds very piercing, his voice is naturally that way. He himself has said that his voice is naturally high and loud so when he speaks he tries to lower his tone cause people around him tend to be surprised and also attracts a lot of attention. I think it's like what you say, he has a golden voice because out of all the EXO members he is actually the best singer with the most ease, technique and range. Although the difference is minimal, EXO is a group full of strong vocalists who are constantly practicing and developing their skills even after more than 10 years in the industry.

@@gigisnippets6525 they’re professionals and they are “assuming” those things because many times singers that approach their voice in a similar way to chen aren’t as powerful as some other people, in chen’s particular case that doesn’t happen that’s why they got surprised when he was able to hit that note without any sign of difficulty, and if you payed attention you would have noticed that in the end melia even referred to him having a “golden throat”, which is a term used to people that even when they don’t use their voice the most “efficient” way are able to sing greatly for hours and hours straight still sounding very good (edit): oh and they deleted their comment
They weren’t criticizing him badly though, that doesn’t sound like it’s coming from his body wasn’t a negative in my opinion. And if you got to the end, they mentioned he probably has the golden voice… they mention things according to their professional knowledge and what is normally good for them, and it seems to them that chen’s vocals does not fit into that mold - and that’s not a bad thing, as there will always be good exceptions. just because he can sing a long time without getting worn out doesn't mean his technique is the best. he definitely has a tight sound and has to work really hard which is why he is better at loud high notes when it's easier to push air through and, like they said, he doesn't sing softly very well in comparison which is why his vibrato gets so choppy. he has improved a lot since the early days of exo but listening to him used to kind of exhaust me for these reasons. i'm a singer btw so like i know what it feels like to make those sounds.

@@breensprout i disagree that he doesn't sing well softly. have you heard some of his solo songs? to give you an example of his songs Good Night, Amaranth, Hold You Tight just to name a few. i literally play this to help me sleep. & this is what Chen talks about on his few interviews that since he sings a lot of the high notes on EXO songs, that most people typecast/categorized him as just that singer who just do high notes well but he's more than that.

D.O has always been this unbothered we love him like that. The funny thing though, is that he never missed a group performance because he said he hates when they have to re-arrange vocals and choreo because of missing members, so he always has his solo activities at times when it doesn't clash with group ones. Hi guys, big EXO-L here! Thank you so much for reacting to their Killing Voice episode. ☺️ Would highly recommend listening to Chen’s solo music, as well as watching his solo live performances. I love all of their voices, but Chen arguably has the most developed voice in terms of technique at this point in their career. In my opinion, because of how naturally sharp and pointy his voice is, he has trained his instrument to be able to reach those insane high notes (which are within his natural range) with fullness and stability, without exhibiting strain. The true fullness of his voice can be heard in his solo music. And nope, he does not have a small voice live 😂 I’ve watched him sing live 10 times over the years, and his ability to project his voice whilst maintaining stability and controlling pitch is insane.
