Got a 2013 with 300,000 miles on it that’s never been washed with anything but Dawn and it still has paint on it.
I'm that system works for you
Do you wax after every wash? What is your method? Thanks.
@@BaptistJoshua no, I’ve never waxed it. I have sprayed it with some quick detailer a handful of times but never much more than that. It’s a work truck, it has some chips on it here and there from rocks and stuff hitting it but it looks good for 11 years old.
@@oneshot000123 Thank you.
The blow dry was a nice touch. Of course the car wasn't dirty. Point noted about "stripping grease of the car" because the wax also comes off. So no more dawn for me, unless right after comes a rewax (which is a make work project). If it affects clear coat, then it's pointless to use it. Thanks for the info!
My pleasure
I use dish soap for stripping old waxes/coatings, after that I wash it with ph neutral car shampoo. Then I apply new wax. Has worked for me, but dish soap is not definitely for regular maintenance washing. Haven't tried it with foam cannon yet, looks fun tho.
That works 👍
I use Dawn when I am applying graphic and lettering to vehicles. It does a great job at removing dirt, grime, wax, sealant etc. I will say as well that its not a product to use to wash a vehicle, more of a prep type of soap.
I can dig that idea👍
It's not even a good prep wash. Use an acid or alkaline pre-wash.
Thank you Sir 🙌🏼 I was but that’s why I’m here and now I won’t. I new follower Kudos Grasshopper Thank Again
Glad the video was helpful 👍
Lol...I used to use Joy on my cars including tire shine. I've come a long way.
I think we all started in a place where we probably had dish soap going on the cars and our bath towels to dry. We all came a long way 🙂
Was a little worried that the dawn was gonna strip the coating lol. It did great
Yeah definitely did a good job. Not something I'm going to use all the time. Behavior in a pension your car is covered and bird sh*t go for it lol
If a coating can’t stand up to Dawn there would be no point spending all the time and/or money on it.
@@seashackf1 agreed. But repeated use of the wrong soap vs right soap will create a difference say 3 years from now
Moral of the story: don’t use dawn if you never plan to wax your car ever again.
I'm not seeing the logic here. Most people using Dawn don't even wax. But if they did, it wouldn't remove the wax. That is a wives tale. Waxes and sealants are much more durable than you think.
If you have a matte finish on your vehicle its the best soap going for washing the surface and of course it's cheap. Course the makers of the expensive stuff don't want you to know that. as long as its got a pretty neutral or alkaine ph7 and above its gonna work great on matte.
That's interesting. Still wouldn't be great for your ceramic.
How about for before applying new sealant or coatings?
It can work for that. I'd personally use soaps like carpro descale. And or iron x and clay etc vs just dish soap. But it's definitely a nice strong soap to assist in decon if that's what your going for
@@STATUSDETAIL Thanks for the info man, I plan on just using dawn instead of car soap with my wash mitt before I decon with a clay mitt and move through the paint correction process
@@Redawesomeoby whatever your comfortable with 👍
If you had a ton of dishes to clean this would be excellent!!!
If you eat on your car it will kill two birds with one stone lol
@@STATUSDETAIL haha, true!!!
ONLY use if you drive through an oil spill with your uncoated unprotected car with no wax sealant or ceramic on it. ..or if it's part of your decon strip wash process and you're wanting to remove the wax on pupose. and it's better than not washing your car at all or dry wiping it with no lubrication. 👍
Agreed
It's time to stop pretending dish soap is some kind of paint bomb. It isn't even a good "strip wash". Use an acid or alkaline pre-wash if that's what you're going for.
Used dawn it don't hurt your paint. You just gotta used a washcloth and towel dry it.... results will be vastly different if you take the proper steps....
Your the expert 👍
I used to use dawn. But one day my car fell into a pile of parts. Completely destroyed. Beware!
Lol
You tricked me, I was sure you were gonna say "The only time you should use dawn dish soap on your car is when... you have food stuck to the paint" ;)
That is accurate lol. If you eat a steak on your hood... Wash with dawn lol.
@@STATUSDETAIL Then call you for scratch removal from the steak knife :)
@@Calendyr lol!
I use my leaf blower to dry
Perfect 👍
Thumbs up for S2k
Thumbs up for also being an Evan 🙂👍
Seems a bit biased. What are you using that will remove days-old water spots just by spraying it on and then rinsing? Honestly, I would like to know.
Why do you have day old water spots? Real water spots require acid based water spot removers. Like carpro spotless. That only happens when washing with high mineral content water from your hose. Or nasty water from like leaking water from a parking deck that's concrete Try gyeon foam or Carpro lift. But this is your second comment and you seam to like dish soap so anything I say probably won't change your mind. I recommend you use what your comfortable with 👍
@@STATUSDETAIL There were water spot on YOUR car in this video after you rinsed it. Rain and hard water will cause water spots. You can get water spots off with wax or detail spray, you dont need acid-based water spot remover.
@@azraell33 I think we have different ideas of what a true water spot is. A car with ceramic sealant or wax or ceramic will bead water. If it rains you will typically see what your describing as water spots. Basically any soap will remove this. "Water spots* by my definition are mineral deposits from hard water and are not washed away easily or at all. Your simply talking about dirt that dried after a water drop evaporated. Either way if your foaming with dish soap and rinsing and that's your only process because you think your dish soap is superior then god bless. You have a system i guess. This video isn't designed to change the mind of a person like yourself that clearly has a system they enjoy. It's for people that don't have a system in place and need help setting one up. I don't recommend dish soap. Thanks for watching 👍
The entire idea of foam cannons being a “touch less” wash - is dumb.
Yes. Contact is best and contact is best with lubrication from foam
I saw a baby through the reflection :)
Lol must have been my daughter.
I also pay attention to details :). Subscribed
If it can clean birds trapped covered in oil it should work on your car.
Lol. Technically dawn works. You can technically use any cleaner within reason on your car. Like don't use brake cleaner obviously lol. You can clean a entire car with toilet bowl cleaner lol. I just don't recommend that process lol.
It just degrades protection over time, can take multiple washes it has new protection.
That's about right. It's to harsh on rubber and trim pieces in my opinion too
Why?
Why did I make this? Why can't you use dawn? Why do I detail cars or run a KZhead channel? I'm not sure what I'm answering here but I'm pretty sure the video explains it all besides the last one lol
it's soap. of course you can
Id use specific car soup 👍
There is no way Dawn can affect a ceramic coating.😊
One time. Sure. Every wash. I disagree
@@STATUSDETAIL then let's think about how that would work. A ceramic coating is basically glass.
@@ericfranke1637 if forget to brush your teeth one day. Nothing happens. If you forget for years bad things happen. Similar concept. A few dawn dish soap washes are no big deal. But one a week for years won't be great for your ceramic. If you disagree your welcome to try it out. I would recommend against it
@@STATUSDETAIL then explain Carpro Lift and other high pH washes. We should avoid them all then.
@@ericfranke1637 dish soap and lift are different. If you think they are the same then start washing your dishes with lift. I also don't use lift on every wash unless a car is very dirty or has a specific dirt or contamination that will benefit from lift. A pre foam and dish soap are not the same thing.
I never knew you weren't supposed to Scouring powder on a car. Then again, that's not exactly something you'd think to grab when car washing. Usually, the first thing that i think of when washing anything is soap and water. 😂😂😂
Scouring powder? No idea what this comment is about lol
Sooooo water spots?? Don’t have anything to do with a soaps performance. were you even using di water?????? I didn’t hear you mention that.
No do water in this video. Not sure what context of the video your talking about. If I remember correctly I'm talking about the foam step ability to remove water spots left over from rain. So not hard water. Just like dirty water that evaporated leaving dirty round water spots. Hopefully that helps clarify
@@STATUSDETAIL got I I understand that.
Dawn themselves recommended using their soap on cars...it is perfectly safe and non abrasive.
Use whatever you like if you feel that strongly about it lol
@@STATUSDETAIL I only wash my car like 3-4 times a year and do a full detail every two. Dawn may not be the *best for car washing but it's not going to strip your clear coat or do any damage like other abrasive soaps can do.
@@GSP-76 we disagree on a lot of things lol. I'm guessing you haven't watched any of my videos except for this one. As I said previously do whatever makes you happy and whatever works for you.
@@STATUSDETAIL Dawn dish soap is pH neutral just like any good car soap. It's non abrasive which means it's not going to damage your clear coat. Is it better than soap designed for washing cars? Hell no, not even close. I agree if you are a car enthusiast, you should stay away from it as there are many better options out there...my only point was to say it won't damage your car like other dish soaps would, that's all. You should do a video showing those water spots you had with Dawn and then one of your preferred car soaps to show the difference.
@@GSP-76 use whatever you like for as long as you like 👍
Car shampoo company discouraged you from using dish washing soap coz it will bankrupt their business plain and simple. I've been washing my vehicle with dawn dish washing soap 2008 until now 2024 still very very shinny. Dawn dishwashing soap combined it with turtle wax spray wax and a harbor freight 10 inch corded buffer your vehicle will look like brand new. This is based on experience not theory.
Harbor freight buffer you say ...
Use Shampoo...it won't strip the wax! Lol
Maybe some conditioner after?
@@STATUSDETAIL If you wish. Or just use 2-1..
This was such a difficult video to watch, way too much product. Not everything has to be super foamy to be effective.. I have a white BMW. The best thing to get bugs off is Dawn, 1/2 oz a spay bottle with water and a microfiber towel gets then right off.
If you had a black car you likely would be using a different approach
Lmao I been using dish soap for year these soaps been out before all these wax and hyro cleaners which some of them aren't good for your cars clear coat dish soap removed dirt and grease yes it will leave water marks but that's why you use a detail wash sponge or microfiber cloth to wash the body with the foamed dish soap it cleans the car then dry with clean microfiber cloth then you put the wax on.
As mentioned it definitely works. If you don't have wax or anything. Then dish soap works. I wouldn't recommend it on any ceramic coated surfaces. Unless you got covered in something nasty but better products are available for that as mentioned in video. If you disagree use dawn. I don't care lol
exactly why use those over priced strip washes that barely work when dawn is $5, works better, i always dry and follow up with a spray wax, i realized my car needs less claying than people who buy into the PH neutral hype those soaps barely break down dirt. Not saying use it as a go to everytime product but defintely works well
XD
👍
The primary ingredient in dawn is sulfuric acid. The same ingredient in other well know two step washes. This is a pretty Worthless video with zero basis.
Use whatever you like. Try oven cleaner on your wheels maybe.
@@STATUSDETAIL lol
