Ruwen Filus is actually one of the best defenders in table tennis.
Really?
Yes. And when we talk about the "attack vs defense" playing style, it's very beautiful.
In general, attack versus defense is amazing to watch. And this game is one of the best games, that I've watched. It's very similar to the legend game between Ma Long, and Joo Sae-hyuk.
This game is the European Championships 2015. Semi-final Germany vs France.

  • Ruwen is one of the best defenders but he played really poorly in this match. The best defender in the WTTCs was Wang Yang, he was playing amazing especially against Gausy. Unfortunately the WTT forced him sit out so that Boll would not lose to a defender and would earn a medal.

    • @@stancst8406 Despite him producing 3 negative tests and being the only player required to quarantine in the whole tournament. You can't tell me that the person he came into contact with contacted NO ONE else, or that zero other players had a positive case or came into contact with one. Wang crushed Gauzy and the WTT didn't want to see it continue because they don't like Wang. Timo Boll is also their money maker and they had to make sure that their star who was too injured to loop at the end of the tournament didnt have to try to get loops past a defender and look bad. Gotta get that Bronze for Timo. They never promote Wang, rarely show or discuss his matches, and have selectively applied rules to him at times and while letting things go for others.

    • At a pro level yes. However, at any level that isn't really advanced, most players will not be as consistent at looping heavy backspin, making defence very viable.
