- Ep.316: Today’s episode welcomes Comedienne Kim Seunghye, Jin, and Jimin of BTS. Joining the show are a frustrated wife whose husband spends all day watching television programs about health and a middle school student who is obsessed with stuffed animals. Another story involves a troubled 20-year- old girl who ran away from home and now lives with her aunt.

He's confident about his looks but he feels insecure when he tries new things like when they did the puma commercial he said he wasn't confident wearing a beanie because he's not used to wearing it.

This is exactly true. Jimin is intuitive and very intellectually intelligent and empathic as a human being. It is clear that his father's assessment about his character, smarts and respect for elders plus likelihood of succeeding in whatever he put his mind to was spot on. His gorgeous flirty appearance hides a much deeper mindful sensitive personality. He knew how to share advice without belittling the girl.

Jin knows when to be funny and when to stop and be serious.. Seokjin’s so entertaining.. he knows how to engage his audience and hosts.
The audience didn't really seem to understand why Jin and Jimin gave those compliments but they both had reasons, they weren't just random. Jin complimented her skin so much because the girl had mentioned how she always got bullied and teased for having darker skin. Jimin complimented her eyes because the aunt had told them that the girl had called them small and ugly before. Those two are angels. Also, I understand that the MC's were trying to make it light hearted but they should of taken it a tad bit more serious. The girl in the pink jacket CLEARLY had many problems, from the throwing up, to being bullied, to her dad abusing her. I was disgusted on how they used that joke on her throwing up, it was something along the lines of 'Oh wow, maybe I should try throwing up' because the girl was very skinny. And you could see how furious Jimin was at that guy for saying he cared more about his plushies than his sister. Honestly, the MC's took the plushie one more seriously than the girl in the pink jacket (and they didn't even take it that seriously). Sorry, I just really needed to express my feelings and I know that this was made ages ago
couldn't agree more, it was sickening and you could clearly see jin & jimin's discomfort. im thankful they gave her those specific compliments, it's obvious she needed them, more than ever♡ though her mum seemed to genuinely be concerned, her aunt came off as self absorbed. i get her wanting more help, especially since she supports her niece to such an extent, but her dismissive attitude towards her niece's signs of depression... just, uugh. what truly infuriated me, was people laughing at the dad's attempt to "love" his daughter. just by her body language alone, there is something much more disturbing going on with that and it should have been taken seriously. this show was some time ago and i sincerely hope this girl has escaped her fucking toxic environment and is in a healthier state of mind 💔
I totally agree in my opinion BTS would make great mc's as they understand these problems and try their level best to help other ppl
i noticed that too im so glad they take everything the discuss into consideration
and jimin had weight loss issues in the past (meaning he was trying to lose weight but it wasnt healthy, not he couldnt loose weight) so he may have thought that throwing up is her way to loose weight which is a very good possibility.

AyakoSapphirePhoenix I think him, Jin and Hobi are probably the most emotionally complex. Not to say the others aren't but these three were mostly hated on so they learn to be nice and funny ( jin and his jokes, hobi and his randomness, jimin and his kindness ) but they think in a different way and are matured. It's really good to see them as they are now, confident and successful :)

i think this girl has depression and she is not lazy.When i had depression ( 1 year ago) i slept 14 hours and i was in school from time to time ,i was not helping my mom she was angry at me all the time ,but even normal, everyday things were hard for me ( eating, washing, meeting friends) plus i had social anxiety ...so i understand her (sorry for my english )

true. i just think there was some deeper problem in this case. I'm also not satisfied with the dad. the way she instinctively withdrew whenever he tried to make contact was painful to watch. also i feel sorry for the aunt for being caught up in this. still doubtful over her dad though what with lying about having a woman's heart.
yeah I agree, he seemed to be playing the loving father and that he was just bad at expressing himself, but the expressions of the girl and her reactions when he spoke suggests that he was lying or hiding something..

v v This was my problem too! elementary to high school I had no motivation for anything due to depression and anxiety. I would always get lectured by my mom for being lazy and I used to skip school a lot up until high school which would get me in trouble. People just thought I was lazy but even the easiest tasks drained me to no end so living like a normal student was hard on me. I've seen improvement after I graduated though. I clean my room and vaccum it each week, clean my hamsters cage each week, wash the dishes and make dinner a couple times a week and shower regularly (all of this on top of working and being a full time student). It seems like nothing and just normal and easy tasks but for someone with depression even showering everyday requires lots of motivation. It's seriously awful :(

People reacted quite well to Jimin's comment, but I would like to leave a side note of what Jin said: he spoke of her skin, since she said she had a lot of insecurities. It just shows how attentive and caring he is. That's why i support them, they were really listening to her problems.

I wish beyond this show, these people (especially the girl with the glasses), saw proper therapists to help them work through their issues. The hosts made some very salient observations on the behavioral patterns of their guests. However, even though this is a good starting point because it brings to surface ways the guests never imagined they were hurting their loved ones, they clearly have more deep-rooted concerns that need to be unravelled beyond the 15 minutes of entertainment they give in these shows. Props to Jin and Jimin for their contributions as well. I came to watch this video because of them

I'm like this with my parents too unfortunately. I didn't receive much affection or positive attention growing up, so it feels very unnatural now if they try to touch or hug me (I'm even in my late 20s now and the feeling hasn't faded)

Honestly, Jin and Jimin were the only ones that actually took the problems into consideration and gave good advice. You can plainly see how concerned and uncomfortable they are, while the other hosts just laugh off these very serious problems. Hyebin very likely has been abused by her father - she flinched really hard away from him, and we only know one instance of abuse, but there could be a lot more - and could have severe mental issues that cause her to be so anxious and have such low self esteem, probably depression, and all they can say is that she should just be more confident, and maybe they should start throwing up too. That's just terribly insensitive. I love how Jin and Jimin made a point of complimenting the very things she was insecure about - her skin and eyes. With the boy who loves plushies more than his own family, everyone just laughed about it, made him apologize, and talked more about his plushies and acting goals than the actual problem - he treats his inanimate toys better than his living family. I could see that Jimin was absolutely furious, and his and Jin's advice actually addressed the problem, and tried to correct him.

The fact that jin did actually broke the tension and we could see the girl starting to get a slight panic attack and his joke just calmed her down. I think jin understands her position because he himself says that when people directly pay attention to him, his ears get red and I think he sensed that the girl was getting very uncomfortable with all the attention on her. I really applaud Jin for that.

whenever the father would say a lie about not hitting his daughter she would discreetly shake her head no. Wow Jimin stare when he is angry...I think exactly like jimin, if the guy think plushies torn are worse than his own sister getting hurt, the problem is him and need to take responsibility and work on it ...clearly his priorities are mess up and a fake forced apology dont gonna fix that for none of the parties involved, Jimin sum it up real well.
tbh jimin was the most useful one in this episode. He actually thought over the problems and gave good advice even if it could seem harsh. You'd also notice he was immediately ready to compliment the girl about her eyes bc her aunt previously said she had called them ugly and small.
Jimin needs a counseling show. He's so good w helping ppl face their problems and he's good at building self esteem.

Its sad seeing that Jin and Jimin were the only ones who actually tried to problem solve especially when it came to the second girl you can see how worried the both of them are and when the others laughed they mostly stayed straight face. International fans seem to misunderstand this show : this is not an actual counseling session. This is a competition. People come, talk about their problem, those who have it the worst win and receive money. This is what the show is about. This is a weird and questionable concept, and it gets very problematic when it involves kids who most likely can't refuse to go with their family or don't realize what they are exposing themselves to, but the people participating are not going to that show expecting meaningful help or life-changing advices. The cast and the guests are not there to identify which mental issues people are dealing with nor to provide in-depth advices to families who are struggling. None of them is qualified to do that as there are no counselor among them. The fixed cast is there to entertain and the guests are there to give a few words of advice or encouragement and to vote for who they think have it the worst. I am saying this because a lot of people here are commenting on the fact that the guests failed to realize that the first man might have ocds, that the second girl could be depressed and that the last boy might have been neurodivergent, but the truth is that none of the guests should be making that kind of assumptions in the first place (and if we're being realistic: we, viewers in the KZhead comments, also shouldn't). They are idols and actors guesting on an entertainment show, they can't and shouldn't be diagnosing anyone based on the stories shared on set. Stories that are meant to give context and entertain more than they are meant to be interpreted (because again, this is not a real counseling session). Some of those stories are most likely not even true, former participants have revealed that they were requested to exaggerate and lie for drama or comedic purposes. Hello Counselor was, like any other variety show from KBS, a scripted show at the end of the day. That is not to say those issues shouldn't be taken seriously (they should, making jokes out of them - even if they're exaggerated or fake - just contributes to trivializing serious topics) or that the cast is blameless, but them only giving 'surface' advice and not commenting on the possible mental illnesses of the participants is just what they are supposed to do. Leave the diagnosis to the actual counselors the participants were supposedly encouraged to consult (according to the producers of the show).

I feel like yoongi is the best person to be on this show because he has researched a lot about psychology and knows how to tackle such situation with those people making jokes..I like how Jin and Jimin stayed quiet to not make jokes in such sensitive matters because they require professional help and actually gave good advice when needed. They have an empathetic nature especially Jimin, the rest were so insensitive.

I love Youngja. Many times, I feel like she's the only one of the MCs who actually understands the guest's struggles but refrains from speaking out much maybe because the other MCs clearly have different opinions, or because it's a variety show. Her empathy makes these episodes easier to watch for me. I feel like I can relate to the 2nd girl so much and what Youngja said about parents needing to apologize sometimes in order for the children to be released from their personal cages touched me.

I really don't like how they reduced the second problem to just being about a "lazy niece" and just blew past the whole being beat with a fishing rod. Maybe I'm being sensitive because I relate to her in many ways, I used to wear masks, and have social anxiety, and a lot of health problems so everything she said really hit home for me. I just can't stand how they didn't realize that the main problem was the stress from family life and being bullied. There's a lot of problems she has to work out and it's hard to be a fully functional human being with mental problems and low self esteem. No one gave her good advice besides respect your aunt and raise your self esteem, they really didn't do her justice.

yun fang I'm not shocked about the beating as discipline cuz that's pretty standard world wide. Do I agree with it? No. What I had a problem with was that they ignored the real issue and gave her bullshit solutions. She said she had anxiety due to stress or something like that and they basically berated her and told her "oh just don't be anxious just raise your self esteem" as if it was that easy and she was just choosing to have mental issues.
yun fang I know a lot of countries do discipline their kids. My family is also asian, but to the extent of beating your daughter with a fishing pole til it breaks is really out there. My parents disciplines us, usually getting the occasional slap or so. I think the major thing to me was that she was flinching away from her dad and that is concerning to me. I mean your parents discipline you for being rude or disrespectful, but I think her dad has underlying anger issues. I think i am not surprised that he disciplined her, but i think he went too far! ( I respect your perspective though :) )
I think that they couldn't talk about the dad issues because the help was asked by the aubtt and theu had to acknowledge things related to that but I still agree with you though.

First time watched this in full. Wow, still can't get over how perfect Jin is for variety shows, BTS' own or others! He knows how to act & what to say so naturally yet entertainingly, no wonder Run BTS! is one of the best now. And all the variety shows hosts, guests & audience simply fell in love with him--Lee Kyung Kyu, Na PD, Chef Baek Jong Won, Florist Isaac Kim, the tennis coaches, the pro-gamers. Now we know Jin's alternative future career, besides acting, post-BTS!
You could tell that Jimin was genuinely mad and disappointed with the older brother’s actions. He himself has a younger sibling and he barely even gets to spend time with him, let alone see him, so him seeing something like this I see why he’s mad. I would be too honestly. He’s worried about their relationship and how this habit of the older brother affects his sister.

Everyone who's saying that they want to punch the guy or who's angry with him: etc.Please, STOP IT! I don't think it's his fault. If you think about what he said, he felt really lonely before being attached to plushies and he didn't have anyone to spend time with, and plushies were the only things giving him the time and company that his parents or anyone did not give him. Also, most of the plushies are really important to him because of the people that gave them to him (his grandma, his cousin). I seriously think that he developed this because of lack of attention/lack of emotional support from his parents. The fact that a lot of people were laughing at him made him feel really uncomfortable and I don't think they should have dealt with it in a funny way, although I understand that they tend to do this for entertaining purposes, but it could acc hurt someone, especially because this show is aired internationally. Of course, I do think that he should value his sister more etc. but I also think that his parents should try to give more time to him and also talk to him more and empathise more instead of scolding him when he doesn't do well in exams or also stopping him from playing with plushies by force!! They should do it slowly and if it doesn't work contact a professional, because I think that it is to do with mental health. ALSO, I DONT THINK JIMIN WAS ANGRY/OR ABOUT TO PUNCH THE GUY. I THINK HE WAS QUITE SERIOUS ABOUT THE ISSUE AND HE KNEW IT WAS TO DO WITH MENTAL HEALTH, THE ONLY THING HE THOUGHT WAS INCORRECT WAS THE WAY HE TREATED HIS SISTER, which I also think was inappropriate. This is my first time ever watching this show, i clicked on it because i saw Jimin and Jin thinking it would be some very fun show but ended up crying feeling terribly bad for the girl with the pink jacket. It seems like only the mother in her family actually feels bad after recognizing her problems. This girl has had a very rough childhood and she opened up about it only for the other hosts to say to be less "lazy". I wish they knew that she's not being lazy, just that a lot of things have happened which caused to the way she acts right now. Even though she was 20 back then, doesn't mean that she has an actual grip on her life. I'm only 19 and I've been struggling too to hold myself together. Even though her and I both live in different countries with different cultures etc doesn't hold back the fact that kids these days don't have it easy. I wish that people like her parents, aunt and some of these hosts would finally realise that. This girl came to the show to make herself a better person but some of the comments they made to her are so demotivating. I don't know if she'll every see my comment but if she does I wanna tell her that I'm proud of her and I hope after 4 years this came out you're feeling better :) also, I'm really not sure how to feel about serious topics like these are being talked about openly on tv shows like this, people making jokes about the situation to only maybe give other the impressions that this isn't a serious problem ;-; here ends my paragraph lol hope y'all have a good day :,)

Jimin said after the show that he enjoyed it more because Jin was there and had chemistry with the other hosts. We all know Jimin laughs the most at Jin's dad jokes. He may have been a little embarrassed but he knows how Jin is and I think he had way more fun than embarrassment.

The second story was really serious, and the fact that everyone was laughing and thinking that was a simple thing makes me angry. C'mon, the girl clearly didn't want to be touched from her father. Also, when she said that he beated her with an object UNTIL IT BROKE my heart skipped a beat. She is OF COURSE scared of everything. And the aunt wasn't helpful at all, she was there only to talk about herself. The girl isn't lazy, she is DEPRESSED. He's an ABUSIVE father. They didn't have to make jokes about it, it's a serious problem. Don't be surprised if she escaped from that house and she eats that much.
I sometimes hate shows like this, i feel even though this is a counselor show, the one being counseled is not being taken care of, the mc would just cracked jokes about her bulimia ,bulimia is a serious problem and is not to be taken lightly of

Also, when they talked about the guy who had a lot of stuffed animals... do they think that someone who doesn't has a problem, talks with a stuffed animal at that age? Clearly that's also a psychological problem, he needs a serious support and not someone who thinks that he is an idiot. I dunno if it's a cultural thing or something like that, but we need to think that someone who is different from us is not necessary a freaking weirdo. Inspiring my Infires i will tell a fact. People that are old were educated in another form that now it's viewed as a bad way of parenting, but for those old people it's the way they shaped their sons/daughters to be the best they could be, at least at the parent eye. My own parents are old, and they would hit me if i said a swear word to them or did something bad, and i know kids that get away with saying whore to their moms and doing things way over their age. I'm not defending the people that hit their child, not saying that i think it's correct. I'm just saying that they don't hit them 'cause they hate them and want to abuse them.
