Self assembly kit from EngineDiyShop. Ticking along nicely now.
Initial issue with some steam leaking past whistle valve.
The pressure relief valve should operate when coming up to full pressure before you open the steam vavle to the engine. It's important to open the steam valve very carefully to get optimal running. If you open it too far, you lose too much steam and the model will stop.
Alignment of the beam is critical and that is expalined in the instructions.
I tested on compressed air and the engine will run on about 3psi.
At the speed shown here, the centrifugal governor is not actually doing anything, it only begins to regulate at about double this speed and tends to oscillate a bit. I may try a weaker spring on it.
It's a lovely kit, very easy to assemble and looks like a much more expensive steam plant model. Just needs some copper tube to replace the silicone hose, a pressure gauge and maybe a small dynamo and lamp. I may also replace the small pins that are used in the linkages with small nuts and bolts as these are just copper wire that has been squashed at one end.
