Junk PlayStation PS1 Restoration and Customisation - Arctic White Edition
Normally when restoring consoles I like to get them back to as close to factory condition as possible, but for a change this time I decided to do something a little different.
In this video I restore a Sony PlayStation 1 (bought as faulty from Ebay), paint it white and install a new bright white power LED and new black decals.

Lots of people have been asking about the paper used for the decals. This isn't normal paper, it's called "waterslide" paper and there are different versions available for both laser and inkjet printers. Here are some Amazon links:- Decal Paper for Laser Printer - amzn.to/3JfsamR Decal Paper for Inkjet Printer -amzn.to/4axd6Nb As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases If you're using an Inkjet printer, you should spray a transparent clearcoat on top of the decals after printing and before applying them. The Laser decals should be ok without a clearcoat.
Thank you! Can you give us a link where you found the decals to print? I'm looking for some specific ones.
I made them myself in Photoshop. The font is called Zrnic.
the white LED for the power supply was such a nice touch
I went in to this video thinking he was gonna just replace the whole shell with a white one he bought online and completely defeat the point of the restoration, but I was pleasantly surprised that he did the paint job and decals himself. Very very nice.
Someone send this to DK oldies cause this is what refurbishment looks and if they did this or even half of this I’d gladly pay too dollar for a pristine product like this
You'd pay 400 dollars for a ps1? Ouch.
@@Super_Death nah i went to good will and bought a broken 1 for $20 and fixed it myself, but if DK Oldies did this type of of refurbishment I’d gladly pay more for one
@@richardford8729If DK Oldies did this, they would only be able to deliver less than 1% consoles to costumers, also, this is not even a refurbish video, this is a restoration video, the purpose here is just to entertain, how many hours do you think it took to make this restoration? The video was edited
@@Marinho965 Be honest if you knew you getting a top tier product like this and DK Oldies specified that there be a waiting period between refurbishment/restoration. Then wouldn’t you find it worth the wait. If you want a console that works great go to goodwill/mom and pop shops and get the console that way, but since DK Oldies charges top dollar for sometimes broken and shotty consoles why should a person pay that. Not every console needs a restoration Some just need some elbow grease and nice cleaning I clean my console myself and try my best refurbish, so the argument that only 1% of consoles will make it out is a no offense stupid argument
@@richardford8729True.
Paint will keep that plastic from being brittle later on. Nice rebuild man ! Looks better than the other kind of restorations!
I'd love to see a glossy finish on that white coating
absolutely incredible! I had no idea a white ps1 would look this good, and the white LED plus the simple black labels are such a fine touch as well. Great final product as a whole!
Frost white PS1 remarkable and white LED nice touch
i LOVE when people take playstation 1s that are faulty/scrap (for most people sadly) and save em, fix them or repurpose. im working on a custom one rn that had a dead laser and case was half yellow, perfect for it :)
Just a perfect hand made restoration. Congrats for the attetion for the details. Love it!
That looks amazing! The white shell looks so clean and bright!
Me personally I love the ps1 gray but this is wonderful
Looks great but why white ? If you're restoring it
damn, amazing work, the white LED was such a great idea
Excelente trabajo, quedo muy bien =)
Awesome job!
Thanks!
Hehehee, it's nice seeing that this PS1 was possibly a Czech distribution (or our EU region at least), cause you can see the high current warnings in Czech on the bottom sticker.
Nice job!!!
Thanks!
Did you use gloss paint or flat? Looks amazing btw! Also if you dont mind. Where can i get the exact stick on padding you used. I dont know what size to search up
Nice job! What size did you use for the decal's?
Bonjour utilisez vous un papier special pour le transfert de logo ? Merci tres beau travail
Beautiful...
Valeu amigo
damn I didnt realize you can print new logos on regular A4 paper and just glue it on... tthanks!!
It's actually Waterslide Decal Paper
Since your comment, they linked the product in the comments.
Amazing.
Nice! 😎🤙🏻
Looks gorgeous!
please explain how you applied the logo and text? could you be more specific
now that's a restoration!
This is the best and most beautiful restoration that I have seen, doing close to the original, what about PSIO mods and xstation))
Good work, how you restored the logos?, What kind paper you used?
PLEASE SOMEONE ON THE KIND OF PAPER FOR THE LOGOS IM LOSING MY MIND HERE!
Its called waterslide paper @@Thanat0psis
tysm my dear friend @@Cengoten
~9 days ago, they commented what the labeling process is and linked to the product for printing your own.
Marvelous idea and realization! Improvements? Just the black decals for power and eject, they are fine but, could be in COLORS next time!
Amazing
what type of spray paint do you use may i ask
Love it but the "PlayStation" text looks to be aligned from the left but is slightly bigger, making it slightly off centre compared to the logo.
I'm not 100% sure that white was the correct color for your restoration... If my memory is serving me correctly: Sony wanted Stark White reserved for NTSC-J units intended to be sold in Hong Kong and Macau. These NTSC-J units came with the ability to play MPEG-1 based Video-CD discs, built-in directly to the circuit board... If somebody cares to fact-check this, it would be greatly appreciated.
Dude The power and the eject button needs to be modified, it makes the console look weird in my opinion..
This is a work of art my man.
First off, PSXs weren't that white. PSOne's came in straight white. You cleaned that beyond its original white casing. But it looks good.
Great 👍
Who says white is boring. It looks awesome
it needs a pair of matching controllers and memory cards to finish the look
🤔 Nowadays, would simply upgrade to a (Frost?) White MemCardPro MC for PS1, cleaning any 2-4 of the already available white DS1s for sale on eBay and, if 3-4 multiplayer, applying the same case treatment to a classic multi-tap since the already white multi-tap for the subsequent slim PSOne was not compatible on previous PS1 form factor consoles, IIRC. Another option for white controller could be using a white PS3, PS4 or (8bitdo?) 3rd-party wireless controllers with a wireless controller receiver dongle plugged in to the port (may likely have to paint the receiver dongle white if none are made in that color) if not modding and installing the one option I recall that kept original controller ports' functionality while adding the aforementioned wireless controller board inside the case after a little notching for clearance of a bare board.
I want this style PS1 but in cyan and magenta.
Excellent restoration! Quick question, where can I find led power lights like your white one online? I want to replace my PS1s green light with a blue light that better matches my ps5, and I can’t find what I’m looking for :p thanks!
I bought the LEDs on Amazon. They have every color you can imagine.
@@VVGRestoration Can you link the one you got?

@@VVGRestoration Thanks :]
🤔 Thinking I like the idea of that white LED applied as automatic lighting for the optical drive/Xstation area via a microswitch and cheap AC-USB adapter wired parallel to the AC mains then tucked to the right side of the case. Would be nice to use the power LED location as a status LED of [whatever color(s), flashing or ramping] to also serve as a wireless controller indicator alongside power.
I was sick of plugging the kettle lead in and out of it so I hardly wired mine! 😊
Sounds like the Drive motor going
it s awesome!!
I want one!
It was all pretty solid. I gotta give a little advice though. When you’re spray painting, after you clean the surface thoroughly, scuff it up with a high grit sandpaper, then apply several light coats. You should still see some grey through it. Then apply even, continuous lines that overlap slightly until it’s covered. Do this three to four times until you no longer see any grey. Let it dry completely, then do a VERY light wet sanding with a high grit sand paper. Rinse, and pat dry. Then do one final EVEN coat. It’s a long arduous process, but the results are absolutely stunning. You’ll have no ugly paint bleed or running, and it’ll look like it came from the factory like that. Also, the white LED was a cool idea, but I would’ve gone with a blue or red for Sony, and it would’ve really popped.
Now you need white DualShock1 from PSX
and a (Frost?) White MemCardPro MC if not also apply the same case treatment to a classic multi-tap since, IIRC, the slim PSOne white multi-tap wasn't compatible on the previous form factor PS1s. Would be a striking combination.
good
The console on white looked superb, instead of that ugly factory grey color, that Sony intended for it in the first place.
So why not replace the TIM?
Seriously this is a really nice upgrade! How did you do that with the lettering and the water? Is it really just printing something out on paper, make it wet and stick? Or how does that work?
Appears the day before your comment, they linked to the product in the comments with some insight there along with it.
@@That_Handle Thank you! I didn't notice haha
Beautifull
Thanks !
How You make these stickers i need mod my console too great work man
I use laser waterslide paper. I design the decals in Photoshop then print them onto the waterslide paper using a laser printer. You cut it out then put it into water for a few seconds and slide it off the backing and let it dry.
Eine gute Arbeit von einem guten Mann!👍🖖😁🍀 Viele Grüße aus Deutschland.
The power/eject icons shouldve been in the same as the original (font shape and size with colour)
Can you tell me more about how did remade this logos, because I want to do the same to my ps1
I bought laser waterslide paper from Amazon, downloaded the PlayStation font (the font name is zrnic), recreated the logos in Photoshop and printed them. Then I applied them like you see in the video. They take a while to dry so you need to either leave them for a couple of days or apply heat from a hairdryer on high setting for about 20 minutes to make them permanent. When applying the decals to ceramic you can just put it in the oven for a while but of course with a a PlayStation this isn't an option since it would melt. So a hairdryer is the best method.
@@VVGRestoration thank you for sharing this information, Question : is the final result like the original
@@ayoubennaciri4656 It depends on the quality and resolution of your printer and the waterslide paper. If you print at 600dpi it looks like the original unless you get very close. 1200 dpi is even better. When looking closely under bright lights you can sometimes see a little of the carrier film at certain angles, depending how closely you cut the logos out but I'm pleased with the result.
@@VVGRestoration ok thank you
@@VVGRestoration Hi, sorry for the delay, what font size did you use for the Sony logo, the Playstation title and the reset button ? And did you finish the memory card cord with some decals too ?
Will the paint on the plastic chip or wear?
Eventually, just like any paint. But it should last many years, unless you attack it with a pickaxe or something. The surface is sanded, then a layer of primer is applied, it's sanded again, then followed by three layers of paint, with a light sanding and cleaning between each one.
Good.
You’ll have to do that pad next to match
Que tipo de papel es el de las pegatinas?
Waterslide paper.
Did bro just give his PlayStation temporary tattoos?
Is it even for sale? 😯
Qual o nome desse papel usado para imprimir as logos da Sony e PlayStation ?
Não sei o nome em português, mas em ingles falamos "waterslide paper".
Pair up with the white PSOne controller and memory card and it be perfect
It looks like it too, from Odd Tinkering
You could make a Dualshock 3 in the style of the PS1 in gray
Превосходная работа! 😏👍
I know that reset button was sticking
I was 17 years old when I got my Play Station 1 back then. I was happy like never before. I'm 45 now and still cringe when I hear the welcome screen. I wish I could go back to 1996 to experience that feeling again. Back then, there was a huge generational leap in graphics compared to the arcades we played until then, as if you could now get a console with 8640p resolution for 500 euros It was an experience 4 times better graphically than anything we had seen up to that point at least for me.
I don't like white electronics and vehicles, but it was a great restoration.
Deberías hacerlo con los controles
I came here to make a dk oldie comment but I’ve been beaten to it! 😂 that being said that was a beautiful restoration! Have you done a matte black version? That would look awesome eye 😮
Not pure black but I've done a two-tone silver and matte black PS1 (satin silver on top with a black base).
@@VVGRestoration you may have answered this before my apologies but do you sell these? (Only found the channel today after it was suggested)
I've sold them in the past but only for the same price that I paid for the console before restoration. I wouldn't sell them for profit. I just enjoy the restoration process, I find it satisfying.
@@VVGRestoration satisfying to watch! I’d love to see a matte black version if you ever get the chance of course! Keep the videos coming 😀
Which spray paint did you use?
Pinty Plus Evolution Pure Matt White 9010

How much for 1?
before "restoration" it was already cleaner than dk oldies consoles. XD
Kkkkk verdade
Noooo the ending, you need to put ps 1 sound there
I did have the PS1 startup sound there, but it got copyright claimed by a music publisher in the UK so I had to edit it out.

pls let me buy it
original ps1 should have been white, not grey, it looks far better

No sanding ?? Ok coral
Yes. You must sand before painting , then sand again after applying the primer, then sand again before second coat.
Painting kinda killed it.
