Paramedics noted that she did not have a pain response. We're not in the murky heavy impaired with memory formation problems, here. We're talking completely - have to be careful with this person because if they're propped in the wrong position they might just stop breathing - unconscious.

    • @@paulsmart4672 exactly! I saw the interview, it’s so sad that the male witness crying is what legitimized the situation for me at the time… instead of just believing the poor girl. Tired of the lack of empathy towards victims of such heinous crimes. I read a statement she gave in the courtroom, it was so upsetting and it changed how I think of these situations. Being drunk is NO excuse for a man violently raping a woman behind a dumpster!

  • When you started talking about that really misinformed book about social cues. My blood started to boil. I suffer from autism although it’s not severe. Sure I can’t read social cues but that’s also not an excuse for anything that he brought up. I would never touch a person with out consent even hugs because I don’t know when it’s a good time to hug so I always ask. It just makes me mad that he’s using something I go through everyday as an excuse for a literal crime. It just really feeds into the whole thing that people who don’t understand social cues now have literal people saying literal crimes are caused by them.

    • Exactly!!

      @withcindy@withcindy3 жыл бұрын
    • withcindy thank you for talking about this book. It means a lot to have someone stick up for people like me. What sucks is that people expect that you will be like everyone else, I feel that the stigma against autism has never gone away so when I tell people I have it they either think that I can barely understand them (which is untrue) or that I’m lying about it because “I’m a good person” and that “I truly understand them”. I feel like people want us to just learn to be “like them” so they could just ignore the issue. Sorry for ranting it just makes me angry that books like this exist and were published 😡.

    • @@bluexsequoia9372 As an autistic person as well, I agree with all of these points. Not being good at reading social cues NEVER leads to committing awful crimes and raping people. Just don't touch people, that's all. Anyone who is a decent person knows to follow that rule.

  • Malcome saying “oh the reason why there is racism and sexual assault going on is because of miscommunications” is the reason why these sort of things are being kept alive. I would change his thesis to how underlying beliefs or agendas can lead to a catalyst of miscommunications. For example already having racist beliefs can lead you to think that a POC is being aggressive which can lead you to make actions that are inappropriate. But even than I still think that would be down grading the issues of society.

Bill Gates, The Beatles etc. And his explanation of why asian people are smarter is because of rice farming. He wrote out an entire section about how rice farming is so difficult and that somehow equates to intelligence. He also never mentions that these successful people are all white.

  • The scientific studies mentioned in Talking to Strangers were interesting, the way he tried to apply it was highly problematic. The studies were interesting to analyze myself, which made me keep reading the book. But then I'd always be on the edge because of the way he was handling such sensitive subjects. Lastly, this might only be me, but I didn't see any trigger warnings on the book. So you can guess my discomfort and disgust when I was on the bus and suddenly this book was describing the rape of a child.
