@Katie Logue Yeah he was very pitchy. I think Simon made the right call that the music was throwing him off. My best guess is because of his nerves he was so focused on trying to stay on time that he lost his pitch in the process. Once the music was off and he was able to set his own pace he did MUCH better pitch wise. Nerves can be a killer when it comes to live vocals.

Harry's unchangeable charisma was always there. His out-of-tune song seems to me unsurprising, maybe he was nervous, maybe he couldn't hear himself, but I think it was just the wrong choice. Tbh, this clip explains why Louie said no. The first song was so off! Also, it makes so much more sense when Nicole says she's glad they had the chance to hear him a cappella. You can say whatever you want about Simon, but he can always spot the raw talent and that x-factor. I think it was the combination of his confidence, the right answers and humbleness AND his second performance that made Simon see the potential in him. Harry really is smart, ambitious and a hard worker. He was not that good to begin with, but who is at the age of 16? He has done the work, and learned to master his art.

Totally agree. When the track faded in, he only had about 2 seconds to work out his starting note. I think if they played it from further back (like at least 2 bars before the chorus), he would have picked the correct key without any issues.

I think majority of the reason why harry got through back in like 2010 was mainly because of his personality, he’s an amazing singer now but I back in 2010 he was kinda weak in the vocal department, he has improved through the years and he definitely deserves the fame he has now. He still has the same personality as he did 13 years ago.
I have to admit Simon had a big part in Harry's passing in the first audition If Simon didn't allow Harry to show off his personality or given him a second chance to sing a capella I don't think Harry would've gotten through
