It reminds me of the tree planting thing. In an odd way, donating $1 to plant a tree makes people too satisfied in feeling like they made a big difference. (Not hating on tree planting or beach cleanup volunteers, they’re super awesome). But these problems run much deeper.
Yeah, I am glad that they help spreading the message of the plastic pollution. Having seen the cleanup robot a while ago was inspiring, but now more people actually see them at work.

I'm glad you at least mentioned that the issue needs to be addressed at the source. Helping poorer communities get access to better santitation is essential to improving waterway conditions. And also we all need to make a conscious effort in our daily lives to USE LESS PLASTIC. Plastic recycling is pretty much a myth sold to us by petroleum and plastics companies.
80% of all rubbish in the sea is just commercial fishing nets alone. Unless commercial fishing stops, what we're doing will make nearly 0 difference to the total plastics in the sea. It will clean up those rivers, which is great and that should help their local community. it should be clear that it's NOT the solution to rubbish in the sea.
@@Morrvian Idk where you're getting the 80% figure, most of the sources I've read estimate plastic from fishing to be about 10% which is still ridiculous! And I agree that commercial fisheries need to be held accountable.
