Its really sad seeing this moment again because you have to remember that Sephiroth is also a victim as Shinra wanted the perfect weapon and Hojo delivered it to them through horrifying methods. Of course it doesn't excuse what Sephiroth did to those villagers but it is sad seeing a man who was once a good man turn into a monster.
Yeah I feel sorry for him.
If you check out Ever Crisis (the First Soldier part), you'll see how Shinra and especially Hojo really went out of their way to make the guy's life miserable

@@TheOnideadpool Again, this wouldn't have happened if he wasn't experimented on before birth and was given a proper childhood. He is a tragic villain, enough said. Hojo, JENOVA, and Shinra are the root of all evil in FF7. Sephiroth was just the offshoot of them.

The way he just walks through the flames, as though he were native to their element ... like a demon from Hell.
This is such a great recreation of the most legendary scene in all of gaming:Dy heart started racing once sephiroth found out who he truly was after he finished reading about his mother in that basement they did reallly good recreating this

19:17 I find it so confusing and wierd that none of them tried to shoot him. Everytime he sliced one, each one kept hesitating to shoot him? 🤷 The scene would have been more intense if he killed one first. Then the rest opens fire while Sephiroth deflects the bullets and dodges before taking them out or something. The rest was great otherwise and well made. 🔥
Maybe even then they were too scared to shoot?

Yeah it doesn't make a whole lot of sense however I tried making sense of it in a reply to a different comment so I'll drop a TLDR here: 1. They were very likely so terrified when they approached him that instead of going "Fight or Flight" they simply froze in fear (knowing he already had an imposing figure and especially after seeing stuff like sephiroth stabbing their people and going a notch further to twist the blade in their corpses as seen in the crawling scene since it's not sure they at first figured out he cast fire magic since everyone was probably sleeping) 2. They probably had poor training if any that they completely forgot about when push really came to shove so instead of firing at once they all expected the other guy to do something so everyone ended up doing nothing 3. Even if they did manage to muster up courage to shoot him, he could've reacted to it faster (it was really visible with the mayor who was about to do it but within a fraction of a second had his leg sliced after which he gave up) 4. Maybe they realized that even if they shot him, it'd be a minor inconvenience for him at most due to the fact he survived so much shit (some situations that prolly seemed impossible) and that most they could do is only threaten him without showing they don't actually have much, which didn't work cause reasoning with a guy who had clearly went mad is not really a doable thing
the scene where he sees fire roading outside his front door and going ill save you mom is also dumb as hell.
Prolly from utter disbelief that the hero they once celebrated and adored did this

Man, I find Sephiroth to be better than Ultima
Easily better. Ultima was one of the most disappointing main ff villains ever. He lacks all the pose and menace of characters like Sephiroth Ultimecia and Kuja, while having none of the charisma of characters like Gilgamesh, Garland or Kefka.
Who’s Ultima? FF 16 villain?

Y'know, everything that went wrong with Sephiroth, every last thing could have all been avoided if Hojo had just told Sephiroth his real mother's name. That would have been all it took to avert catastrophe, for Sephiroth to have an additional link to the idea that he was human, but nope.
I don't think anything would have changed. Jenova chose Sephiroth not the other way around. Alot of people still don't understand the truth about Sephiroth because it's only told in game through subtext. But Sephiroth becomes Jenova. Sephiroth ceases to exist as himself after he walked out of the mansion. Jenova was looking for a knew vessel after her death. Her soul cannot return to the lifestream because she is an alien. All hojo did was facilitate Jenova's rebirth. This is why all the SOLDIERs with S cell's in them are drawn to Sephiroth. Sephiroth is the chosen vessel and Jenova has completely taken him over. Jenova true goal was also finally revealed in Rebirth. She does not want to die or end. She is in a constant quest to obtain true immortality.

It's more likely they were in shock to see Sephiroth do something like this and they were having a hard time processing it.

I think it also makes no sense but I'll try get a theory that could maybe help my irritation with Nomura's writing. The guy already had an imposing look with main reasons for that being he got cat eyes and is something like 7' tall (6'1 in the original release though in the remake it's clearly visible he's much taller than even Barret). While they probably didn't see him specifically cast fire magic nor expect it for that matter, the mayor and other militiamen were probably running around and have definitely seen him kill the villagers before they themselves died and the detail we also get to see is that after he stabs them (which is already enough to kill them), he doesn't only keep the sword in the people he killed but takes a few seconds to twist it around before moving on (as seen in the part where "cloud" is crawling towards him). All this probably horrified the villagers so much that instead of a "Fight of Flight" response they just stood half-paralyzed in fear when they were supposed to try and force him to stop, and even if they did manage to gather courage to do something, Sephiroth was able to react to it faster than they could act (it was most visible with the mayor who had clearly mustered up the courage to shoot him but immediately had his leg sliced by a fraction of a second before he would've likely done it after which he clearly gave up and gave him that last look in the eye) Though to be fair, knowing that he has regeneration abilities and insane strength+durability, even if he did get shot it would probably be just a minor inconvenience for him, if it wasn't for the fight in Remake, SE could've used it to convey that Sephiroth had become an absolute menace that can't even be taken out with a shotgun at point blank range and instead just continued walking slowly toward the mayor as if nothing happened
Also what I forgot to include is the fact that the militiamen in the village most likely had poor training if any, so it's very likely they just forgot about everything they were told about when push came to shove

Yeah. Probably a combination of Cloud’s memory and Zack’s. At 17:40 while Cloud is approaching his home you can hear a voice credited as “Security Officer” struggling to say “Sephiroth” and then “Mom”. I think this is a recollection of Cloud’s voice, first stunned that Sephiroth is attacking the village and then shifting to call out to his mother trapped within the burning building. There’s also just within the camera a body sprawled on the ground, one that matches the position and uniform of Cloud in that little bit of his true memory where his mother tells him to run away.
Sephiroth is becoming the most powerful evil in the universe and he's a devil.
Why is the rebirth version more complete than crisis core? Also, where is genesis?

Honestly it’s better without Genesis.
this is such a shit way to do the scene. the original explains way better why and how he went so deep off the rails. its not just that he locked himself in there. he doesn't sleep or eat for like 5 days straight. and since that's the lab where he was made, it has records of what they did to make him as well as how they treated the lady who birthed him. it also has records of what the ancients were, how they died, and what they intended to do with anyone of ancient decent. by the time zack goes in there he's borderline hallucinating while going through a crisis of identity. which is why he's so focused on jenova at the end of it. its the only thing that still makes sense to him in his current state. my mom is locked in a basement after they experimented on her for years. he's almost manic in how he talks/acts while losing his shit. he's literally having a mental breakdown and lashing out at everything he sees. he kills the town because he considers humanity, "traitors". having killed and replaced the original guardians of our world. and what we intend to do with the promised land if shinra found it made it worse. he says all of this to zach on his way out the door. and as cloud was the grunt instructed to guard the room/attend to sephiroth for the 5 days, he is there for the whole conversation. he sees sephiroth descend into madness first hand. its so annoying that they just decide he went evil. instead of showing him losing his mind instead. the only reason cloud was able to beat him at the end, was because he was mentally and physically at the end of his rope. he had just enough to beat zach and that's it.
You do realize this "flashback" is fake, right? That Cloud is the unreliable narrator who never knew the full picture?
@kaihedgie1747 Doesn't change the fact that the scene played out way differently in the original under the same circumstances (Cloud retelling a story) and it was much better presented for the purpose of driving home these narrative elements, which the remake decided were so unimportant as to skip almost entirely.

@@kaihedgie1747 not the way you mean. go back and play the original. even with retcon, as crisis core reveals that genesis told sephiroth to check the mansion, which is how he knew the files were there. aside from that, cloud is there start to finish, and at parts even zack wasn't. since cloud is the grunt stationed next to him and told to check on him. the entire 5 days sephiroth is losing his shit and reading all the books, going through the files, watching all the videos cloud is right at the door to witness all of it. which is why there isn't alot of gap for him to have, and how he knows things he technically shouldn't if he was the other first class there. as zach was the one talking to everyone in the town, calling back to base etc, he didn't have time to be there every step of the way and hear all the explanation like cloud did, since he was a grunt. the only unreliable part of the story, that throws tifa is the fact that A) cloud wasn't the other 1st class in charge and B) wasn't there in the roll he said he was. or everyone would have welcomed him back as the hero from there town. the details aren't what make him an unreliable narrator. he knows what happened. his role in the story does.
