  • We just docked at Callville Bay boat ramp as this accident you mentioned happened. I was a 3rd truck in line to recover our boat when 1st victim (a woman) was brought to the ramp dock by a boat who found her. The park ranger arrived at the same time and together with some boaters who seemed to have rescue background started performing CPR. It was obviously too late as the victim had multiple amputations that I could see from where I was parked. More police, fire and rescue vehicles arrived in about 15 minutes. A lifeflight helicopter landed in the parking lot. One boat came in at high speed and said that they found a second person in the water about a mile away from Callville Bay marina. Some rescue workers piled into that boat and took off into the darkness. They arrived shortly with a second victim (a man). I could clearly see that he had equally horrific injuries. The suspect boat arrived in a few minutes and the police officer asked everyone to slide their boats closer together so the suspect's speed catamaran with loud V8 could dock. The ramp docks were completely packed with boats as all ramp activities stopped since the incident occurred. The police began to talk to the suspect, as one of the officers approached and told us that the ramp will be closed until the morning. We were given an option to leave our boat as is and come back for it in the morning, or to find a camping spot on some beach and spend a night, which is what we did. I must add that I have plenty of experience boating in my life on some of country's busiest lakes and costal waters. I have never seen a worse boater etiquette at the ramp and on the water than at Lake Mead. Everyone is in constant hurry and is eager to cut someone else off. We often finish our day at the lake after dark. Almost every time I see of hear jetskies heading out onto the lake in pitch darkness with no lights (obviously). Jetskies are prohibited to operate between sunset and sunrise, yet it's a common practice on Lake Mead. You also often see fishermen in tiny boats going out for a night catch with no lights. I'm in the process of installing a radar with a FLIR camera on my boat, as it seems to be just a matter of time before I run into someone with no lights at night.

    • a very sad tale about the boating deaths, sorry to hear of the poor boater etiquette at lake mead, visited twice in the early 80's and as i recall it was much more congested than i was used to with my boating spots back in NewYork and i was impressed with how everyone followed the rules, may have to rethink a future visit in my retirement

    • Thank you for commenting and sharing your account of what happened. What a horrific thing to witness for everyone there! And worst of all of course for that couple to go through just coming back from a day on the lake. Now their family is left is pick up what's left. I had so many questions when I first saw this accident being reported. How could a boater get up enough speed around the marina to cause such a horrific accident?! After seeing the charges, now I know. It's crazy that he just floated back to dock after causing all that damage also. I would think he'd have major issues with his boat. Not that he'd care. Like you said- it's no different then the roads in Las Vegas now either. There is no accountability either, people are frustrated. It has become too crowded, or just grown too fast without the infrastructure. Look what happened to the new Raiders player last week... 3-10 years for hitting a girl and watching her and the dog burn alive in the car. Everyone is late, in a hurry, pissed off... or you're in their way no matter what you're doing. We really dislike this modern mentality that has taken over. Wondering if it's just here, or maybe this is the new normal everywhere? It's a rat race out here!

    • Very possible, downstream releases to AZ/CA are about to ramp up so it's a "stop-loss" game from now until winter

  • Grand Canyon is a natural Mother Nature deadliest area. Yellowstone is a Mother Nature planetary supermagma chamber (and critters) deadliest area. Yosemite is a deadly critters (bears) area. Lake Mead is a human 2-legged critters deadliest area - by murders, boating accidents, or swimming drownings.

    • The actual status of Lake Mead visitors has gone down. One can only say they have "less IQ", less respect for themselves and others, irresponsble people, less-properly trained up boating people ... and too many new younger generations with too much free money, too many toys ... and too many "whooooo hooooo !!!!!" party children attitudes.

    • I like your breakdown of each park👍 I would definitely agree with Lake Mead being the deadliest for 2-legged creatures. Some people can't help themselves, got to have everything all the time. Unfortunately it's fitting being just outside Las Vegas. The roads are even worse...

  • That was a death hole before it was made by the greed of "civilized", taker man.
