  • For non-Spanish speakers. Cachin tells him at the end... "you have made my dream come true (playing that match) and I don't know if it is breaking protocol but I would like to have your shirt." Nadal tells him that he does give it to him inside and they wish each other the best of luck.

He had a momentary lapse in focus and form in the second set, which is bound to happen given the lack of recent match play. Expect him to come out all guns blazing in the proceeding weeks.

Even though his down the line was riskier than usual because his movement to his forehand is still a bit compromised, it was enough to put Cachin out of position and to stop expecting the cross-court forehand. • Rafa you gave an incredible performance and you gave your shirt to your opponent with the instructions to air dry and use cold water and one rinse, what a guy.

  • Some of Nadal's shots are seriously impressive.... getting quite close to when he was in full form. There are obviously other aspects of his playing that haven't fully recovered (e.g. serve, movement), but even they are surprisingly good considering how long he's been plagued by injuries. Imagine if he won Roland Garros again....
