  • Very nice & proper repair, what works very well for me is the use of isopropyl for general cleaning and then the Zippo to improve contacts and leave a tinny protective layer because zippo's oil in self. i remember in some time Sorin used to use this ZIppo on his repairs.. for me was always a good idea !

  • i bet you 10 quid the audio does not work, or at the very least the headphone port does not work, i work on this model often (a2337) and water always destroys the little audio io/daughter board. easy fix/replacement. also not a hater, i genuinely think you are the man, i watch daily, 4-5 years or so, your low melt solder paste is amazing also.

    @kevinfitzpatrick1386@kevinfitzpatrick138610 күн бұрын
    • Low melt solder (aka "low melt allow") in general is a game changer. I discovered it more than 20 years ago from ZEPHYRTRONICS while learning to rework expensive, prototype PCB's. I've watched techs ruin boards, and make UGLY repairs due to struggling with component removal -- they do not know the secret 😁.

  • IPA works wonders on corrosion caused by liquid damage. The risk as said is just how long will it continue to work? If there is still unseen damage under the components, then it is just down to your luck regarding the long reliability of the laptop.

  • Maybe a good idea to shield the tantalum capacitors from the hot air when removing the metal shield?

    @tim0steele@tim0steele10 күн бұрын
    • @tim0steele: Tantalum capacitors withstand the heat caused by hot air very well. Sometimes, like MOVs (metal oxide varistors), they are "carbonized" by sudden voltage spikes (transient). On the other hand, electrolytic capacitors (aluminum body) withstand a maximum temperature of 450 Celsius, in common consumer appliance applications, so it is highly recommended to cover them with Kapton tape or other suitable insulating material, if any are close to the component you want to remove. Northridge posted a video in which one of them exploded on him, fortunately without affecting his personal safety, while he was carrying out Hot Air repair work at a temperature of almost 500 degrees Celsius. All the best.

      @user-bh1tj8df3l@user-bh1tj8df3l7 күн бұрын
    • @@user-bh1tj8df3l Many experts advise against using hot air rework on or near tantalum capacitors due to their sensitivity to high temperatures (according to ChatGPT!). Definitely agree about electrolytic capacitors, they don't like heat at all.

Put it in 1 kg of rice, 1 day in the sun but even if it boots no video only the welcome sound. I took it apart and didn't,t se waterdammage on the motherboard. Can the water creep under the gpu? Do you think it will work eventually? Greetings from Mexico

  • If you really want to be efficient, you invest 80 pounds on a decent ultrasonic cleaner, you put the board there, you leave it for an hour or two and in the mean time you work on other repairs. The final result will be way much better than brushing with a tooth brush and IPA.

  • No way I would do this for a customer same day. 1) I take picture of damaged areas 2) Throw in ultrasonic cleaner, submerge it in alcohol for 10 mins, let it dry over night in front of fan. I also put the keyboard in front of fan 3) I reflow CD chips 4) Test for problems. I also upsell on bad parts. Usually battery and keyboard dead with this type of spill You forgot to check under heatsink CPU area 😬
