As a filmmaker and his girlfriend return home from his movie premiere, smoldering tensions and painful revelations push them toward a romantic reckoning.
Malcolm’s only goal was to win arguments and walk away with his head held high. Even if it’s at her expense, he just wants the final word. But Marie knew how to hit back, by attacking his work/talent. The wild part is their arguments had so much honesty and passion.
You hit the point.
Marie said hurtful things right back about him being a hack. And he did have a point about him just wanting to celebrate his movie getting a great reception.
Darn that sounds familiar
@@phillipsmith6704 well they could’ve just had an amazing celebration if he wouldn’t have forgotten to thank his gf, whom he wrote the whole film about.
Yep,that's exactly what dealing with someone drunk on pride is like.Narcissism is so tiering...
She just tries to make something clear. She needs acknowledgement, appreciation, she needs a partner that sees her and she tells him. But he is defensive about it. He thinks he can do no wrong. Blinded by that he taunts her, makes her feel like she is asking for too much, acts like she should be grateful he even loves her. I recognize these dynamics with my mother. Wherever I try to talk about something that bothers me, she jumps into defense and manages to make it my fault, when I never even intended or tried to attack her.
I felt the same with my late husband.
This movie would literately make you rethink if I want be in a relationship.
Well, no. But it's great to reflect.
Malcolm and Marie is a relationship that I don't wanna have. 🤣
True
🤣🤣🤣I've already felt that by just watching the trailer
You want a relationship. Unless you're not human.. I don't care what anyone says no one wants to go home every single day and be by themselves
This movie was so intimate, it made me cringe and cry at parts. It doesn't feel like a movie. It feels like a memory, or a dream, something in our subconscious. Like you are spying on their life. Beautiful, terrifying and complex. Best movie I saw on Netflix in a while It doesn't have shoot outs and glitter but the acting leaps off the stage.
i swearr, it really made me cringe at some parts it felt as if i’m seeing the cinematic representation of my past relationship which was way too toxic and ended on a bad note. Both of them are phenomenal actors
When u said “shoot outs and glitter”, I assumed u were making a reference to his previous film Assassination Nation
the film style was doing a lot of heavy lifting because no shade zendaya and denzel jr are not strong actors. i could see like jonathan majors and nicole beharie completely eating these roles up.
@@darkale658 she has an Emmy 💀. U must haven’t seen euphoria
Honestly this is how some relationships are...... definitely when the other person is stoic and not a screamer
Me and my ex fit those roles - stoic and a screamer
Still blown away by the knife scene 🤯
She totally killed it, right? I've never been so tense in my life 😂😂
Oh yeah...
@@sophielambie3036 me too😂
Ikr? I was like shit this is taking a different turn...kinda wish it would have just to see how that would have played out
🦁👏
The things they said to each other! Whew chile! Zendaya and John David took toxic relationship to a whole different level. They were brilliant.
Washington blood is strong in the voice 💪
I had to stop watching at some point because I couldn’t take how horrible Malcolm was to Marie. He knew how sensitive she is and can be because of where she was before yet he still attacked her knowing all of that. Putting himself on the high horse for being the “better person” because he “loved” her during her battles, and expecting her to always make him feel good without regarding her feelings at all. I just-couldn’t. He was the toxic one here.
I stopped watching too because both were toxic. I loved the cinematography but it wasn't enough to make me continue to watch.
@moonkween No, he never appreciated her and was condescending toward her.
They are both toxic to be honest. Malcolm was wrong for talking about Marie’s self harm and Marie didn’t need to crap on his work like that.
@@MB-nb7yq People like you don't get appreciated enough. I will say it right now, thank you, great comment. Salute!
@@MB-nb7yq He uses Marie´s life story... does not thank her on is big speech AND then its mad at her bcs she is not happy... The fact that she was an actress and he never talk to her so they could make their movie together side by side showns that Malcolm was more toxic to her.. She also showed him that she could play "herself" on is play with the knif screen. but lets adore the amazing knif screen that Zendaya perform... epic change reactions...
Ok, real talk. Me after the first 20 minutes watching the movie: 1) Press pause. 2) Make some macaroni and cheese. 3) Feel bad. 4) Press play.
Seriously close your eyes and all you hear is Denzel. John David looks like his mama, but sounds exactly like his daddy.
EXACTLY
Nah
@@vb8428 At certain points you can.
Am I only one who thought this movie was..exhausting lol like damn they’re both toxic for each other
I almost stopped watching half way through. This is not a movie I could watch again, it was DRAINING lol
This movie made my head hurt...
Yes omg, I was tired.
I felt so tired after watching it. Good movie but won’t be watching it again
@@luxuriouslibra3353 CANT IMAGINE...ALL THEY HAD TO GIVE...ALL IT TOOK...AND U KNOW THEY DO MULTIPLE TAKES....WHEWWW😓
This was so raw and intimate. If felt more like a real life scene that a plain old scripted movie. It was beautiful work. 🥺
This is ART

Can't say I agree
It sucks
Right on👍
@@marilyn1984 why are you in this comment section then pal?😂
I feel like John David Washington play his character so well.
This movie is basically Christian Grey and Anastasia life after the fifty shade of grey movies
not really

Not really this competly different

So true
This film actually feels like watching the neighbors fighting ... Like it doesn't feel like a movie
Omg! Her acting is phenomenal! I'm so proud of Zendaya. So great! She defintely has amazing talent! Wow fantastic job! She should get an award for this!
This movie and Marriage Story, I can watch them everyday and still not get bored.
I was mesmerised by Zendaya’s performance she is a true star ( hope for an academy nomination for her) stunning in every possibile way. Washington was really good but even if he had more moment to shine he wasn’t able (for me) to really shine (I don’t know just my personal opinion)
Yeah me too. You could see on her she was not having it, and don't get me started on the knife scene.
The knife scene! During that moment I was kinda scared but at the same time amazed by her. The best scene seriously is the final monologue of her.
She could have played her part better. Her acting was very flat in many parts of the film. At times I would be distracted by her acting instead of understanding the storyline. I think JDW out did her performance wise.
@@edoardobanche8087 I agree.
@@waveanna4411 absolutely. JDW absolutely killed it
They should get nominated fr
Some of y’all haven’t even seen the movie yet and you’re already saying it’s trash at least wait until it comes out before displaying harsh criticism towards it instead of making up your mind from a 2 minute video clip 🙄
I know
If they release this 2 minute clip, it's obviously intended to be representing of the film, idiot.
@@daddyt2837 but it’s not THE film. Moron. It’s like when you watch a certain clip from a movie and you don’t like it, but when you watch the whole movie you realize you just didn’t like that particular scene.

I’m itching for this to be uploaded 🥺💀
Definitely want to see this movie.
I saw this the minute they posted it on Netflix this was outstanding loved the acting
I love this movie it was great love zendaya and John David Washington they had awsome chemistry together
😂🎉❤ I love this scene I love j.d's tie just remaining flipped over his shoulder as he & Marie/zen argue about every freaking thing!
All clips I’ve seen I loved soooooo countdown is real!!!!
Outstanding performance ❤
This was a very intense scene i like that both characters finally laid their cards on the table about what they expected from each other in their relationship.
Loved the movie. Watched it 2X already. I don’t want I relationship like that. It was funny, sweet, hurtful, loving 🥰. I just couldn’t make up my mind. There were moments I hated Malcom and was routing for Marie, then vice versa. But it was good. So good. Both John David and Zandaya played the heck out of these characters.
Such a phenomenal performance they did there thing,😩❤️💙
I like this film, it is definitely not for everyone, but it is good. It deals with a couple, that it looks like finally confronting about somthing that created tension between them while Malcolm was making the film, but it also lighting a light about the hypocrisy of society and especially Hollywood that is trying to compensate years of discrimination of minorities by now treating them like a "make a wish" kid instead of treating them like pepeole, with their own personality inside the context of who they are physically. It's criticizing the notion that we heard in the last Oscars like "why no women are in this and this category" instead of asking what they did to deserve a nomination, and this movie doesn't take away that non white males are not getting the same opportunities, but when they do they are being judged by who they are and not what they did, and I saw a lot of critics hating that aspect of the film and it says a lot about them. Brilliantly done, great acting, great cinematography.
Loved this
Wow...Pacino and De Niro- esque in Heat...this was an awesome performance...love
Honestly, I don't know how critics didn't lavish this movie with praise. I guess they were offended by the dabs Malcolm took at critics 😂
this movie was so brilliant at getting what it wanted across that I was emotionally EXHAUSTED at the end. Have to watch it a couple more times to unpack everything. I personally felt as if they didn't fit each other (like the chemistry?) in the beginning but I wonder if that aided in the narrative of them going at each other. Like I still feel that they just don't seem like a couple (he just looks much older idk) but I wonder if that was done on purpose? The awkwardness/unfamiliarity between the 2 may help in the dialogue? Hope anyone understands what I'm trying to say. But of course they were casted based off pure talent which they both did deliver in their individual as well as collaborative performances.
One of the best movies I’ve ever seen in my life
Amazingly beautiful 🤩 love ❤️ zenday!!!
That's what's great I heard so much of Denzel in his voice.
Really feels like Denzel and Zendaya going at it instead 😂
actually thought I was reminiscing while watching the movie
Denzel in Fences and John in Malcom and Marie both characters talk to damn much. Standing ovation awesome 👌👏😎🙌👍
This was an entertaining movie. A lot of arguing but it was a good story! Well done Netflix!
This film is beautiful. John David and Zendaya had to be emotionally exhausted after these extensive scenes. And the writing is exquisite!
Looks really good. Can't wait to watch this soon
Thank GOD I'm single! Great film. Acting..writing!
😂😂😂
DAYA DAYA DAYA ‼️😩👏🏾😍
Malcolm is genuinely afraid of Marie 😂
Wow that 2 minutes and some change felt shorter😭can’t wait
They were both searching the same way just with different pain. Remember the scene where Marie plays get rid of him oh no to communicate after telling him to not apologize with music that was written for another woman lol. Its only when you see the humanity in your partners argument that you can truly feel and see where they are comh from....
I can't wait too see this movie.✌✌✌✌
It’s interesting how every time I look at the comments, everyone thinks Marie is some kind of saint. They took shots at each other. I think his words cut the deepest, however are we just forgetting she physically threatened him with a knife?! I loved the movie, particularly how you can see how their fight fizzles out and then starts up again with one wrong word.
This movie should get Oscar!
Their goals!!🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️
Whos goals?

Oh my god take all the awards away💝

Awesome... Absolutely true.❤❤
Realy good movie
Let me just say this movie is not for the weak and simple minded. If you don’t appreciate cinematography or have an understanding of what it’s like to effectively communicate in real time; it’s also not for you. With that said. This was a beautiful masterpiece.
this movie is for the hard cinematic movie experience fans
I was today old when i found out this is denzel washington's son!
Glad I'm single 🤣
Ain't that the truth bro lol
I feel like this would be better on stage instead of in film
any onscreen argument is outrageous
Period
Um why is everyone saying it’s on Netflix feb 5 at 12 and its 8am and it’s not on Netflix. I’m in the US
Saw this movie, and I have mixed feelings about it. What could've been an amazing piece of art, turned out a bit forced. Like what ensued secs before this particular scene, or Zendaya jutting her chin up, sort of preparing herself to act to argue, John's acting coming off comical as opposed to something very serious, example this exact scene. In the bedroom, towards the end, when he starts crying for the third time in this fight, it seems a bit... forced? Idk how to say but I could just know that they were acting, something which doesn't happen when great actors act and dialogues are not idiotical. Marriage story for ex., the actors made real faces, dialogues looked like something actual real person would say, expressions were also ordinary, which is a compliment because they represented ordinary people. This is something I cannot say about this particular piece. Zendaya's acting was beautiful in Euphoria. Idk why she and him overacted in this.
I completely agree
100% agree...this felt very much like a play. The acting is horrible, especially zendaya. Her expressions are not natural, its like what she thought it should be. Its almost like a parody of a drama.
Zendaya dress is pretty
I ship them for real....
If Denzel didn’t spit his boy out.....
Lmao you can tell his dad is denzel from his portrayal in this movie. Also zendaya did really good in this movie I thought she was a average actress from her performances in euphoria and Spider-Man I thought she could only play edgy teens
Is this movie gonna be in Black and White ???
Yes
It’s trying to give it a 50’s look .
This movie made me never want to be in a relationship.
Ladies freed advice. If your man doesn’t make feel seen or makes you feel like you’re replaceable and doesn’t acknowledge how important you are to him, dump him.
I don't feel like I could watch this movie based on the reviews I hate movies where they're in one place
I feel the same way too but They move around & when u watch the movie u see why the main base is the house and all the other rooms with it
Zendaya is a 24 year old woman but I can't unsee that 22 year age gap. I just can't.
She still look like a little ass girl to me
Age between Zendaya and John David? Just 12 years.
Tf do you mean 22 year age gap? How old do you think they are???
Your loss. And oh what 22 year gap you talkin about?? JDW is 36 and Zendaya is 24, a grown woman.
12 year age gap not 22
I didn’t wanna watch it because of the 12 year age difference, but this looks really good!
🦁👏
And his next question was..."Are we no longer fighting?" Lord
There's no plot, it's a boring conversation piece, but I love this film.
WoW Zendaya....
This is such a beautiful movie I have to rewatch this the back and forth is just a work of art.
I like zendaya and I think she’s great but I somehow this casting feels off. Not saying she did bad but it does feel unmatched. Washington’s acting skill is pedigree. I never knew he was denzels son when liking his acting in Ballers. He’s great.
This shit reminded me of my ex. She acts just like her lol 🙁

🖐🏽if you came here because KevOnStage 😂
Oh hell no they should have got somebody else for the queen Zendaya look at her and look at him🙄💯
No, I get it, Sam Levinson. These people are wealthy and miserable for no reason, but they're still only human. That is why they eat mac n' cheese for dinner, and not because they obviously didn't learn anything in home economics class about cooking, as well as dinner table manners, cleaning dishes and kitchenware properly, and not putting your elbows on the table while eating.
This guy reminds me of his father a lot and that's not a good thing. I want him to create his own identity as an actor
All of you need to go to lovingmeafterwe on insta and read her highlight about this movie
Is anyone craving Mac And Cheese
Why is he chewing so harddddd👀
Don’t watch this if you don’t like movie in one place...it’s boring and hard to get through
This feels awkward to me because of the uncomfortable dead silence and Malcom eating a bowl of rice 🍚
I can see them acting, which means I don’t believe them.
Right. Zendaya specifically
She's petty and he's jaded.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I don’t like how this
Huh?
... Unpopular opinion... This movie was really boring and the fighting was very repetitive and Malcolms whole rant about the film review was exhausting to watch...
