    • Personally I believe that he is as beautiful as he is due to the physical and Psychological care he's getting. All Cockatoo's (birds) beautiful but those who have inefficient nutrition, love and care tend to look twice their age and unwell. There are a lot of ill looking parrots on the net with clipped wings and toxic plastic crap toys. Here we have birds being respected for being birds and not being forced to be anything other than the beautiful natural wonders that they are 🌻

  • I've read that Major Mitchells can become aggressive after they reach adulthood. The male's have been known to kill their female mates both in the wild and in captivity. In Australia in the wild, their home ranges sometimes overlap with those of the rose-breasted cockatoo and there have been incidents of cross-breeding.

    @vickyabramowitz4919@vickyabramowitz49197 жыл бұрын
    • We have heard the same things however I have never heard of this happening with a companion parrot only aviary birds (usually breeding pairs) I personally find them to be extremely affectionate and sweet however our MM's are not confined to a breeding cage with no stimulation and a single breeding box, I would think that would make anyone go crazy. Allowing our parrots to have flight and daily enrichment outdoors has shown a significant difference in health and temperament compared to the pet indoor/aviary birds. I just see it as, they are extremely intelligent and if we don't allow them to use that to the best of their ability then the likelihood of self destructive behaviours is far higher.

Success and love were the order of my days with my Seram. She now lives with a lady who has lots of land and woodlands. Please tell us how you first got your baby MM.

  • I mean, a pair of budgies is all my budget yields. They are very nice and fun-loving birds. I have seen budgies...they can speak sentences in a solid row. But that is not my aim. I think, that this could be abnormal behaviour. I`m not so sure about that.

    • Major Mitchell's generally have a bad reputation of being very aggressive and brutal however I and my friends who have them found it to be the opposite, very beautiful natured and cheeky. Different temperament to a sulphur in my opinion... perhaps a mixture of galah, sulphur and corella? haha

    @adarkerlink@adarkerlink7 жыл бұрын
    • Not clipping wings is key, and early socialisation. Parrots very very rarely bite to kill or maim, they will always fly away and only bite as a last resort. If you clip wings your asking for trouble as they have no other option but to bite. Other then that ensuring the environment/aviary is large enough for all to fly around in, big and small birds confined to a small aviary/cage is again asking for trouble. Lots of positive reinforcement and clicker training :)

  • You have budgies as free flying parrots!? (outside vids) Never have seen this in my life. Amazing! I remember budgies in my childhood. They flew through the flat, but in the nature? So, conclusion is: you can train all sorts of parrots for free flight, as long as the character of the individual bird fits to it!? Crazy!

    @2511pixel@2511pixel7 жыл бұрын
    • I believe all parrots should be flighted however not all should be free flown regardless of character and skill development. It purely comes down to a species of parrot not being able to meet all its physical and mental needs indoors, they are the birds that should be free flown. If a species of parrot can meet all the physical and mental needs within the safety of indoors then what reason other then your own desire is there to put it at risk by free flying it outdoors? If it's not for the birds benefit then who's is it for? As I said though, id love for all pet parrots to be flighted indoors as its crucial for their mental and physical health I cannot wait for the day for majority of public to be educated enough to choose not to clip wings :)

Anyway that other person and myself were asking about whether MM cockatoos had one row or two crests, we both thought we had seen a MM with 2 but couldn't remember where. I found it!!! It's this video, around time stamp 0:57. Please, I beg of you ( a little dramatic wouldn't you say? 🤣) Can you address this to me? Many thanks if you have the time. XOXO Pugs and Hisses 😘
