Annoying thing about England fans who say they’re gonna win is they could t name the starting 11 for Brazil, Spain, Belgium or Portugal.. but they think they’re better because they watch the prem. where the best players aren’t English lol

England have 1 win in their last 12 matches w/ Brazil too, same as Venezuela & Bolivia, 9th & 10th best in South America, they've failed against enough iterations to know what to expect by now
As a Scot, would love Wales, Ireland, NI etc to do well in any tournament. The best part about England is watching the hype and excitement of getting further then losing on pens, getting knocked out etc, its hilarious. Scotland has a smaller population than London alone, no way any other home nations should even come close to challenging. Portugal excellent squad, France world class players reached last World Cup, Spain always quality etc, never rule out the Germans
The main issue is the media. Everyone else in the world has their own media and then maybe hears the odd thing here and there from foreign media. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are the only places on earth whose own media spends 99% of the time talking about a different country.
The issue is that so many people from other countries know English and watch our media coverage. This is magnified because the PL is so popular. I can tell you, as a Spanish speaker (my second language), that Spainish media aren't that much different. In fact, when they talk about Real Madrid players, it's always, "he's the best in the world", for pretty much every player. I've barely heard them speak about Kevin De Bruyne like that, despite him being genuinely one of the best, and probably _the_ best in his position. They still talk about Kroos and Modric (in their mid-late 30s) as being the best, and that's after Man City gave them a footballing lesson last season. Apparently Bellingham, after like 20 games, was a shoo-in for the Ballon d'Or, if it'd been the English media saying that, it would've been labelled "English arrogance." I guarantee other nation's media big up their own players, and mostly talk about their own players, it's just that they don't have the same platform as the English media do, or anywhere close to the same number of people consuming it. In fact, I know Turkish fans are spamming Arda Gülerr every opportunity they get, and he's started just one cup game the whole season for Real Madrid. They'll be some of the same people chipping in about Englisih players getting hyped too much. 🤦♂
@@futurez12 The difference is that Spanish people listen to Spanish football being overhyped in the Spanish media and Turkish people listen to Turkish football being overhyped in the Turkish media. They'll see things from England but can ignore it. Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish people hear England being overhyped in their own media. If you're from one of these places and your team qualifies for a major tournament, 95% of the coverage available to you won't be about your own country. I remember thinking it was fair for all the coverage to be about England because they're the only ones who qualify. Then in Euro 2016 Wales and Northern Ireland qualified, and even when Wales reached the semi's it was still nearly always England being discussed. No one else has to put up with this.

@@Support-your-local-team If Scottish, Welsh and NI people don't wanna hear about England then there's an option to turn over the channel. If 95% are specific shows about England, why are they watching those? 85% of the UK's population is English, it stands to reason that 85% would be about England. Also, if you ever do watch England matches, and Welsh, Scottish and/or NI are involved in the tournament (and are still in it, which is basically the group stages. LMAO) you'll 100% find discussion about their camps and their next fixture during that coverage (usually at half time), so don't try and make out like that isn't the case. And BTW, 10% of the overall coverage being about Scotland would be a big overrepresentation when you look at the viewership by nationality.
@@futurez12 I'm talking about things like the coverage of international tournaments. If BBC or ITV have the rights to a game, what channel am I supposed to to turn to and watch it on? I've never made out that they don't cover the other countries at all, I'm saying it's always the bare minimum. During the draw for the Euro's they talked at length about England's group, went to James McFadden to talk for a few minutes about Scotland's group and then headed straight back to waffle about England for ages. You've missed the point talking about 85% this, 10% that. People in even smaller countries than Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland don't have coverage of their own country reduced down to 10% because it's their own media. Even if the BBC had perfectly proportional and fair coverage, the unique situation of having most of your media coverage about another country will build resentment.

The hatred for England is a thing that has been going on for centuries celts and Saxons between us. Regarding the betting odds they will be shortened by the amount of money that is being placed on them. The MOST arrogance any team or fans have ever shown is Ally McLeod's talented Scottish team of 1978 saying in the song " We're On The March With Ally's Army" including lines like "We'll really shake them up when we win The World Cup because Scotland are the greatest football team!" That World Cup resulted in resounding failure and humiliation
As a Frenchman who’s lived in England for years, I can tell you that Darren Bent is absolutely spot on. To be fair though, this England side is more than capable of winning Euro 2024. My only concern if I was a fan of the Three Lions is that they might fall short because I don’t think the manager is good enough.

Here after Brazil humbled us. Bent is absolutely right. Media always overhyping and it’s the same with the current players. Yes they have enough decent players to win a tournament, but they won’t, and it’s a mentality thing, not just down to Southgate. Brazil always have good players and people shouldn’t underrate them. At the moment we are pathetic.
I always wanted Wales Scotland Ireland etc to qualify n do well . Until England lost the Euros final and the abuse we got was horrendous so I hope that any of the other home nations never win another game .

It was the oldest international tournament on the planet & lasted for 100 years (1883-1983). It could be held at least every other year in the summer when a world cup or Euros isn't on

The arrogance isnt with most fans of england. Most fans are pretty spot on. The real arrogance is the guys in the media and pundits spouting p1sh every 2 years. Do i want England to win it? No. But the normal day to day supporters have more sense about the expectations than guys like Liniker, Shearer, Dixon etc

Yeah that's a really good point from Benty, I always hear from fans on here critisicing Southgate because they think he hasn't beaten any good teams when in reality he's beaten plenty of quality teams. Benty is right. England have only ever won one title, 58 years ago and have been riding on that ever since. If Southgate wasn't there, England would have a really great chance to win their second title at the Euro's. Simple.
Yes, England are a level above Wales, but France, Portugal, Spain, and Argentina are a level above England. I love nothing more than seeing English tears roll down English cheeks when they go out of a major tournament. In fact, when I'm down, i like to watch England's loss to Croatia in the 2018 World Cup semi-final and i feel my spirits suddenly soar. You are perennial bottlers and it is wonderful.
So if you are from any of the other Home Nations you give yourselves a Free Pass and none of them have ever succeeded in any major Football Tournament.

I'm an English football fan and in my long lifetime, I've rarely come across an arrogant England fan. In the pub, where drunken bravado comes to the fore, I've never heard one England fan say "we're going to win this tournament" before it's started. We're realists. We usually have a decent team that's capable, but we know that isn't enough. The only time I've heard boastful, arrogant comments, is in the workplace. Where we try to annoy the f*ck out of our Scottish, Welsh and Irish workmates. 😂

As always, the peasants are just pawns of corrupt governments /empires. And today we the peasants still breed hate and harbour resentment over historical wars and battles and acts of oppression which none of us ever wanted in the first place. I don't agree with the corrupt powers that be who run my country now and I like to think I wouldn't have agreed with them hundreds of years ago, but I still have to bear that inherited and unwanted cross for some reason, along with all the energy of hatred which accompanies it.

As good as England's current squad are they cannot possibly win the Euros. Saturday night showed you how things work. Bellingham miss-times one tackle and he is yellow carded. Paquetá commits 6 similar fouls and only gets one yellow card. Gomes did much the same and got away with it. As an England player you aren't just up against the hatred of fans outside England you are up against the hatred of officials from other countries. It stands out that I can only remember David Beckham being the only footballer to be sent off in an International friendly and he did a lot less than those Brazilians at the weekend. And you may say it's just yellow cards but they cost you at these tournaments.

Maybe it's because, despite the fact Wales are the only home nation to be in meaningful competition in this break, almost 90% of Talksport's (a UK broadcaster) coverage is about an England kit or a friendly.

As a Welshman, I can verify this. English arrogance and sheer lack of respect for the home nations [in sports or politics], is but a part of the reason for our support for the team playing against England. England always sike themselves out of winning, where "your fans" [if they can be called that] turn on your own players [as directed by media], and all one need mention is a penalty shoot out and England fall to pieces. Also, consider the sheer amount of funding difference of England's Football, Scotland's Football, Cymru's Football and Northern Irelands Football... Where, despite everyone and everything - we're still competing in the top rankings.

England have never been favorites for a tournament up until this year and it’s the media who build them up more so then the fans . The fans have been let down by bore performances in group stages only the euros and WC 2018 did the fans really think they had a chance . This tournament is different they genuinely have a chance absolute ballers all across the park. As an Irishman I don’t want England even been there but there’s no denying this is their biggest chance since 66 . They’ve had just as good a squad individually back in the 04-08 generation but southgate has created a harmonious squad the only positive thing he has done .

The notion that the English are arrogant is a total myth. In reality, hardly anyone believes we'll win when tournaments come around. English haters are just mad because of a song ffs lmao. This is what England fans don't understand. In club football, SQUADS win titles over a full season. In international football, TEAMS do. It doesn't matter how good the players that didn't make the bench are compared to the other teams first 11. There's a handful of games in quick succession. It becomes less about the entire squad and more about the first team and having a manager that can make changes whilst the game is happening in front of him that can help them win. And that is where we've always been short compared to other nations that we have better "squads" than.
Home nations are no different to San Marino or Albania. It's 3rd tier footballing countries and I don't care. Scotland is 2nd oldest footballing nation and never got out of group in a major tournament. And I don't want other home nations in the major tournament because it's like having England B or C team and makes the tournament boring.
Bent it's spot on. The moment England wins a game, "it's coming home" starts to be loud.
Darren Bent was an average footballer and is a well below average pundit.

We're definitely not arrogant - if we were, the Three Lions song (which is completely misunderstood/misrepresented) wouldn't exist - but if we are, then if we can find a team that is capable of dominating, 'arrogance' will turn into a terrifying trait, just as it did with the France team that won everything in site during the late 90s/early 2000s. That team were like the Harlem Globetrotters for a period, and the French, much like us, are always labelled arrogant by other nations.

Benty needs to get out a bit more…the arrogance tends to come from the fake news media and SOME presenters on talk shows. I’d rather see a British team do well, as long as they’re not screwing us in some way. At club level there’s a few exceptions and I think the majority of football patriots would feel the same way. England is the largest and dominant country in our great union and our history among the home nations(I’m not talking footie)isn’t particularly favourable to the rest. Most of’em will have a reason or ten to hate us historically. However as a British patriot, proud Englishman and a football supporter, I like to see our nations do well…as long as they don’t do better than us.🏴🇬🇧⚽️🇬🇧🏴

Have you listened to the Its coming home lyrics it's actually about England having hope and being let down. It's English humour about our team being the plucky losers. Darren Bent is talking rubbish. I’ve never known any fellow England fan say to me that we are definitely going to win a tournament and we are better than Brazil or Spain etc. We are always self critical and assume that the best we’ll get is losing in a quarter-finals on penalties. The real anti-English sentiment goes back hundreds of years, but then was cemented with our idiot fans in the 80s, and that stigma has stuck. Once the Premier League became so big, that gave foreign fans another reason to dislike us, so I believe it’s the media, and all the reason stated above that makes other countries hate us, not that us fans are arrogant and bigheaded.
As a Welshman i would support Scotland if they got further than wales in a tournament. But would never support england in any sporting event. Ever.

I stopped watching international footy after the 1970 world cup, was only a young kid but seen through all the dodgy things going on and the corruption in FIFA its been going on before and after Blatter,why hasn't the world cup been held in England since 66 quite a few countries have held it more than once.ill stick to league footy and watching my local team.england aren't arrogant,the fans act like gobshites after a few pints but other countries fans act worse without ale and nothing gets said.
