  • Yay another bingo video! I might have to steal this Benjamin and conduct my own list… we’ll see. Lies of Locke Lamora is phenomenal! One of my favorite reads so far this year. Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss is a good one for the “bard” read. I can’t remember if the main character actually gets called a bard at any point but he definitely acts like one at times. I would love to see you read ACOTAR for the romantasy read (although I don’t think it would get you the hard mode) Babel I think would 100% count for hard mode because the university is Oxford.

    @DiggerdanReads@DiggerdanReads29 күн бұрын
    • Oh I didn't realise Babel was Oxford, that sounds perfect then, I have been hearing great stuff for that book! I have had Name of the Wind on my shelf for years and years, but the idea of starting a trilogy who's end is in such a questionable state is a bit scary. ACOTAR was on my maybe list for something to read this year, I may end up reading it still. I'd love if you did a bingo video!

    • I can’t blame you, I read Name of the Wind a couple of years ago and loved it but at the time I didn’t realize climate around Rothfuss. I read ACOTAR early last year, trying to convince my wife to read it and get her more into fantasy, and it wasn’t the worst thing I ever read (like I understand why people hate/heavily dislike it) it just made me realize that romantacy just isn’t for me. But I am glad I read it since so many people talk about it

  • For romantasy, I recommend Silver Under Nightfall by Rin Chupeco. Romace isnt exacly the main plot but its a big part of it. Its kind of horror/fantasy about vampires and theyre queer and polyamorous. Its literally queer Castlevania.

  • I can address a few of your doubts: Into the Drowning Deep's action is primarily on the ship, not underwater, so it won't fit hard mode (though the spookiest scene is deep under). How to Lose the Time War's entire vehicle is a queer romance. Not the kind people mean when they say romantasy but technically fits the prompt text. This isn't advice but I'm surprised you're not doing a Warhammer for the orc square! Ancillary Justice is way darker and more serious than Murderbot, and also way better imo. The main character is a splinter of a Culture-esque ship Mind out for revenge. Anyway, subscribing to see if Ghost Station is worth the read, good luck with the blackout!

    • Wow thanks for the detailed response! I cannot believe I didn't think to do a Warhammer book for the Orc, or Ork now, square. I guess because there hasn't been much written from their perspective, but Brutal Kunnin' has been on my maybe TBR for a long time, 100% the book for this square! Thank you so much for nudging me in that direction :D Yeah I am really looking forward to Ancillary Justice!

  • For "romantasy", if u want/can do something more sci-fi I would highly recommend both of Everina Maxwell's books, which are both queer! The world building is done very well and the romance is also very good but doesn't overpower the speculative elements! I think it would be a more traditional choice than This Is How You Lose The Time War, though! Also, The Goblin Emperor is excellent!

    @Lila-vg1od@Lila-vg1od19 күн бұрын

    • @@BenjaminsBookclub full disclosure, I DNF’d it. It did a think I hate where we start with new characters and then all the sudden they’re gone and we’re working with all new people. It wasn’t the young feeling content that was the problem though. Maybe some of the first people we met come back into play but I had got to like 65% or something like that and we were STILL getting new POVs and nothing of the old people i had got used to. If that doesn’t bother you then I wouldn’t be worried about the age range

  • For Romantasy, I think This is How You Lose the Time War counts! Another book I just read that is a horror-romance is The Woods All Black (and is LGBTQ+ for hard mode). Be warned there's a few real spicy scenes which I wasn't expecting 😅 I haven't read it yet, but the Gilded Abyss is a sci-fi book with an LGBTQ+ relationship that I believe counts as well.
