    • Adam is the kind of person who would take pride in, and work on, drawing great circles. It was really impressive, even more so that he was doing it flat on the table, not like the full arm swing you see others do on chalkboards... Tangent thought, have you seen Walter Lewin's dotted line technique on chalkboards?

  • Isn't the bone cage swing portion flawed because they made it out of steel instead of bone? Perhaps it would have been easier to swing if it were much much lighter which it would have been if it were actual bone construction. I understand the impracticality of testing actual bone construction but it bugs me when they don't mention stuff like that even.

  • The alcohol barrel rocket attempt, just shows a total ignorance of physical properties of liquids in equilibrium with their vapour. There is this thing called “vapor pressure”, which is characteristic of each liquid and depends entirely on temperature. That is why the pressure inside a cylinder of propane or ammonia will remain the same all the way until there is a drop of liquid in the cylinder.

    @Nivola1953@Nivola19532 ай бұрын
    • I don't know how relevant that is here given how it's an open system with combustion going on. The thrust does not come from vapor pressure but from the energy released by the combustion. The reason the empty barrel had more thrust is because it had a better fuel to air ratio. You can';t really have pressure in an open system, the pressure will be the same as the outside air.
