Adam and Jamie test the movie cliché that if cornered on a rooftop, a convenient way to escape is to dive into a rubbish-filled dumpster.
Using science as a tool, Hollywood special effects experts attempt to debunk rumours, urban legends and popular myths that have captivated the minds of many individuals.
#MythBusters #FactOrFiction
fun fact: the helmet was vintage and RENTED, discovery had to repay full price on the helmet because it was destroyed
I think at this point if you rent to the Mythbusters you know you’re probably not getting that helmet back LOL
Does that mean there was once a real meatman? This happened to someone?
@@ryanbuckley3314 Oh yes, multiple someones in fact. The danger of this was well-known even during this suit's heyday to the point it couldn't even be called a myth in the first place.
@@ryanbuckley3314one of the most famous was the Byford Dolphin incident. Happened via diving bell, not suit but the dangers of explosive decompression is very well known in saturation diving. Happens rarely in recreation diving but it’s a real risk with oil rig divers.
Some poor sap had to still scrape MeatMans remains! I’m glad the owner was compensated for the loss of an antique
Who else is on a myth busters marathon?
Lost my legs in The war, can't run. Thanks for the question though, I had just forgotten.
😂😂😂no not me. Not at all
There will be a loss of productivity today for an odd reason. Lol
The pacing and repetition get To get the episode to fill the full runtime, the show repeats The show itself The show repeats itself and goes over the same information to pad its run time by repeating stuff. It's kinda nauseating.
Some pig: "When I grow up I want to be molded into a horrifying flesh golem" Mythbusters crew: "Say no more"
Make a wish foundation but for animals.
it looked like the skeletons that wear human skin in kenshi
Me too, pig. Me too
Reading this comment spoiled my reaction 🤣 I should have not seen this comment before it happened.
Hell yeah, die for science, what a way to go ngl
You've got to appreciate Kari's skills with making this mini-Grant sculpture.
She did an awesome job, though I cannot unsee the butthead grin at 11:53

Super excited to see these being posted onto KZhead for everybody to watch with no strings attached. My favorite days in school were when my science teacher would pull up an episode of MythBusters while teaching the scientific method.
😢 I love how Mythbusters was randomly recommended to me recently. But now im reminded of two good people who arent here anymore. R.I.P. to both of them. They both made days at school much more enjoyable.
Considering that Adam & Grant both worked in the props department on all of the Matrix films (except perhaps the last one), I'm not surprised he decided to pull off a Neo costume for the Dumpster Dive. He's got quite the resume if anyone were to look. He worked on some of the Star Wars films, too (Episode I & II, if I recall correctly).
Rest in peace Jessie. Rest in peace Grant
jessie died? wtf when was that?
@@morris2512 2019, a year before Grant. Died due to an accident while tackling the land speed record - apparently one of her wheels hit something, which caused her to crash at nearly 550mph. She did get to break the record tho, thus Jessi holds the title of fastest woman of planet earth and fastest woman on 4 wheels.
@@AeonLibertas she deserved that title. Rip Jessi
@@AeonLibertasdamn thats a shame rest in peace
Jesus that is terrible.
I'm impressed by the amount of sponsorships they were able to squeeze in every single episode.
i watched this the first time it aired . my kids sat an watched it with me an at the moment the meat man went squish into the helmet my oldest daughter barfed up her dinner . great episode to watch but i dont recommend people with weak stomachs watch this on a full stomach .RIP MR Grant Imahara and lady Jessi Combs you are both missed so much
You could say, the pressure was just too much
It's crazy that Jessi died by crashing that drag car at well over 500 mph which is absolutely Insane in the membrane, you know she definitely died immediately on impact going that fast! Why did you do it Jessi, why, why why??!!!!!
Kids in this day and age are just weak minded all together. I blame parents for caving to society. Just because something is less than appealing doesn't mean you should remove it from your kid's life. If you made people kill the animals they eat, there would be a lot more vegetarians.
@@LONEWOLF-rq5tl because she was doing something she loved. If it makes you feel better she did earn the title of fastest woman on earth. Posthumously, but she still earned it.
@@LONEWOLF-rq5tlshe was into cars and speed well before mythbusters. In fact, she was already a TV host and auto fabricator on Xtreme 4x4
The diving-thing is cool - but imagine that's your buddy down there and that is what you have to pull up after he died. Yikes.
Not a pretty way to go...
But normally the valve shuts and the diver would throw off the lead weights and ascend. The lead belt is on a quick-release so that you can quickly unclip it and ascend when needed. There is enough air inside the suit for several minutes of useful consciousness.
@@MrMarinus18 You'd get the benz if you rose to rapidly
@@stephen7690 Indeed and you would be injured but you likely wouldn't die.

Jamie’s little wave on the x lift😂
Holy preggo I completely forgot that Kari basically went full term while on the show 😂 what a champ
why?
@@maromega432 why what?
This made me think of Oceangate and put it in perspective for me
Implosion at 3000+ depth underwater. They probably heard some creaking just before it happened too.
"Live to bust another day"💀💀💀
Love this episode, I also love Jamie's little cheeky wave to the camera at 44:17 , and the music they added in is just the proverbial icing on the cake!
Damn it makes you think how brave those divers were, and are. What a horrible way to go
Absolutely horrific. And it's not instant either, you would still be conscious at least for a little bit while your insides are getting squeezed into the helmet.
@@VagueDrake surely if it's a myth it hasn't happened often.
Back when TV was actually interesting. Sucks that Grant & Jessi are both gone. RIP to both.
Yes I wonder if the "New Golden Age of TV" is over. Nothing amazing like Breaking Bad anymore. Nothing super funny like The Office. Nobody pushing the limits like South Park. And while they may have been earlier nothing truly defining like Friends or Seinfeld
*What happened to Jessie?!?* Edit, I just looked it up. Jet powered car crash. Very sad...
@@classifiedveteran9879 To be fair, she died doing what she loved at record-breaking speeds. She lived more than most and died quicker than average, doesn't seem like you can ask for much more in this life.

I remember discovering Mythbusters in Season 2. I saw it on a Friday, and that weekend Discovery was playing a Mythbusters marathon all weekend. I completely binge watched it.
The helmet myth is one of my favorites because I love old vintage dive suits like that.
RIP Grant Imahara and Jessi Combs…
Omg I didn’t even know they passed how sad
@@Rareist Grant died via a brain aneurysm and Jessi died via injuries suffered during a land speed record attempt in a rocket car.
@matthewlo7868 Yea, she was known as the "Fastest Woman on Earth". She was going 523 MPH when something destroyed her front wheel assembly. She was brave as hell.
So sad… Grant was crazy smart and seemed like a cool guy and Jessi was beautiful and brave as hell. It makes these episodes kinda sad to watch knowing they are gone😢
Wow. I didn’t know this. Sad
Adam is such a cringe lord with his costumes, I love it
I know...there is just something so wonderful about just loving something and not caring what others think.
I envy his confidence.

The introduction of Jessi to the show! Great, thanks for sharing.
Thank you for posting a full video!
Every time they do tests that pertain falls, I thank my pops for putting me in roller skates at 3 years old (and then on a horse when I was 8). That shit was terrifying at first but, boy, did it teach me to fall without hurting myself.
Assumably by falling and hurting yourself?
@@wingerding no???
This was one of my favorite episodes as a kid
Got really sad when jessi popped up, I saw her at a race some months before she died and she yelled at the crowd “I love you all”. Sad stuff
That intro was hard, seeing grant and jessi. Its still hard to believe :(
It's still hard for me to watch the old episodes but once I settle in I smile remembering them and how wonderful they were / are. God bless them both.
Man I miss watching these dudes do random stuff on tv
This is my favorite episode
Thank you, I didn't see this episode at the time.
Oh Jessi... life in the fast line is short but for sure full of fun.
I remember seeing this when I was younger ❤
nightmare fuel
That implosion is terrifying!! Probably the only time I was like WTF watching Mythbusters
This is as close as we could get from seeing how the people of the OceanGate submarine likely died months ago, albeit it happening *much* faster.
I don't think that's correct. The people in the ocean gate would likely be suddenly crushed as a result of the collapse of the pressure vessel. They wouldn't be extruded into a lower pressure region since there isn't some connection to a lower pressure region.
It happened in 2 milliseconds at a depth of 12,500ft. The whole inside submarine became the area of lower pressure, so no one got sucked anywhere. Though the principal is similar, the application had vastly different results
it would be closer to being in a soda can as it got run over by a truck.
ı remember the first time that I watched this episode. man the memories it made me sooo happy.
This was filmed before the internet was turned into a safe place. I've never seen this episode, pretty cool!
Awesome
Lots of large scale buildings in my area actually have dumpsters full of recyclables. Mostly cardboard, cans, paper, etc. I can only assume as we make more into easier access to recycling, or just enforcing it this cliche of diving will be more and more plausable. Given that the objects in a recycling pile are generally soft, they would disperse the energy of the fall pretty safely.
Wish there was an episode where they tested the Diving Suit on a vacuum chamber. To see if the Diving Suit works on space (which I think will not).
Imagine getting pulled over while transporting “meat man” to the testing sight. I’d like to see Tori talk himself out of that one.
dude i had no idea that she was so talented that was amazing.
Yes, I love this episode. Well any nautical themed myth episodes, really
Am I the only person who would donate my body to Mythbusters for science???
The pressure differential thing is kind of horrifying. I’d heard of it but always assumed it was at least quick. That really does not look quick.
rip Jessie 💚
And also RIP Grant…
The helmet crush depended on where the break was, the closer to the diver, the quicker the effect. Nasty either way.
As someone with a special interest in decompression incidents seeing the Mythbusters get excited over a simulated example is so surreal
Made me realize what really happened to the men on Oceangate
Yep the water pressure would be great and nope I’ll never go diving !!
I don't know how long it's been but my work called said if I'm planning to show up ... Lucky my boss is a Mythbusters fan too 😅
Every BMX rider knows this is possible since many of us have done that several times already. Foam pits are pretty common and 30ft high jumps as well
being a retired dm, i found this very interesting, thanks................
46:00 that's a nasty way to die
oh remembering those people inside the crushed titan submarine
What do we want? More myth busters. When do we want it? Now.
This episode reminds me of the Titan incident.
Ahhh the olde captain crunch 😅
and think about the fact that the Titan imploded at the pressure ~40x of the one in this episode. The walls (or i mean the shards because CF shatters) also had time to accelerate, as well as the whole thing happening so fast, that the air heated up to over 1000 celsius. so their bodies basically turned into some hot jelly in milliseconds. a diver in a scenario like in this episode would likely suffer for up to seconds, but the crew of the Titan could not possibly even realize, nor feel anything. it happened so fast, that the signals would not even reach their brains
@@8tyman8 oof but also uncontrollably lmao
some of the myths they test are absolutely horrifying... like was i the only one who was internally screaming watching that body dummy getting mulched? i can barely stand thinking about what it would be like to experience that as a living being...
Guess what, those diving suites, diving method still exists today!
"meat man" is just something i cannot get over.
Yeah, pain is Adam's best friend. Especially when Jaimie inflicts it on Adam!
27:37 this is how NEMESIS is created
12:59 🤣 25:16 🤣🤣 29:02 🤣🤣🤣

huh, is the episodes order correct? jessi appeared on s07e01, but was only introduced on s07e02?
The anxiety of jumping into a pile of rubbish Is insane for me Especially when People throw things out like knifes or sharp objects or broken glass Getting impaled is a big possibility 😮😮😮😮😮
Dumpster diving is one of those that it is not a good idea to jump into... But jumping onto concrete floor might be worse.
The bin diving into foam has been done millions of times. BMX, Skate and MTB (especially Slopestyle and FR) riders have been using foam pits for ages. Dudes have fallen a fair distance into the foam, biggest I've seen in person was a beautiful 10/10 faceplant from about 4m (13ft).
Rip Jessi, fastest women there ever was on land
What is the diving mask they used where they could speak with it on ?
they couldve rigged a mic inside it, or just recorded the lines over it in post.
Just thinking of "The Game". "Table for two".
Grandfather, nooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Those suits were for a lot of the Navy frogmen in WWI and WWII.
Forgot there was an episode featuring barotrauma
How many construction dumpsters are full of furniture foam?
Dumpster diving is my escape from the pressures of life.
Totally Awesome!!🤗 It took only 135 # of pressure to pull most of 🍖 Meatman into the helmet!! A bigger helmet would have held more meat!😁 An 18 wheelers tire holds about 135 # of air and can kill you if it explodes!! There are videos that show people being injured/killed unsafely mounting tires!
Come to Australia experience it for yourself
that mini Grant voodoo thing didn't age well at all :( RIP Grant.
I know Adam is the breakout star of the show in the KZhead era. But as I re-watch, I've come to appreciate Jamie more than I did during the original run.
Divers experience the most gruesome deaths.
You’re missed every day, Grant. ❤
I think Kari skipped the real test not because of her pregnancy but because she was grossed by the use of pig meat to make the analogue diver.
could be a bit of both
Most cardboard boxes you'll find in a dumpster will have been broken down and folded. I think that's the circumstance where your landing will have the most five
do yall think adam wanted to go first or no? 4:11
That meat guy is frightening as shit.
Adam got dem sussy boots on 🤨
Anyone on a mythbusters spree?
Gross but awesome episode.
Pallets seem to be repaired and reused more aggressively since this episode was shot, so that they’re probably less common in a random dumpster now. I still wouldn’t count on a soft fall into one. Where I live, a complex of 2-story condo buildings, the dumpsters are well away from the buildings and have covers… somewhat soft ones that might cushion perhaps a ten-foot fall. Household garbage inside, supposedly few or no recyclables.
Gentlemen...no need to argue. Porkenswine is the clearly superior name. 😂🤣😂
One could make the argument that since the show was based out of san francisco, the entire series was one big dumpster dive 😂😂
What a terrible....horrible...awful way to die.
Real quick though
The foam might be ok but it’s all bunched up and crooked I would want the foam all laying flat
Jaime had an FJ 40 nice!
im starting to thing tori has a few loose wires
