    • I was there and met him... I can say without a doubt that he's so chill and giving with his time. He was sitting down to eat and invited my wife and I to his table and then stood right back up to take selfies with fans. It took him almost an hour to eat a sandwich and he didn't seem to mind at all. Such a great dude and Juji was right along with him. So giving of themselves and very down to earth.

    • Yeah I watched a chunk of matches and all I could think is maybe it's a age thing? Like, I'm not really a sport person, a few years younger than him I think but his actions have been status quo for decades. Just S talking, nothing unsportsmanlike, like bucking an opponent, refusing to shake hands etc. I don't even want to say it's an age thing but no idea what else to think, there is definitely a lot more softer youngers peeps than ever before. Or lacking drive? Competitiveness? The fact he goes out of his way to teach tricks, which hurt him end of the day in a competition should say it all. My opinion anyways.

    • I train with Paul pretty often. The “fair” strap favors the long lever outside pullers cause with that strap running in under between the wrists make it harder for the inside pullers to get there.

      @stevensamaniego7047@stevensamaniego7047 Жыл бұрын
    • @@stevensamaniego7047 I don't find that true at all. The fair strap helps me much more inside as well as outside. Especially if I have the buckle. Since the hustle strap like Devon says runs from the opponents wrist to the buckle sides hand. A good toproller will be able to take your hand much easier since they can load that bottom strap into your hand much more effectively. If it was a big disadvantage to hookers it would show in WAF but that doesn't seem to be the case as inside pulling is still dominant especially in the smaller weight classes. Once you get bigger and bigger though the ability to contain bigger hands, gets much more difficult.

      @rileyneufeld7001@rileyneufeld7001 Жыл бұрын
    • @@stevensamaniego7047 but it still is fair, your way gives shorter levers an advantage they would not have because the strap is set up that way. With a fair strap neither side gets an advantage from set up but the longer lever naturally has the advantage. Sucks you guys have short arms tbh

      @3h0wn3dm8@3h0wn3dm811 ай бұрын
  • Devon's explanation about the strap makes sense. In the old-school way, Paul's wrist was bound to Devon's hand. In the newer way, Paul's wrist was bound to Devon's wrist. With the "fair" strapping, the naturally bigger guy will have an advantage, like Paul said, but I'm not sure if anything can be done about that. That's how it is in most sports.

    @MapleisCrack@MapleisCrack Жыл бұрын
    • Yeah the argument about the strap giving advantage vs the build of the athlete... it's not like they give wide receivers stilts to make them the same height as a DB.. or boxers arm ..stilts... you know what i mean. It's what it is. Messi is short, but he made it work for him. Maybe that can't be done here but such is the nature of of the sport.

    • Yeah it's like blaming of heights of the hoop in basketball.

      @rlynotabot@rlynotabot Жыл бұрын
    • The thing is, with the fair strap you let the genetics be a part in it. That's what you have in any kind of powerlifting, your genetics are a part of it. Shorter arms bench press more on average, while long arms have better backs. In arm wrestling, it's just unfortunate that the longer arms win in the fair strap or have an advantage, but you can't cut genetics advantages and give them to the opponent. That's just not fair. It s*cks, but it is the more logical option, till they invent something new that's more "fair". I have short arms and it is what it is, I deal with it. If I have stronger arms and good traps I can flop wrist that sh*t like Jerry. Work on yourself it's always better than complaining about the fairness of the sport, cuz some guy who is more knowledgeable is going to prove you wrong. Todd has somewhat small hands, of course he's going to fight for a better strap for himself and Devon might do it the same. In the end, to let genetics take part in it, it's the more logical option, for now at least imo.

      @SergiuNw@SergiuNw Жыл бұрын
    • I didn't like Paul's ignorance to even listen to Devon. He clearly realizes the old way helps him so he want to stick with it. The fair strap means, no advantage for either side or in the case of someone at a disadvantage, they'll get no extra benefit from the strap.

  • One of the coolest things about John is that, because of how good a dude he is, he attracts other good dudes to him as friends. Then we get exposed to them as well. We don't even have to do any work!
