  • I am 31 years old and have been skating for 20 years and I will sometimes have multiple bad sessions in a row and I start thinking the same thing of "I wasted my life" but lately I've been reminding myself of the stuff I learned from skateboarding that has helped me in MANY aspects of life. The main one being "Success isn't determined by how many times you fall over but how many times you get back up" and let me tell you from personal experience that has helped me in so many fields that have nothing to do with skateboarding. So regardless of where you end up with skating there is always something you learnred from skating even if you don't realize it.

    • For sure man. Well said. Skating taught me discipline and I apply it to how I am learning music and have been playing since a very young age. But ever since I started skateboarding my ability to learn an discipline myself has been much stronger

    • If you're still physically healthy and non injured and can still pursue a hobby like that then you're doing fine. Count your blessings bro, not saying that in a condescending way at all btw but we're lucky we can still be young and healthy even in our 30s. I can't skate anymore for the time being due to bad ankle injuries but there's other things I can still pursue in the mean time. Skating is great and ill always take the lessons I learned and use them in other areas of life even if im no longer participating in the sport

    • @@littlereviews I would actually say thats another huge by product of skating is that you learn how you learn. My wife thinks I'm so intelligent when really I know how to google stuff and teach it to myself 😅

    • one thing ive learned from skateboarding is particularly slams. some days will be downright awful for me and then when i skate and take a good slam weirdly enough i get back up in a different mood, laughing at my own mistakes. Essentially i say "i never felt so alive!" And then go on about my day because it really could be worse, and i thank the skies that i am able to skate and breathe another day.

  • I'm 39 and I used skateboard 25 years ago. I stayed active until 2022 with athletics and exercise. a few months ago my older brother who's a doctor in Chicago started sending me some skate videos and so I bought a board thinking I'd relearn how to ollie and kickflip and elevate my cool dad status a little. It's been a lot of fun and I really like your content. I love the way that you use the music and in the videos and how the skating flows with the beat. I also love that you'll use more classical or jazz and not just hip hop or aggressive rock. I like your interviews a lot too. Great work

  • Hey John, Also Thanks John. I would also like to share a quick story. About determination, and the difference between effort and failure. I am 30, I have been making KZhead content for over 12 years, i live in the middle of nowhere and do not drive, and also can not afford to drive. I work a job i car pool too to pay bills for classes i took to escape where I am, that never panned out. There are no skateparks, there arent many people and the other half of the year, Where i am is called a dead/ghost town. I have no real choice other than to be where i am and dig myself out to get away. Failure is accepting that everything sucks and it isnt gonna change, or by the time it does you will be too old. I make because If i dont, ive given up, even when i make it i have other people i can help, there is so much life left. I am alone, struggling, doing what i can now to get out, determination is recognizing the situation, and doing what it takes to over come it, failure only happens when you give up. For a long time i felt like my life wasted away, but you inspired me recently to skate again, well alot in my life made me skate again, i felt lost and turned to something i knew made me feel good, and alive, and it did. It took me from depressed and lonely, to hopeful and invigorated. My only dream is to be somewhere where winter isnt 9 months of the year thats about it.

    @Zephyrian1st@Zephyrian1stАй бұрын
    • Hey dude I' m in a kinda similar situation, but I drive. Where I live there aren't many skaters and they mostly quit from time to time, they get replaced by younger guys and then they quit too. I had to drive 26/27 km to get to the nearest park and most of the time there is no one there. So I will get really sad or angry sometimes thinking that I must be the only one in my area loving skating to the point of keep doing it even by myself. I know you can't drive but have you tried bus or trains? You really need to skate somewhere else if you wanna change that feeling. I know it's hard when you work and I know you need to spend more but itsl's worth it every time to skate in a cool park with skaters that are better than you. Trust me

Na just gotta do me, stay positive and get on the hustle to make sure I can be out of here and live somewhere I'm free from the miles and miles of nobody desolation, to a spot where I can be me. I think that's a very good goal to strive for.

I’ve committed so much of my life to photography, it was a lot easier when I was younger but for the first time I’ve been to questioning my path, wondering if maybe I coulddd work a 9-5 etc. recently come to a similar point where as long as I’m centring creativity, and I have my needs met, I’m chillnnnn. • Totally gel with this. I went fron skateboarding to professional skateboard filming (managed to film for the Bones video, the Deathwish video, and made my own skate film) to then being a professional animator. Then after having worked on a few TV shows I decided to stop doing that and make a video game. Life is about finding what challenge gets you juiced and chasing that and realising that it doesn't need to fuel you forever. Im in my 30s now and a lot of my friends that I grew up with skating have kinda figured out the same thing. I think the unique thing skateboarding teaches you is the joy of trial and error. And I find skateboarders around my age always have the most interesting life paths, its beautiful. Great video, thanks for sharing!

Plus, I love listening to music while skateboarding, there is a lot of emo/pop punk songs out there and I always discover new music while having a blast. So really for me it never feels a waste. What made me feel like a waste is sitting on a couch, eating cheetos all day😭😭

  • @JohnHill - As a 41yo and also as my 3rd year anniversary skateboarding actively at least once a week approaches why does it feel recently that doing street (after doing a lot of transition) does it feel like I'm starting again? If someone was to watch my skate vids recently... I look amateur. But I have other times months and years ago that transition and vert ramps were my best work. Just a thought I'm throwing out there.

  • You are very gifted, based on the video. Well we are not wasting the life, we just keep falling, and sweating like on drugs, after 30... it's entirely different perspective for every ones self body.
