  • i feel like skateboarding isn't as "cool" as it was in the late 90's early 2000's so it makes sense that it would be less "profitable". doesn't mean people cant enjoy it still.

    • I didn’t even skate back then but it’s definitely my favorite era. Because street skating was still young and every year skaters did what was thought impossible the year before. Plus skate videos stayed relevant longer than a week.

    • idk i mean i just got back into skateboarding after 7 years and my brothers just got into it for the first time, even in out little city ive seen a lot of skaters that are young kids coming up so it might be on an upturn

    • It seems to me Skateboarding has gotten “smaller” meaning there’s less money to be made by most skaters because the market is so flooded. Skateboarding has gotten bigger but more companies are fighting for money. And it seems more kids are being sponsored every day. This is from a guy who grew up skating in the 90’s when it was small. Skatings bigger than it’s ever been and the ironic thing is there’s less money to be made unless you’re a top tier skater.

    • I still think people in Gen Z/Zoomers are not doing said sport becuse they can't even afford life and why I think around the world death rates in normal countries that are first world or 1.5 like USA are happing for Gen Z/Zoomer and worse Gen Alpha are planning on killing themselves at __ age due to life around them or 18 if in good families just barely in lowest middle class knowing person will never make it in world becuse of cost of living.

  • Nice upload! Cheers! I have been practicing skating a curved ledge similar to this, but I haven't been able to really string multiple tricks together on it yet. I skated in the 90's a lot thru 2005. Stopped for a while but always wanted to pick up the board again. I have all the scars to prove it too! lol I just got back into skating about two years ago. However, I live in NE Pennsylvania and our winters are cold and snowy. So, I cant skate much during the winter months which sucks. Only one indoor skatepark and its horrible with wayyy too many people trying to skate or ride scooters at the same time. I would like to build a mini ramp on my property, but need something to dampen the noise of going back and forth as I am in a residential neighborhood and it might piss off the nice neighbors I have. Maybe for now a Keen Ramps slap stick for the driveway might be the only way to go. Anybody have any experience with Keen Ramps? Those guys seem to really know what they are doing and if I do buy online, I would go with Keen I think.

  • The tail 50 180 was ace! I like more original moves. Cool your getting into IP. It seems like that market requires a lot of people investing in it. Kind of like selling Nikes. If there wasn’t a market or resell demand they wouldn’t be profitable. I own a bunch of IP. The issue I have is it stops competitors but you can’t license as brands don’t want pay a royalty so they will wait 15 yrs on your patent to expire? Thats my experience. I have brands interested just no one will follow through. Cool vid keep at it!

  • This topic is beyond skateboarding. This can go deep into economics. Just by doing a little research on KZhead you can see economically things are becoming astronomically more expensive, food, gas, rent, vehicles, health care! interest rates soaring through the roofs! Insane markups on vehicles with loose value over time due to scarcity. I could go on forever honestly. If a sport that could jeopardize your health, can't provide the proper incentives to keep you in good health, and living decently in societal norms, skateboarding may be nothing more than a hobby for 90% of skaters, and the remaining 10% can reap the spoils. Then skateboarding will become a shadow of its former self.

  • There are plenty of factors to look into, places to skate, local interference(Karens), overall coverage. And a few others. But I’ve seen from a dude growing up from the 00’s into my 20’s now, Xgames, Action Sport Video Games, MTV stuff like that were WAY more popular and in the know in a general public sense. All action sports were growing rapidly in that era. But once each individual thing started to slowly get drowned out but life factors, growing up, war, or public outrage getting more intense and effective hindering kids wanting to just go outside. I won’t blame video games or phones for keeping kids inside as we all know dudes who spent hours in THPS that wanted to still go out and ride, just like skate did in the later 00’s. But when you go to a skatepark and have a mom yell at you from her house across the street cause “youre too loud” and the cops keep showing up, and restrictions keep forming, it becomes more and more common to just say “screw it” and go find something else to do. I’ve gotten yelled at for riding my bike outside with my tiny puppy in front of my house by some lady who didn’t even live in my neighborhood, her interaction was so frustrating to me as an adult I can totally understand why kids would not want to deal with that at all.

  • As a veteran in this industry, I just will say a few words. Even though knee pads and other protective gear might seem stupid to some, but get some and wear it if you dont want knee/leg problems when you get slightly older. My knees and ankles are so sore these days from falling and bailing years ago. If I could go back in time, I would wear it. Atleast at the minimum, wear some knee guards and teach yourself "How to Fall" It can be the difference between really hurting yourself or just dusting off. I wear all guards except a helmet (I do use a helmet when skating transition though) Once you get used to wearing protective gear out to skate, I feel better because I know if I do fall, I wont get too hurt!

Before I had to stop skating in 98 because of serious back problems, hardflip back tailslide was one of my last tricks I learned & it looked cool as hell! Tre flip noseslides, half cab kickflip front noseslide, inward heel tailslides - yeah they're hard to do, but isn't that the point? They were ticks we watched Daewon do, so we learned them, but I don't see them done anymore. Why??

You wrote a book to sell, you generate extra income from KZhead/social media, so you are a prime example of not strictly skating, and a good example because you exhibit the hustle and grind and drive to do what it takes as a pro in all avenues. Skateboarding also doesn’t have retirement or benefits. Just a reality we all grow into as we get older and still skate. Definitely gonna check availability on your book for my kids though!
