You guy often make predictions the day before a race, stage or an entire stage race, and it would be great if you could cite, maybe right before the profiling of the route, if your prediction from the day before came true. • Don't know why but watching this stage reminded me that Pogi and Jonas are still on another level even compared to Remco and Roglic. There is no world where Pogi doesn't, if he was here, win this stage, and Jonas would have surely won too.Also I've got no idea why Remco is so brutally conservative in stage races nowadays. Yes he might not have had it today but still he should have just tried on the second to last climb or even before that.

  • It seemed as though QS & Remco possibly knew that Remco was not on a great day, thus they thought that UAE would take care of keeping the stage together for everyone while defending the leaders jersey. If I assume that Remco was not on a great day, then my bigger question was why was UAE not doing more to defend the jersey? It seems ridiculous to think that UAE were just sitting there thinking that Remco would eventually blast-off at some point.... I definitely agree with Patrick that the way that this stage played-out was perplexing.

    @ShawnIsBatman@ShawnIsBatman2 ай бұрын
    • Why should UAE? - they don’t have any of the top favourites. Plapp and Buitrago are more active threats to ineos, bora and quickstep who all have more numbers than UAE in the final. Not to mention Almeida and McNulty lost about about ten seconds to Remco on the final climb so maybe weren’t feeling good (climbs don’t really suit them either).

    • @@animetributes6996 How many of the stage races he has ridden has he won in the same amount of time though? That’s the better statistic to use. Roglic has won GTs and one-week races because currently the best two GC riders did not challenge him. In 2022, Jonas was still doing domestique work for Roglic. The races where Roglic beat Pogacar was mainly due to him being able to team up with Vingegaard and attack with two leaders.

      @Soli11@Soli112 ай бұрын
    • @@animetributes6996 The point is that Pogi's race-craft (consistently demonstrated in one day races and stage races) is much higher than the field here. Roglics stats in GC versus Pogi have limited relevance because because (1) they have inherently different race calendars, Roglic preferencing stage races whilst Pogi mixing in one-days (2) Pogi has actually finished ahead of Roglic in more races when they've both started (3) Roglic has demonstrated less race IQ than Pogacar, and Pogacar having a better one-day record (in which race-craft makes a bigger difference). Finally, Pogi lost the last two TDF based on climbing performance vs Jonas.

In my opinion they let him go and expected UAE to chase because they are currently so in control of GC and if they chased remco could just sit in behind the yellow jersey's train. Also they are only halfway through the 8 days so if remco takes yellow now he will have a target on his back with UAE's superteam and 3 leaders to control him and stop him for the next 4 GC heavy days.

  • Roglic is chilling. He knows he will win and doesn't waste energy on useless attacks for a few seconds😮

    • There's no difference in the effort Roglic gave and what the other GC favorites gave in the last 500m, if he was strong enough to win the sprint for 3rd he ABSOLUTELY would have

    • Roglic will never attacking like Plapp or Buitrago. Group of GC was losing time at the final climb to Santiago because he was faster then Wilder, simple.

    • Nah, this had Roglic written all over it. He simply didn’t have what it took.

    • What? He clearly didn't have the legs today, and barring a miracle he's not winning this race. He's way behind after the TTT, and depending on the weather saturday there's like 1 or at most 2 stages left where he can make any sort of GC difference. You think he's just going to give away seconds on a finish that's usually his bread and butter? No.

    • He was criticising UAE for not catching the two riders in front, so I very much doubt that he sat back and just allowed them to go.
