It used to be John Elway before Luck came along.

@@philthyrich007wasn’t a better prospect tho
Every year! I’m trying to understand how size does not get considered with this guy. Every quarterback in the top 5 draft position has arm talent. Size is not to be overlooked at the quarterback position, it’s paramount to be an effective passer from the pocket!
So full of sh*t, nobody was saying that bout the prospects over the last 2 years. Caleb clearly has no problem making noise on a bad team. Point is nobody has talked like this since Lawrence, pretending it's every year is an admission you don't watch football, it's just patently false to pretend the NFL acts this way usually. Blatant admission to not watching football.
To be fair, Staubach was the Heisman trophy winner, he was drafted so low because he had a minimum of 4 years of military service before he could be released to play pro football.

goff is so underrated almost went to his second sb i say that’s living up
Andrew Luck was the only #1 pick QB that actually backed his hype, but his o-line was so horrible that eventually ended his career early. Which was the organization’s fault because they should have drafted Offensive lineman 1st and 2nd rounds in the following drafts or put some money in free agency for O-lineman
What ? Payton manning ? Cam Newton ? Kyler Murray ? Burrow? Goff? Stafford? Eli ??
@@Vorzillaluck was him
@@babydriver8844 so was Payton Manning
Manning finished that 1998 rookie season with his career-worst numbers across the board, including completion percentage (56.7), total yards (3739), interception percentage (4.9), total touchdowns, yards per attempt (6.5), and yards per game (233.7) in what would be a 17-year career.

2000 pass attempts is crazy work lol
Only time anybody runnin on offense is to catch a ball lol. Prevent defense all game.
there is a simple reason for late 1st and later round picks working out more its because they end up on better teams early 1st rounders end up on the worst teams and usually end up bouncing through coaching and never the right chance
Exactly, a lot of people for go that
Thank you for saying the logical thing that the talking heads never consider.
Precisely, A lot of players careers get destroyed before they even truly start because they end up in a bad situation. Browns, Bears, Lions and Jets just to name a few teams who are notorious for ruining players in the past
Stafford got drafted to arguably the worst ever and he made it work. If you that guy, you that guy. You're getting drafted there because they think you're good enough to turn things around. More accurately those teams that are picking at the top are picking at the top because they don't pick the right players

Chiefs fan here and Texas Tech Alumni so you already know I love Patty Mahomes...and from what I can see about Caleb - I can't say he will be as successful as Patrick, but he has the same physical capabilities. If he keeps his head on straight, ears open, etc - he will become a premier QB in the NFL. You can't hate the guy just because he is being hyped by others or seems overconfident/self-centered - those are often things that happen and personality traits of someone who is great.

To be fair a QB going later in round 1 and so on.. they are on a better team based on supporting cast.
Bears fan here 😁
I think that with Caleb a lot of it is that he's been so hyped for so long. He's been the consensus number one overall sense before last year had even finished. Its been 2 years of everybody already knowing he was going number 1 overall, and i mean everybody, even casual fans who dont fallow draft stuff. So 1. a lot of people are wondering if he's worth that much hype to stay in that spot unquestioned even after having a down year. And 2. a lot of people are just tired or hearing or talking about him. Wemby was extremely hyped and a lot of more intense fans already knew he was coming and the splash he would make, but he wasn't even consensus number 1 overall until really that same year he was drafted and a lot of people had not heard about him at all until late into that same year or even after last years playoffs ended.
Nick does his homework love his takes
I usually think Nick is right about a lot, but he’s off on this one. Ive been hearing that Caleb is gonna be the number 1 pick for like 2 years now

They actually did think Manning’s career could be effectively over. It was absolutely in question
Was never a question of ability to play outright. Just a question of performance... And well, Manning would go on to throw for 5k yards and 55 touchdowns in the 2013 season. Just 2 years removed from the surgery.
Yep and Peyton COOKED. That broncos offense was spectacular special and legendary BUT the legion of boom? What they did to the greatness offense ever was godly. More of a defensive masterclass than the patriots vs rams
Yep absolutely
I'm from Indy. Many thought it could be career ending because it was a serious neck injuries about nerves he could never get back. Even when he had the plants put in many was questing if he could hod up. They were legit scared one wrong move not just his career but his life could be over.

Great take !!!
point of order, Roger Staubach went in the 10th round because all the teams new he had to serve his time in the Navy. If not for his Naval commitment he would've been the #1 overall pick of the 1964 NFL Draft.
Ehhhhh… that’s one of those things that makes sense in writing without critically thinking, but come on. If he truly, truly was the consensus #1 overall then I find it hard to believe he didn’t go in the second so he could get locked down at least. 10 rounds sounds unreasonably long if you know he’s the best and you can have him locked down for the future.

Trevor Lawrence was hyped immensely. I still dont see Peyton Manning in that guy.
True but Lawrence plummeted fast
@@VorzillaLawrence is still good overall. Back half of yr 2, he was elite. Last yr was a little up and down, but he had his moments. I do agree he's not generational. He's closer to level of Stafford vs Mahomes. Still above average though, plus he's still only 25.
@@brooksorlando4510 I think it's too soon to write Lawrence story bc look at Stafford. He came full circle
@@Vorzilla Oh yeah. Take in consideration too, he's in Jax. Pederson is above average fortunately, but it's a bottom 5/10 franchise for a young QB. They've had 3 1st Rd busts recently in Bortles, Leftwich, Gabbert. Lawrence has been good overall so far and he's young. I just don't know if he's ever gonna be a top 3-5 QB though
Man I love these takes. So much passion, factual evidence, wisdom, etc. I can’t wait to see how the top 4 QBs turn out by 2027
Nick “this my strong hand” Wright Lol
Caleb is clearly QB1 but drafting QBs is always a coin toss. Gotta put ‘em in a good situation, gotta stay healthy, etc. All of these guys are talented in different ways. What separates the good from the great? Intangibles.
If they win 10 its not because the qb change its because of the guys they brought in
Nick: the expectations on Wemby are unfair Also Nick: Caleb Williams is Mahomes 2.0
As an Irish fan, I enjoyed watching him get humbled and look pedestrian. He struggles against good defenses. 🙄👍
Lamar was the 5th QB taken at the end of the first round. He’s won 2 MVPs. Broussard is right, drafting can be a bit of a crapshoot for the QB position.
Lamar won his 2nd MVP with literally the worst QB stats ever for a MVP.... so....
Caleb is the product of the two top QB bust schools ever. USC and OU have the most #1 overalls that didn't deliver. He went to BOTH!!! I'm good on buddy
cj stroud came from osu, he delivered
Pretty dumb reason to be out on somebody. Cj stroud went to Ohio state who “doesn’t produce nfl quarterbacks”
Carson Palmer, Jalen Hurts, Baker?
You should go draft all Texas Tech qbs then..... The Bengals shouldn't have drafted Burrow because of JaMarcus Russell in your brain.
Stupid comment Kyler Murray Jalen hurts and baker mayfield are doing aight in the league and wouldn’t t consider any of them busts
I love how they all hear each other out. No egos
I love this trio!
Loving the historical context of Drafts. Good job, Nicholas

Caleb held the ball longer than any QB in college football during his career. The only nfl quarterback to hold on to the longer than Caleb does is Fields.
because he was running for his life on many plays trying to make something happen. His OL this season was very weak.
dude didn’t watch the season lmao
Mahomes holds the ball a while as well. It's still less important than accuracy, decision making, arm strength etc.
I actually watch college football and the ironic thing is Caleb and Justin have similar flaws and strengths. Caleb is better tho
@@jiordone8563you can't explain that to those idiots... Fields is holding on to the ball trying to give his outside of DJ Moore, mediocre receivers a chance to get open... but these clowns can't comprehend that
bears should take Olu Fashanu with the 9th pick. Keep building that O line . Don't want Caleb to run for his life like Fields or get injured like Burrow or Luck
Not a bad idea but I think take edge rush and pair him with Sweat man that would be a terror if JVerse and or D turner are good
I'm tired of Burrow getting hurt! Can he play the whole year this year???
It's hard to imagine Chicago looking at Caleb - a mystery box that might be a Porsche and might not be a Porsche, and turning down a trade for CJ Stroud, an actual Ferrari with 5K miles on it.

That's crazy, I couldn't trade Caleb fast enough for stroud
Teams who earn the #1 overall pick typically do so because they are a bad organization. When a good organization ends up with the #1 overall pick, they typically pick a great player. Lets remember how great the class of 2021 quarterbacks looked in 2022 before we speak about Bryce Young.

I'm from Chicago I can't wait for my bears this year it's our year
Nick is right that there’s a not small portion of bears fans that wanted Fields over Williams. And as a bears fan I really don’t get it. Even if Fields becomes a top tier dude he’s about to be paid and let’s be clear he’s NOT been that dude. I really hope he succeeds in Pittsburgh, but there was just never a doubt what the bears should do. Caleb is a better prospect, younger, and much farther away from his first contract lmao. And if the bears are sweating about paying Caleb in a few years then at least he’ll presumably be good enough to warrant a big contract. 👍
I mean I get you, just think it was a choice of Justin Fields and MHJ or Caleb and Allen. Allen is the same pay this year as Fields would have been next year. We will pay for talent one way or another. It will also take a while for Caleb to get acclimated to the NFL, unless we are extremely lucky and us Bears fans are not. CJ Stroud was a freak occurrence it does not happen often.

Could it be that a great QB coming to the worst team in the NFL is also a part of it as to why they don’t do as well? Going to the right opportunity also helps.
This is one of the conversations that would benefit from decent statistical analysis the most. Brou is picking exceptions and saying that since they happened, it is likely that you get a good qb outside the first round. It might be the case that most qbs outside the first round don't pan out, but a handful of exceptions exist. Also, it might be the case that amongst all time greats, some qbs outside the first round exist, while still the majority being highly drafted...
