His pressing, his work rate and his ability to hold onto the ball and create chances for his teammates is of value. • I’m in agreement with you Charles re Gabby Jesus. Injuries have no doubt been an issue, and the fact that Kai is only 6 goals off Jesus’ Arsenal career tally is damning - but when at his best there are few better attackers in world football in terms of what he brings - his ball carrying, versatility, hold up play, eye for a pass etc. A leader as well, brought straight into Mikel’s leadership group when he signed. I understand that in order to level up with each window we cannot be held back by emotion, but I can’t shake the feeling that Gabby has more to give. Unless he’s outright searching for a move, there are a good few more players that we should be looking to cash in on before we even begin to think about Gabby.

  • It wouldn't be the first time a Jesus had made a spectacular comeback. Gabi Jesus is still world class. He's a cut above the rest. A fit Gabriel Jesus is banging down the door to be a starter in this team. He's a winner. He's 27. He's staying at The Arsenal. I agree with you Charles, unless the medical team know his injury has left him with permanent limitations and is likely to resurface again and again - he's going nowhere. I don't believe this story. You know how it works in the media. Is it that one publication prints it - and then everyone runs with it? There's no quotes. Gabriel Jesus is a match-winner. A game-changer. He can make something out of nothing. Let's see if he can stay injury free next season - then have this conversation. Love the show Charles. Come on you Gunners! Jonny.

Sell both as long as appropriate replacements are bought. Btw, we must move on Eddie and Nelson. Both have not Arteta's confidence so no point occupying the bench while we cry for options tobchange a game. Think Villa.

  • Hi Charles - hello from a Frenchman in Chicago! Do you think Arteta needs/wants a left 8 that has powerful physical abilities? Last season we had Xhaka, this season it's been mostly Havertz or Rice playing there. Can that explain why ESR, Vieira or even Zinny and Trossard aren't getting regular game time in that position? Havertz, Rice and Xhaka certainly share that physicality, and also that durability, they can go full steam for 90min whereas the other 4 I named seem to be more 70min players. And also their availability, they're pretty much ready every week, never injured. Having some physical in that role protects and also brings the best out of Odegaard. ESR Vieira Zinny and Trossard can't bring that physical aspect even when they play at their best.

I would like him to stay but be utilised as a winger in rotation with Saka, Martinelli, and Trossard. He deserves a chance to properly get over his injuries. We should be bringing in a striker who has scored 15 a couple of seasons running. Not easy, I know.

Same for the central midfielders - depends on who we can get and how much we have to pay as to whether Partey stays or goes.

  • Hi Charles! My thoughts on the coming transfer window: 1. The top priority is a winger. In a dream world someone that can cover both sides. Between Havertz, Jesus and Trossard playing centre, I think support on the wing is most important 2. I would not sell ESR or Viera. I think they have loads of potential. We know Mikel plays with his first choice most times, so having players that can come in and out of the team is crucial 3. I think Kiwior and Tomiyasu are viable options for centre back support, but one signing for this position would be great Outside of this, I truly believe the team is in a great position. Utilise the young guys coming through for FA and Carabao. I personally think wholesale changes are not needed. And no way will they sell Jesus

  • An out and out deadly striker would lift the pressure of other positions. Right now I feel like we have to play well and with our best 11 at the time to win. With someone who can win games (or rather kill them off early) on their own with low percentage chances would mean we can play Hale End players or less trusted/out of form players in the attacking positions. A striker who could carry the team in easy game (a flat track bully like Haaland) and difficult moments would make such a difference.

  • Hi Charles Love from India, really appreciate the work you do. I was reading somewhere Arsenal have secured 40/45 points since 2024 and City have 39/45. We have scored the most goals, conceded the least yet it pains me to say that the title is still in City's hand. Had we played any other league we would have wrapped up the league by now. On the flip side it just shows how hard this league is, I mean Liverpool losing twice even after securing 90+ points is just bonkers. Also this season our record against the Big 6 has been incredible its really funny that we havent been able to win against Fulham and Villa including both home & away So my question is what next can Arteta do to end the trophy drought?????? At some stage I believe winning trophy does matter, no doubt we have come a long way but capturing trophies are an integral part of football and so far Arteta has won only the FA cup (if we dont include the Community Shield) and that FA cup was won by the defense of Luiz, Mustafi, Bellerin and co

  • This season Kai Havertz has played 10 matches in the Premier League as a CF, scoring 7 goals and making 6 assists. If he were to keep this rate up for a 38-game season he would be looking to score 27 goals and make 23 assists. These are otherworldly numbers and I'm not suggesting that Kai would do this. But seeing as Kai has played most matches as an attacking midfielder and only had a run of games up front from Gameweek 26 (Newcastle (H)), I think that we could use the funds elsewhere such as going big on a new midfielder and finding an able deputy for Saka on the right. Do you think Kai Havertz could continue this world class scoring form into next season?

  • As fans we think of a player having a specific position or positions. But modern coaches think of some players as being able to play in certain spaces on the pitch. I guess this is why most people doubted the Havertz signing whereas Arteta had a vision for his role. So when it comes to a new forward player, i agree we need another goal threat but it will likely not be a one.dimensional big man up front

  • I think between Havertz, G. Jesus, and Trossard, we're all set at striker for 85-90% of next season's minutes. All 3 have shown they can be effective leading the attack and with proper rotation it should hopefully keep G. Jesus better fit. What I think we need is an older, tall, strong player who we can get for relatively cheap and at his age is willing to take a smaller role late in his career on a team competing for the biggest trophies. Someone who is content being thrown on late in games when we're desperate for a goal, are having most of the possession, and need a big body with a goal scorer touch. Giroud would have been perfect had he not chosen to go to MLS. Someone available who does fit that mold is Luuk De Jong. 34 in August, I believe only 1 year left on his contract, and was a goal scoring machine this season at PSV.

  • For me you sell Nketia and keep Jesus. Looking at where we want to strengthen this Summer (Striker, cover for Saka and a new midfielder) Jesus is versatile and can provide good cover for Saka so we can focus this Window on a striker. I say we see how he gets on first half of next season before we consider selling as getting replacement would cost far more in todays market. After the Liverpool Spurs VAR catastrophe happened Ange said let the refs do their job and that he wouldn't question anything..... Separate concern of mine is our English quota..... If we are looking to sell Ramsdale, Nketia, Reece Nelson and ESR would we still be meeting the English quota? I only count Ben white, Declan Rice and Saka left. How much do you think we can raise from player sales this Summer? Obviously this would include Tavares, Lokonga, Tierny, Cedric (money saved from wages as he will prob go on free, as will Elneny). Does Fabio Viera go the on the keep or sell list? Tiraj

  • Love Partey and our midfield's been on another level these last two matches. Doubt anyone's going to offer big money for him so chances are sticks around for another year and the club gets to see if he can stay healthy and decide if it makes sense to extend his contract. I'm really hoping to see Timber in the midfield alongside MO & DR and the long-term plan has always been to have him end up there. My guess is MA was trying to squeeze him into the squad at LB and playing on the other side increased the injury risk to some degree so it kind of backfired spectacularly. Not sure why everyone thinks he's a LB but at Ajax he played a few matches at RB and mostly played CB. Still a bit traumatized by seeing him go down matchday 1 and really don't want to see him at LB again!

  • Hi Charles #EXTRATIME Lovely content as always I have been listening to all your insights regarding Jesus, no doubt he makes our team stronger when he is fit and playing in his full potential but as you have James have been repeatedly telling that for any player the past injuries are the signs of what to expect for future injuries. Jesus have not been same since his last injury, you see last season as well when he was integrated back into our team it led to dropping of our points and this time as well. There's no point keeping a lavish car in your garage when you know it can breakdown anywhere when you take it for a ride. Would love to know your thoughts about it Abhimit

  • EXTRA TIME: Pradipto here (You have read my comments 3 or 4 times before and pronounced my name differently each time! :D ) About whether to sign a striker in the summer, my take is, Yes, we should! With Eddie almost certainly going out and Kai looking promising, I think we can move Jesus to a permanent winger role (let's be honest, Jesus as striker is not going to work) So we have Kai/New ST/Trossard as ST, Saka/Jesus/Nwaneri? as RW, Martinelli/Trossard/Jesus as LW. And if the new striker is versatile (like Isak), he can be a winger option too. That's a lot of options without having to sign a backup for Saka.

  • #extratime A recent article (Amy Lawerence-Athletic) identifies 8 players based on minutes played and the emerging tactical structure of the team as the core of Arteta’s squad. With the return of Timber that real figure maybe 9. However, Jesus, Zinchenko, Martinelli, Jorginho,Trossard, Partey, Tomi and Ramsdale are all omissions from that list and might be thought of as situational players or as finishers going forward, Some of these non-core players are amongst the highest wage earners at the club. Bearing in mind we are in the process of offering Jorginho a new deal and have recently given Tomi a new deal- if selling our Hale End product neither raises the money or clears enough wages to facilitate our desired incomings which of these players would you contemplate selling? For me it's hard to see past Ramsdale, Partey,Zinchenko, but it might also explain why we'd be prepared to sell Jesus.

  • Not sure an additional speedy winger is essential. Don’t we already have two: Martinelli and Saka? Plus Jesus can play on either wing. Some of his best performances for Man City came on the right wing. What is def needed is a new younger version of Partey (Youssef Fofana?), plus a classic target man #9, either as a back up for Havertz, or to play there if Havertz is moved to the #8 - as may happen in a late game push for a goal. How about Solanke? Couldn’t we tempt Bournemouth with Eddy and Reiss Nelson in a trade?

  • Zinchenko is now 3rd, possibly 4th choice left back with Timber back and Tommy in front of him. Jesus you say his knee seems an ongoing issue, if he can remain fit and back to full fitness, he has the ability and strength to create chances in packed defences. Finishing remains erratic. We will need a big squad, Arteta will make the decision as who goes and who remains, I’m happy with that. I am working Saturday so will miss the game, the senseless murder of Daniel will have shocked everyone. I am sure everyone there will want to pay their respects.

  • Is this the first year in a long time where we will see players actually being sold for a decent price rather than terminating contracts. Would love to see some more of the hale end boys staying but if they aren't being fulled utilised the oppurtunity for clear profit cant be taken lightly. Be interesting to see what players people wouldn't mind being sold & what players people think would improve ths team further. For me personally a striker or right winger would be priority followed by another midfielder.

  • Wouldn't the most logical thing to do is sell Eddie, promote a youngster, and buy a more powerful forward or someone with variation. Keep Jesus because he can dribble in tight areas. Trossard apart, we don't have that aption when a team plays a low block. Otherwise, you rely on Martin Odeegard to pick a surgical ball. On an off day or when he's man marked, it limits the attacking option.

  • Charles: What about selling Jesus and Nketiah. Then Arsenal buys Benjamin Sesko so he and Havertz can both play as a striker. And last, we moves Chido-Obi Martin from the U18s to the first team as our 3. striker. I think it would work.

  • Unless arsenal gets a very good offer for Jesus, I think he should stay. He doesn't have to play and start every game so it should keep him relatively healthy and fit. Plus he's still a good player to come off the bench for the front 3 when they need a different approach. For partey, same thing with Jesus. The only difference is that unless they get a midfielder to come in and start right away, partey can start the "big" games and rest the other games. Zinny should move to the midfield. At this point it is absolutely useless to keep him at LB.

  • Jesus can be used as a back up to Saka. He does not look like the no9 we need. Havertz with his modest ball abilities is looking more useful. I wish Arsenal went bold and signed Harry Kane instead of all those experiments Arteta is trying to to do. The priority this summer is to get a classy center forward and try to trim the inflated squad. Nelson, Rowe, Vierra, El Neny, Soares, Nketiah, Lokonga, Tierney, Tavarez, Patino, Zinchenco, Jorginho can be disposed.

  • Extra time. Charles, hope you're well. Something that the alleged stance on Jesus stance is making apparent is that the evolution Mikel wants to foster at Arsenal is rapid, with him and his staff not only identifying players, but seemingly having targets in terms of their development that they want the players hit. If they do hit them, they become mainstays and if they don't, they are liable to be culled. Who do you think are the players most at risk to be part of the next culling, after Aaron, Eddie, possible Emile, etc. Which players of the current squad do you think have the shortest shelf life from a project/development point of view? Hope you had something delicious for lunch.

  • Extra time: Recently, the question has been asked as to weather we still need to sign a striker following Kai Havertz’s upturn in form upfront. Although I do think we still need to sign a striker, I think it should put us in a position where we can be patient to make sure we sign the right player. There is a lot of talk around who would be the best option for arsenal to sign but that is because there is no glaringly obvious signing that brings us the 20/30 goals a season striker that people think we are missing. I would suggest that (like city did waiting for Haaland and playing false 9s for a couple of seasons) we bide our time to splash significant funds a clear and obvious upgrade on Kai and Jesus, even if this means we sign Isak when it is more likely we can do a deal with Newcastle. What are your thoughts? Harley.

  • Re this Ben White saga - it’s quite laughable. Reminds me of Xhaka’s interview in the players tribune when he quoted Micah Richards. “When it’s Arsenal, everyone wants to lump in.” No mention of Joelinton on Gabriel, no mention of Bowen on Ramsdale last season, or even Vicario on Raya in that same game…it’s all a bunch of nonsense! Just a way to distract the attention away from a pretty horrific PGMOL season.

Bearing in mind that Edu is doing right now his ''We-would-also-like-a-piece-of-Saudi-money'' tour? I personally think this summer will be a huge ''proving a point'' for Edu when it comes to sales. • Extra Time - we all agree we need a winger, and the left wing particularly could be up for grabs for 'starter' in the team, as much as a starter exists at least, could Sancho be the answer? We might be able to get a relatively decent price on him, if Ten Hag stays he can't return there and what Arteta has done for Havertz could really interest him, and we know he has quality.
