FRONTLINE tells the inside story of the U.S. government’s massive and controversial secret surveillance program that began in the wake of September 11 -- and the lengths they went to trying to keep it hidden from the public. (Aired 2014)
This journalism is made possible by viewers like you. Support your local PBS station here: www.pbs.org/donate.
From the investigative team behind FRONTLINE’s award-winning “Money, Power & Wall Street,” comes the definitive history of domestic surveillance in a post-9/11 world. In part one of this two part series, FRONTLINE filmmaker Michael Kirk pieces together the secret political history of “The Program,” which began in the wake of Sept. 11 and continues today - even after the revelations of its existence by Edward Snowden.

The United States I grew up in is dead and gone. Ultimately, the culpability falls with Americans. The average citizen can tell you who won American Idol, the score of last weeks game, and what's trending on Twitter, but can't name any of their constitutional rights, or why protecting them is important.

Democracy is only a word which our government hide mp behind, thungs things they preach, the things they accuses other country of smearing those country yet they themselves do understand secrecy. I personally would rather play a n open hand card then closed, atleast then ill know what my opponent is holding. Democracy was built on transparency, rules of law, human rights, equal rights, freedom of press, etc but ask yourself this does our government truly live up to all those things? Journalists that reports the country secrets end up in jail, end up running for their freedom. Yet and Journalists that report politics of 1 side they somehow become mainstream media. Aka fox news (right wing) cnn (left wing). I can go on for days, of how messed up democracy has become as its being runned by the rich not for us the people. If we was to evan wiretap any government phone calls I garentee we will be in jail for espionage. Only a couple years ago america was complain how China is a servailence country yet look at America seem way more servailence befor China was, in the UK and London a person is constantly on camera the very second they leave their front door.

I've never blamed China for anything, other than making deals with traitors from America which anyone obsessed with money would do. He informed his supervisor and 1 day before his 1 year probation period was up they walked him out of the building and he was fired. His supervisor was promoted and moved out of the department. Any attempts to pursue this after being fired were shut down and went nowhere.

  • CIVIL WAR? I find myself asking as I reflect on my childhood as I realize as an adult that I was failed by my government. I was born in 1990 into the custody of the State of Oregon while my biological mother was in a State Funded rehabilitation center just around the corner from where I live now. There came a breaking point in my mother's life and our relationship when she was refused additional support from the State. It was at this point when I was placed into foster homes based on criteria set forth by standards of the State of Oregon. The parent had to be married and be christian. There was an additional criteria for childern like me who were Native American Indian and that is called ICWA (Indian Child Welfare Act). This act appeared well intended but in practice it was detrimental. This criteria made it to where I could only be formally adopted out to mothers and fathers or families who would qualify under the State Standard but also had to be part of a federally recongnized indian tribe. I was finally placed with a family of whom met a portion of the criteria and of whom contained tribes with historic blood feuds with one another. And that foster family took me away from the State of Oregon and took me to Oklahoma where that family became in violation of the State of Oregon's authority when failing to file annual money reports. The Ottowa County Sheriffs Office failed time and again when they failed to bring my guardians to justice and free me from their hostile control. My guardians were issued warrants out of Pendleton Oregon by the Umatilla County Courthouse but still no justice. I don't believe there is any compensation great enough to compensate me for what happened. But I value all the 18+ years I suffered at the hands of the State to be to the tune of $6B. No justice

  • I lost my job due to this program. The first thing that the government went after were any employees in government facilities, especially those near the Pentagon, that posed any kind of question mark or who behaved in any kind of suspicious way even if the people were obviously harmless. I was working as a contractor at the Patent Office, and some time in 2002 I would sometimes, during my lunch break, search for information related to the Echelon Project -- which was the NSA massive satellite dishes operation posted in areas around the globe that allowed the NSA to spy on phone calls and internet communications. That termination ended my work experience in the federal government. And this program really did not have much to do with security. It was a knee jerk reaction due to the close relation that large corporations, many of which were headquartered in the Twin Towers, have with our government, and the defense industry were just looking for a way to expand their business, which is war, and it was this surveillance system which the powers that be were hoping would find more enemies to go to war with, and if they had to greatly expand the meaning of what constitutes an enemy, then that was not a problem for them. We have seen the enemy, and it is us.

  • Fun fact: Snowden was supposed to travel to Cuba, using russia as a gateway. From cuba he was to proceed onward to South America. In summer 2013, this plan was supposed to take place. But a few things happened. One of which, cuba changed their mind, saying they would not allow Ed to land. Fast forward to 2014, Obama opened up talks with cuba, a starting point for re-opening American travel to the country. By 2015, john kerry was giving a speech in cuba. Cuba diplomacy is known as a milestone of the Obama presidency. But it seems as though it was nothing more than a bargaining chip.

    • The right wing truth movement is a Psy Op. there's a direct link between Scientology, Trump, and the techniques used by the right wing echosphere, who also tie to NXIVM (Elon promoted it) Epstein (Trump's bff for20+ years) and Saville, (who Brand idolised) and the Monarchy who (Shapiro and Piers Morgan defends). Tate dated Peterson's daughter and Elon went to the same Jesuit University as Trump, and Epstein hooked up Elon's brother, just like he did for Trump. Trump's lawyer Alan Dershowitz said he was introduced to Epstein by Lynn de Forrester Rosschild. Scientology is training these people in the tactics of brainwashing, basically what MK Ultra became, and probably run by the CIA, and Opus Dei, which is basically the same thing. Their principle strategy is Gaslighting. Gaslighting, aka Grooming. Accusation in a mirror (AiM), mirror politics, mirror propaganda, mirror image propaganda, is a hate-speech incitement technique where one falsely attributes to one's adversaries the intentions that one has for oneself and/or the actions that one is in the process of enacting. It was used in Rwanda, Guatemala, Brazil, and Burma, each having ties to Mossad. Trump, Barr, Bannon, Cippolone, Gore, Guiliani, Leo, Alito, Thomas, and Barrett are all Opus Dei. Trump trained alongside Epstein and Roger Stone under Roy Cohn, who used kids to blackmail politicians on behalf of Mossad. Cohn trained under Meyer Lansky, who trained under Hoover. Robert Mercer and Rupert Murdoch are both Knights of Malta. Saville, Bezos, Gates, Koch, Rogan, Walsh, Crowder, Kirk, Fuentes, Dore, Knowles, Kulinksi, Ball, Iverson, Icke, Woods, Watson, Cernovich, Abbott, Jones, Robinson, Woods, Pool, Rubin, Peterson, Posobeic, Duke, Molyneux, Yilanopouse, Gionet, Richardson, Tillerson, Greene, Manaforte, Flynn, Ducey, Acosta, Attwood, Stone, Pence, Desantis, Meadows, Trump, Eastman, Black, Kerik, Melania, Barr, Bannon, Hawley, Gingrich, Abrams, Comey, Cuomo, Kerry, Abrams, Gore, Spencer, Blassio, Pompeo, Bolton, McCarthy, Nugent, Cruz, Rubio, Gaetz, Santos, Tucker, Gutfield, O'Reilly, Beck, Scarborough, Devos, Kasich, Mercer, Murdoch, Rosschild, Ingram, Kelly, Lake, Conway, Coulter, Huckabee, McEnany, Hannity, Spicer, Christie, Prager, Maher, Colbert, Corbett, Hayes, Biden, Harris, Fauci, Pelosi, Menendez, Pirro, Manchin, Cooper, Maddow, AOC, Newsom, Uyger, Dawkins, Hitchens, Hancock, Sitchin, Ventura, Morgan, Cowell, Farage, Johnson, May, Merkel, Blair, Cameron, Brown, Blair, Mogg, Benjamin, Trudeau, Putin, Bolsanaro, Stalin, Lenin, Tito, Trotsky, Hitler. All Roman Catholic. Special mentions (adjucants): Dawkins, Hitchens, Harris, Miller, Watters, Greenwad, Blumenthal, Maté, Camp, Brand, Loomer, Shapiro, Thatcher, Bush, Obama, Merkel, Greer, Summers, Silverstein, Adelson. Greenblatt. Wexner. Also Hindu Nationalists Ramaswamy, Tulsi, Haley, Hirsi, DeSouza, Modi etc. Edward Snowden worked for Pentagon Comptroller Dov Zakheim and was bought to us by Glen Greenwald, who now rubs shoulders with Jesuit Agent Provocateurs Tucker Carlson and Joe Rogan, whose mutual friend with Steven Crowder Brian Callen is the founder of Diligence, a spook Contractor to the CIA. Julian Assange helped Roger Stone and the Trump Campaign in 2016, being the first to suggest challenging the outcome if he lost, and asking to be made the Australian ambassador to the US. Margeret Sunbyrne, the head of the Sun Worship Cult he was raised in was also protected by the CIA in the Australian Supreme Court, on grounds of "National Security" Trump paints himself Orange to represent Apollo. Aleister Crowley inspired NXIvM and Manson, and was a master of mind control, his Protege L Ron Hubbard was the founder of Scientology, which uses the same mind control tactics displayed in right wing media. They were also instrumental in Trump's conception as the Moon Child, born on a Super Wolf Blood Moon on June 14 700 days before the founding of Israel, who he gave sovereignty over the Golan heights on its 70th anniversary, and was inaugurated aged 70 years 7 months and 7 days old. June 14 is the birthday of Osiris, Known as the Day of the Pharoah. Scientology uses the same tricks as Religion and Freemasonry, including isolation through strange acts (rituals/hazing) Gaslighting and intimadation, these can also be seen in right wing propaganda. Peterson's hero's journey comes from the transit of the moon through the zodiac, which is why they're called months. Blame the victim: The strategy is to make the aggressor's feelings the goalposts, everything is oriented around their needs and approval; a war of attrition using subjective language and logical fallacies such as incredulity, which amounts to disbelief, and acting as if this belief is something the victim is responsible for. "Look what you made me do" *In the context of child sexual abuse (CSA) the **_gaslighting_** is often used to convince the victim all the abusive behaviours are fine, normal and an expression of “love” (for eg Patriotism, Christianity, Service). It is used to ensure the victim doesn’t speak out about it and doesn’t fight back. It can also be used in concert with other **_grooming_** tactics like fear and isolation. Ultimately the aim is to legitimise a worldview that is detached from reality, and therefore arbitrary. Now they can call evil good and good evil* *>>Trivializing:* *The victim’s feelings are made to feel like they don’t matter, are **_unfounded_** or they are weak for thinking so.* (woke/ lib/ groomer/ unamerican etc) *>>Countering: This is quintessential gaslighting.* *They **_directly counter the memories and perceptions of the victim._* *>>Repetitive Questions: The abusive partner makes the victim doubt what they think or feel by asking the same question multiple times.* by doing so they preemptively assume the role of an authority by virtue of being rude. The shock value is the whole point, it's the politics of Terrorism. *>>Diverting: The abuser diverts the subject and puts the blame into outside circumstances.* *>>No true Scotsman, or appeal to purity* is an informal fallacy in which one attempts to *protect their generalized statement from a falsifying counterexample* by trying to _exclude the counterexample_ improperly. This is the Core of White Supremacist ideology. *"What Others Say" (Appeal to Populism)* The abuser tells the victim what other people "think" about the victim, the abuser and/or the situation on whole. Also known as an appeal to populism, the basis of Authoritarian Communism, and Cults, "if many believe it then it must be true" (whether people actually agree with the position and whether it is true or not). Bolshevism itself means "the Majority" and is no different to Fascist appeals to a "Moral Majority" Patriotism is a form of Authoritarian Communism. Other than direct contradiction and disbelief other strategies for Gaslighting include Begging the Question, and the use of Strawman arguments; refuting a reframed argument *different from the one actually under discussion* while not recognizing or acknowledging the distinction. Through the exercise of overwhelming a subject with countless contradicting premises and subjective terms a game of Pigeon Chess is played to deter criticism and break down a person's defences, until they no longer trust their own feelings, and rely solely on an outside source for direction. This is clearly demonstrated in the Maga cult, and is repeated in the convoluted dogma and magical thinking of Evangelism, New Age Spirituality, Ancient Aliens, and Graham Hancock. Always alluding to a secret to be revealed, but always in vague nebulous terms and undefined benefits of a far away place with no means to verify one way or the other. "Trust me bro" Effectively they all play the same role of an Enlightened Guru with deep understanding of life matters who can solve all your problems. It's likely no coincidence Reagan emptied the mental health services in the US, over half of those in Jail and living on the streets have undiagnosed ADHD. Auyawasca and Psychotropics are also a staple in brainwashing, as is telling the target they've been brainwashed and that the Guru has the cure, right wing propaganda uses this language heavily by flipping the script and arguing they are the victims, that they're the ones being silenced and cancelled, that they oppose child abuse while also defending it, that the deep State is out to get them, when they're the Deep State and always have been. Aleister Crowley was a big advocate of using Psychotropics to brainwash, just like the CIA, Opus Dei and MK Ultra. Brand and Trump both use hand waving and holding them outspread in a "settle" gesture called pacing. They can also stare at an opponent, "asserting dominance" to put the target on the back foot and unsure how to respond. Peterson does this a lot, along with rapid fire speech, and using an insulting or demanding tone. By using these tactics as well as loaded language (Newspeak) and inference (plausible deniability) only to move the goalposts and reframe when challenged. Trump's Mentor Roy Cohn admitted to using kids to blackmail politicians on behalf of israel, and trained under him alongside Epstein and Roger Stone. Trump's Jesuit mentor was Norman Vincent Peale, a 33rd degree Master Freemason. • Propaganda Broadcast System...If you think otherwise then you have been had by years of programming and indoctrination. What, you think the Koch family of gandists are in the business of telling you the truth? You think that the truth gives them ultimate power, control, and multi-many-many-many-billions? Lol, gtf outta here! Everything is a mixture of 99 percent fiction with 1% "fact." It's all about convolution. 'They' make us believe in what is not, so we never actually know what is. This is simply how 'they' do it. Yeah, these liars do give us truth nuggets from time to time, but to what extent are these "truths?" The real truth you will have to dig for and use a thing called common sense. Example: I worked in a career with real chaos, real blood, real reality. Blood properties are, well, I know what they are. All of the events that you see in the mainstream the real properties of blood do not apply as it relates to real physics, real biology, real science. Like blood that is orange in color (instead of black colored) and so very quick drying so that it does not inevitably track when stepped on, or oh yes, blood spatter that does not exist, such as a person being "shot" in the head supposedly point-blank and no blood spatter anywhere. Or a person being shot in the chest 3 times with a high powered rife with high powered ammunition, well, it just does no damage in 'their' events where in real life it ends life immediately? Do some real research. PBS can FO.

You could get to the airport with your ticket and just run onto your plane. I remember when it started to change. One time I got to the airport and the agent asked to look inside my purse. I was shocked. This was around 1978. Things were still pretty low key until the 90's. Now it is like we live in a police state.

    • @@robb1324 I think what was having a very deep impact on him is that he lost everything including his wife and possibly his children. I’m not going to pass judgement on the state of his marriage at the time all of this occurred. I think being falsely accused of acts of treason to and by the government of the country he so loves was more than he could handle. Starting way back when he was an Eagle Scout and continuing through a 43 year career of service to his country with a level of patriotism not seen in many outside of the military came to be his identity as a person. As for his wife asking him “what did you do?” when the FBI busts in with a federal warrant I can attribute that to a way of looking at things that is all to common in today’s America and that is this: if you are being accused of something you are probably guilty. To be of that mindset when the FBI conducts a raid on your home and starts carting away all electronics and books and papers and anything else they feel like taking would be the ultimate piece of evidence against you. At that point any explanation he gave would be falling on deaf ears. Spend your entire life dedicated to your country only to have that country stab you in the heart for something you didn’t do plus your wife of 30+ years not believe you are innocent topped off with massive legal bills and self inflicted guilt over the death of 3,000 people would be enough to break just about anyone. Who knows though maybe he’s just a big bi-polar pansy momma’s boy lol
